  • I wish I was older so I could have seen him play with my own eyes and possibly met with him face to face... Rest easy, man. Watch over all of us guitarists and musicians alike.

  • incredible

  • This man has the power to inspire beyond anything else, yet strike me in such fear that I want to put down the guitar

  • *watches this, puts guitar away* thats it. no need to play anymore

  • Not just this version, but whenever I hear Shawn play,,,,all I can say,,,Are you kidding me?

  • This is the best version of the best love song I've ever heard

  • @Scratch47 Friend, how about the the High-E, 24th fret bend @ 5.50? I think It must be the climax! =)

  • @Nirmal1991Guitar That note almost makes me cry every time. There's such astonishing tender power in this song just under the surface it reduces me to gibberish.

  • @Scratch47 Totally agreed friend! Nice to see more & more Shawn Lane fans!

  • @Nirmal1991Guitar Dude, Shawn changed the direction of my LIFE.

  • Every single time I hear this Masterpiece while my eyes closed, “The Journey of a gallant Boy (The Hero) who struggles to save his abducted Girlfriend from a Brutal Man/Criminal (The Rival)” automatically appears in front of me! It’s like watching a ‘1 and a Half Hour Movie’ in 7 Gorgeous Minutes! (The Climax of the Solo for me is the Breathtaking Bend @ 5min50sec) :)

  • thank you so much for doing this buddy

  • dude, you just keep posting shawns videos, and im very grateful for that, as many others i believe. just keep doing it, thank you!

  • Awesome song.... is that Lu Kang drumming though?

  • 5:25 to 6:06 is particularly breathtaking in what is a perfect performance. Stunning.

  • I know this is gonna sound kinda creepy, but I really like the way he smiles in this. It doesn't look to me as though he's got a smug elitist smile where he's thinking "look at how fast I can play," it just looks like he's having a great time.

  • @MegaYoshitsune i met him and chatted with him for a while in the late 90s. he put me on the guest list, and i got to play for him afterwards and he flashed a look of 'who's THIS guy?' at the rest of his band, who later clamored for my phone number!. he was really nice, he didn't have to let me into his show for free! i just got the sense from him that he loved music, no egotism present, may he RIP!

  • 5:48-6:00 nuff said

  • I bet it was out of body experience watching shawn lane live. Kinda like buckethead front row is

  • @kGmusicpage dude I got to see Buckethead live last summer! I was kinda in the front row...like only 2 or 3 people in front of me during the whole show. I posted a couple clips on my channel.

  • damn the fuzzyness starts at the best part...probably couldn't handle the awesomeness

  • so how exactly is he doing those various tapping things, it has to be some kind of harmonic but what exactly is he doing?

  • noiseless version of this over here

    watch?v=XJ_6J-Tb5nM&feature=channel_video_title

thanks to whirlingrazors and willie of course

  • None like you.....

  • after i shed some tears when the video ended, i threw my guitars and equipment in the fireplace

  • @donho49 bullshit, plenty of atheist geniuses. Belief/faith is a personal thing, it cannot be proved (by definition). and the bible is absolute bullshit against any rational scientific method.

  • i like the part where shawn was playing the guitar

  • @Carlosgtrsnk

Same. That was by far my favourate part.

  • Did Shawn believe in God?

  • @TangerineGroovin no, because he was god

  • @TangerineGroovin Prob not, most guys of that intellect don't( I would imagine)

  • @Kingding6 who are you to tell did he, or did not believe in God? Are you Shawn?!....I thought so..

  • @ipiZmaj86 I said "probably"....

  • 3 dislikes....Unreal!!

  • I think of the times I didn't get to see him in Memphis as I should have. I missed alot, though I did get to see him once in Germantown, TN at a small place called Dundee's. I sat a mere 15 feet away as he played with a cover band and played songs like , "All Along the Watchtower" (awesome). He was incredible and a nice guy to talk to between sets.

I had also seen him at age 14, win a battle of the bands at Overton Park Shell with his high school band, Savage. The beginning...

  • LOVE!

  • Much respect. Just lovely.

  • when i got lanes first record i was dissapointed but years later i get it what a beautiful piece!!!!

  • Shawn Lane* Sorry! XD

  • shawn lane...... Original Gangster

  • @Staplesz he was a fuckin boss

  • what month of gt is guthrie govan playing this in?

