No one said Adam lost because he was gay. He lost because people on the whole loved natural, easy-going, humble Kris a lot more. Kris can sing pop, soft rock, country and also plays piano and guitar. All Adam can do is sing rock and wear makeup and theatrical clothes. Adam has a great voice, but there is a certain quality about Kris voice that's reminescent of popular songs from the 1970s-80s. Adam lost solely because Kris was the more popular contestant overall. Kris is more natural, humble, is an instrumentalist and can sing various types of tunes very well. Adam is a rocker who cannot play any instrument. Take away his heavy makeup, dyed hair and flamboyancy and he is very ordinary.

Clay Aiken wasn't openly gay when he lost. And the last winner of Canadian idol was openly gay. Its not a matter of nobody voting for them, its just a matter of statistics. If 1/10 people are gay, then 1/10 idol winners would be gay.

I'm sure quite a few were openly gay. It's just a matter of whether or not they publicized it to the world. The only reason there's a big deal about Adam being gay is because of the combination of its blatant obviousness and his sheer talent.
