i'm in no way criticizing phil's playing, or any aspect of his skill as a guitarist, the guy does things that i can't do in my dreams.

but his tone is exactly the same no matter what guitar he's using. fender, gibson, les paul, tele, doesn't matter. i dunno whether it's a good or bad thing, but it's annoying to me in a weird way.

i'm sorry but i disagree, of course the compression you get on a youtube video can't get you the real tone of the instrument but you can definitely catch differences between the guitars..sorry for my bad english, i'm italian...:)

i like the "dreams" comment a lot so thanks for that but you know what's also annoying? getting your ears checked... which you might want look into. i'm hoping it's just time for new computer speakers. what i love about this vid is that you CAN hear the difference between EVERY guitar. from the amount of gain and tone in each pickup to the resonance and harmonic overtones of the woods used. each guit in this vid has a stamp like a fingerprint.

He probebly just prefers that one particular sound so he tries to set his amp to sound that way no matter what guitar he is using. And I totaly get what you mean because I too want to hear the guitar's individual sound but, all's fair and rock and roll.