  • super uplifting melody !

  • That clanging noise from the bass drives me nuts!!!! XD

  • What a beautiful and sincere melody.

  • I know VIgier eventually became the guitar brand of choice for Shawn, but I have to say his Charvel in this vid just sings. What incredible tone.

  • 5:26 Wtf I can't even TAP that cleanly, and he's playing that with one hand like it's nothing. :|

  • Real Music, I found it! Thank you :)

  • I give this the award of MOST BEAUTIFUL song ever. The shred is tasteful, the phrasing is blazing amazing, and it tells a story not many people can even BEGIN to tell.

  • Could someone tell me what chords Shawn is using in the intro and chorus?

  • The most complete and excelent guitarplayer ever!

  • I've read a lot of comments over a multitude of Shawn's videos relating/comparing/contesting this man against or to Eric Johnson, and while I'm not really pointing out anyone in particular, nor condemning justifiable critical analysis of players, I think the best explanation for this would be to say that great minds think alike. I hope people would just leave it at that and enjoy :)

  • genius

  • Yes, 10,000 views! you're getting up there shawn!

  • The applause at the end brings tears to my eyes.

  • Sean Rickman is the man. I wish Shawn & Jonas could have done an album with him.

  • I absolutely adore the "simplicity" of this piece. Just so down-to-earth in trying to emulate what sounds good, pure and simple. :)

  • I've watched this video 50 times in the last 2 days

  • WOW!!! I'm embarrassed to say i never picked up on this guy back in the day, he's a monster!!

  • Heart melting song...

    RIP Shawn

  • sounded like eric johnson

so is this guys dead? from what????

  • Freaking fantastic! Thanks for sharing this! :) RIP Shawn Lane.. the pain U must have had to endure from a lifelong illness, only to still be able to move those fingers like that and give us that heavenly sound...priceless!!

  • Hands down, my favourite version of Get You Back. I wonder on what level he would be now if he were still with us.

Cheers for all the videos mate. Because of you, millions have access to the works of this true genius. He would be grateful for that!

  • I second what Justasssu said: Thank you so very much for posting these videos of Shawn. I had the privelege of being a close friend of his for about 23 years. I'll never forget when he passed away on September 26, 2003...one of the sadest days of my life. There will never be a kinder soul or another musican like Shawn. He was one of a kind.

  • 1:30 one of my favourite riffs ever, but on this version added tapped harmonics!!!! genius

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, i just have to thank you for putting so much work and effort into this.

I know it must take ages to do your magic and upload these.

    Thank you so much!

  • @Justasssu Thanks so much, that really means the world to me!! :)

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos Well then ditto for me-this is soul food I can't get anywhere else, and I really appreciate it-obviously a labor of love, and I feel they document inspired performances from one of the most important guitar geniuses there are. As such, they are truly a precious cultural artifact.

  • 6:17 = best moment in the history of music

  • this is just epic, wish I really got to experience Shawn alive but maybe I should just have been born 4 years earlier. This man is a miracle!

  • Shawn was really a genius, and just left us too young.

  • tremendous talent!!! we miss you Shawn

  • Hate to say it but the sounds of his solos remind me of the endless flurry of notes that KENNY G produces with his SAX.

Think about it.. 5:35 to about 5:45... those 10 seconds are Very sax-like.

    /my 2¢

  • BTW, I'm NOT saying sounding like Kenny G, but on guitar, is a bad thing, at all. Shawn was amazingly talented.

    RIP

  • Thank you. :)

  • some of his riffs and tone remind me a lot of eric johnson.

  • whereas his fingerstyle remids you of michael romeo :P

  • @Bitziucci other way round i would say...

  • i know ;)

  • Wow!! the licks at 5:26 sound like one of the steve vai solos..... I KNOW WHERE VAI COPIED IT FROM.

  • Which solo out of curiosity?.... i'd like to check it out. :-)

  • Steve vai solo g3 1996. Listen around the tapping part. its similar to the licks around 5:36 in this video

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos Not really sure, but perhaps hes referring to vai's lydian tapping licks, such as the G3 solo. Honestly i think they dont have much in common besides the blur of notes. Both players have very unique styles

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos

sounds like the slolo from lotus feet by steve vai haha

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos

    that 5:26 part lol

  • @TheWhocares233

I have all Vai albums but i don't hear it's like him.

