  • ssdhanjal You represent everything thats decent in a human being.Well done for this presentation.I hope some TV producer see's this and broadcats it so many more people can see. You have shown how close muslims and sikhs were before partition and how "politics" screws people up. I am assuming you are a sikh, well I am a muslim, and thank you for this beautiful presentation........

  • Sir, I'm grateful for the kind words & your recognition of my humanist tendency. You will see I'm just an ordinary person who I feel strongly about the oneness of humanity. It is my experience that most people around the world are just nice on a 1-1 basis, once you take them away from whatever flag they stand under (religious, political, ethnic, etc.).

If we remove the fear that comes through standing under one of these flags we can enjoy the richness of all the world's cultures.

  • @ssdhanjal ,oh man,i dont think this could of been said better, thank you...and bless you

  • 5:00 Baba Jee carries on: When I will be gone to Lahore then you come and see my name whenever you miss me.

Interviewer: Is that garden still existing?

Baba Jee: No, that garden is already cleared.

Interviewer: Is there anything left which is linked to him?

Baba Jee: No, I am only the link, his best friend

Interviewer: Villagers should have some sort of monument of him.

Baba Jee: They sold their muddy bricks house and some people used to take the house bricks in the memory of Rafi Saab.

  • Shan, your time and efforts in translating this video are appreciated immensely. I thought, I posted this comment yesterday, but I don't see it. I wish, I could have one of those bricks myself. Allah Hafiz, RP

  • I am glad to read your comments. I wish more and more people should be encouraged to put some efforts to make things easier for the friends who have language barriers. Now more and more people are knowing how serious fan of Rafi Saab you are.

  • Yaar Shan, I just saw this today and I cant beleive it, you did that word to wrod translation in a perfect manner. WOW. I am so dam impressed, I never thought that you will do that in such a detailed way. I am speachless.,so much time and so much effort, Yaar aap nay mujhe lajawaab kar diya hai. Allah Pak aap ko khush Rakhay, aap waqi se yaaroon ke yaar hu. Aap ko buhat sari duayain. Aap ka paristaar

  • Sheikh Saab,

Iss zarah nawazi ka bohat bohat shukria. I did what I could do in a time frame and regretted to see some misspelled words. On my own channel, I could delete and post again but here I had very limited choice, however I still expect that my friends will over look my mistakes.

Your comments have infused some great strength in me to do more and get SHABAASH

Sheikh Saab bass yunhi chehakte rahen, that's is all what Shan wants.

  • 3:45 Baba Jee: He was engaged with his first cousin (from father side) and they also reside in the same village.

4:09 Interviewer: So, you were so attached to Rafi Saab?

Baba Jee: Yes, since he was born, I was the first person, friend with him. Prior to leaving the village, we were playing in mango trees farm which was in two acres of the area. He climbed up the mango tree and I asked him if he was wasting his time? I am not sitting here idle, I am carving my name on the tree stem M. Rafi 1937

  • 2:56 Baba Jee: Director was very kind to him and encouraged him to sing again. He tested his voice and declared that he had the potential to become a great singer. The he recommended him to learn singing professionally. Rafi Saab said, " Okay please teach me singing" , alright I will do something director said. "You have to come to my dad's salon to get his permission for singing" Rafi Saab showed his concerns.

After that Rafi recorded his song.

    Interviewer: What song?

    Baba Jee: I can't recall

  • 2:10 Baba Jee: His father sent him out for hair cut service to someone's house. When he reached to a place where he thought nobody was around there he started singing in high voice. By chance the director of Lahore Radio Station was sitting in his porch for sunshine. He was stunned due to singing voice aand asked to bring that boy singer to him. He approached (Rafi Saab) and he got scared. He pretended as he had done nothing means he was not singing, after all he was just a young boy.

  • 1:30 Interviewer: Do you have the photos of that time( Rafi Saab and your childhood)

Baba Jee: There was no existence of photos at that time, people were simple at that time.

Interviewer: How he got involved in singing?

Baba Jee: He had some sparks for singing but when he went there ( Baba je is referring when Rafi Saab moved to Lahore) his father had a barber shop in Anarkali ( It is a busy shopping bazaar in Lahore)

  • Opening Lines:

Baba Jee: Now you came here what can I do for you?

Interviewer: You have done enough for me since I could see you.

Baba Jee: Now ask the question whatever you want to ask.

Baba Jee: We (Rafi Saab and he) played and spent 13 -14 year together.

Interviewer: So were you accompanied with him when he used to sing around here?

Baba Jee: Yes, he used to sing around here. I mean his voice was under his control.

(Now baba jee talk about the festival which was held for Rafi Saab)

  • Could you please post a translation ?

  • Comment removed

  • Please check this translation word by word. Awesome.

  • thanks for upload, we can all live in peace..

  • Great Stuff!!!!

Many thanks for a unique upload.

  • Rafi Saabs family moved to Lahore well befor Partition. It was much later when as a young aspiring artist that he travelled to Mumbai. His family (Parents, brothers etc..) was already in Lahore at the time of Partition. At the time of partition Rafi saab was in Mumbai and his family in Lahore.

  • GREAT UPLOAD THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is the 4th video clips in five years- i seeing this kind of info-

Dont know who i realy trust this or other video i seen b4-

anyway i dont realy care about this-

but i do care more then anythings of MOHD RAFI voice-

    thanx4upload -

plz dont take wrong meaning about -

  • An analogy-many witnesses 2 a crime give differing stories-an investigator hears all 2 establish generally what happened- then looks 2 answer his own question(who did the crime)

My attitude-collect all evidence (my video & others)-see general thrust - answer your own question(why did you watch the clip)

4 me details are not important- What can I learn 2 make my life & that of others better (do read my writeup)

One thing I do share with you- I 2 have no interest in gossip 4 entertainment

  • what a great video sir, you have done what i have dreamed about. i think you love rafi almost as much as me. i salute you

  • excellent video, shows the unity and love that was shared in the woderful era of Rafi saab thnks so much for posting!

  • An excellent effort for tracking down this rare, information. Extremely pleasing and comforting to observe the Sikh elder talk with pride about his childhood muslim friend. We all go to Amritsar but it takes a special person to go that extra mile in search of information that we are now enjoying in the comfort of our own homes. Shame that a museum has not been built in the village in respect and honour for Rafi Sahib as done for Elvis Presley in Graceland.Perhaps one day! Thanks ssdhanjal

  • well said!

  • What a unique insight into the Great that is Rafi. I applaud this effort, the accompanying tex also makes for a great read. Well done.

  • Thanx 4 your words of encouragement dragingbull. Shukaria!
