    I seem to remember that "Oh Shenandoah" is a shanty, a song of ah... people that work on ships like in the navy. Do you know anything about this songs origin?

    thx

  • I know it as an American Folk song and Folk songs are subject to change so there's lots of versions of it.

  • Yeah, obviously. The version i know is on one of my fathers´ old vinyl discs. My da´s a sailor and in that version, the singers have rumbling bass voices...not much like yours ;-)

    They sing it in kind of two roles. One singer sings the verses and the...chorus sings the refrain, this "roll away, yon rolling waters..." it´s very good too, but you know i love your voice... ;

  • i sort of remember "oh shenandoah" being a folk song sung by pioneers (thus the missouri part) and wishing they could have stayed near the shenandoah river in virginia... you might be thinking about "way down upon the suwannee river"...