  • @stormzaknafein i heard a vai lick form a live solo it sounded alot like it but i don't actually think he copied it i was just kidding.

  • R.I.P. Shawn Lane:( You was one hell of a musician:) Man, it feels so unfair that you had left us so early:( We miss you Shawn...

  • absolutley amazing best part 0:00 to 7:16

  • That was incredible, Plus at 5:26, he kind of does the lick from the end of get you back on the early version of powers of ten.

He played so well he turned the crowd into an angry mob at the end.

  • Just staggering - there really were no limits to how good Shawn was because every time I hear a "best" version there's another in the pipeline that eclipses that previous one :)

  • Best version of this song by far, that lick at 3:34 gave me goosebumps

  • This IS a ridiculously awesome version...... however... :-D .... my fave version is still the one from "Rockefellers - 29th Feb 1993" (shame it doesn't seem to exist as video), followed by the version from the "New Daisy Theatre - 19th Nov 1992".... which i just found out/realised yesterday that gig actually does exist in 'soundboard' form.

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos

Hey, the lick he plays at 6:06 in this video is the same lick that he plays in this video:

    /watch?v=lxoYfU0t6w8&feature=related at 3:15

I think it sounds really awesome and I wonder if you know any tabs for that lick.

BTW, nice work for your collection!

  • @Morenumbers123456789 Seems to be a 2 note per string lick, played ridiculously fast. Basic pentatonic scale by the looks of it.

  • @Morenumbers123456789 Seems to be a 2 note per string lick, played ridiculously fast. Basic pentatonic scale by the looks of it. Oops sorry also its played in descending 5's i THINK. i could be wrong

  • @Shmucko21

Ok, I'm about to read a lesson about "the circle of fifths". But right now I don't understand it, could you give me a simple explanation? Or should I read the lesson instead? Thanks anyways!

  • @Morenumbers123456789 I don't think the lick has to do with the circle of fifths persay, but instead a PATTERN of 5's. Instead of descending with 2 notes per string in groupings of 6, he is descending in groupings of 5. But remember he is returning to the previous string once the grouping is done. So it would be like E B G(6) B G D(6) G D A(6) D A E(6). but in the case of 5's its just eliminating the last note of the group and instead returning to the previous string. Its a weird feel

  • @Shmucko21

Ah, I understand it a bit more now. But I managed to download this clip, slow it down(very much!) and tab it note by note. But thanks for the info anyway!

  • Amazing

One of my favourite songs from him, also one of the best versions I've heard, bu they're all so great!

  • Best ever on this planet man! Shawn just killes everyone so bad,,, God rest his soul. WE LOVE YOU SHAWN!

    Fans forever, the Phillips family

  • omfg!

  • Couldn't say it better myself.

And I feel like an prick for pointing this out, but there's some bizarre bend in the pitch at around 1.56.

  • Yeah, that's because i replaced the original audio that came with the video, with an all round better quality sounding audio from the soundboard of this gig, which will have been passed around on cassette at some point (before it was transferred to cd), so that's where that brief 'warble' sound will have come from.

  • Great job, this is important shit. Govan,Gilbert and Howe effin know it.

  • Shawn was absolutely on fire this night.

  • GODDDD. just amazinggg def the best version of this song ive ever heard. the pentatonics were fuckin mind blowing and i love the jazzy scale runs and stuff and the whole video and the whole song. best thing ever. ya dig

  • Amazing...

    Thx, It's my favorite song

  • awesome, this song will always be a favorite of mine

    5 stars man

  • You can't run the audio through a program that removes certain frequencies?

  • thank you very much for having this beautiful song represented with such better quality tones thankyou for taking the time to make one of my favourite videos even more of a favourite.

  • i have seen this video 100's of times and everytime i see it posted...I feel compelled to watch it...everytime....AA+++

  • I've watched this one hundreds of times too, absolutely love it!.... but now i finally get to watch it without the muffled sound that the usual video version has...... try comparing this new version i've dubbed, to the old version. ;-)

  • damn that screechy sound, finally got myself a jackson soloist, so will be posting a new "get you back" cover soon :D

  • get you back is such a great song, although i'd say that vid of shawn playing abstract logic in atlanta is probably my favorite.

  • such an amazing composer, musican, and player RIP thanks for these great videos!
