is there a procedure to act in this scenario???? not if your buddy cuts your line in a pool lol.... say im 90' and in a cave, meaning i need to make my way out slowly and smoothly.... kink the hose a possibility ?? what about the regulator hose ??? yes i have a pony.... just wandering if its possible to fix for the moment.... i cant afford to chop up gear lol wish i could but cant..... thanks
yes JOIO84 but there are good dive stories and videos on the net also. Try the myscubastory site. Type myscubastory into google and its the first one .. enjoy
seagirl3 there is also another site called myscubastory that has diving stories like accidents shark encounters etc. type myscubastory into google and its first one i think.. bye
That is some funny stuff!!! I was a Clearance Diver with the Canadian Navy, and have blown a few hp disks, and a few hoses. Gets loud, but never really had an issue. Hope your underwater staff had fun making that. Stay safe. Cheers, B.
i would have no clue cuz im not a diver and know nothin bout this but couldnt u swim behind him and simply turn the valve off?..... i mean in my head it will stop the oxygen right?
Try that at 100ft or more!!!!! Also, I agree with everyone throat+knife??? I wish my CD would let us play like that. You all have entirely way to much time on your hands lol. At least you did it in a pool!
I really enjoyed that, would've been good too though if you'd done the LP cut behind the back of one of your instuctors while he was conducting the first of the confined water training parts of an OW course. Would pay quids to see the looks on the students faces if ypu did. Do UK do bolt cutters too?
2 stage regs don;t work like that. 1st stage reduces pressure to an intermediate pressure - usually 10-11 bar. 2nd stage then reduces this to ambient pressure. Therefore the air escapes from a blown hose at the intermediate pressure regardless of your actual depth. It is also why you need higher performance regulators for deep diving as most regulators will not work at depths greater than 100m (10 bar)
I hope I know how 2stage regs work, since I've been servicing my own for years now ;-)
I think you are right if you speak about 'balanced first stages' since these always adlust the intermediate pressure to be 10/11 bar above ambient pressure. But speaking about the good old 'not balanced first stages' I stick to my believe that the ambient pressure will work as a 'brake' on the escaping air
Not 100% sure though, so please explain again if I am missing an important point.
No, the tank didn't freeze - you will get some chilling of the first stage - and if in cold water, that could freeze the reg - but we were in an 85 degree pool. And yea... when we cut that hose - it was pretty darn loud - actually scared the heck out of us! But not real ear pain... but it was loud!
Excellent sooo funny....really loved how you put it all together and very, very informative.... will pass it on to my instructor partner so he can use it with his students. Thanks heaps for being so creative guys :-)
The old vintage double hose stuff was kind of a scam... the air over the left shoulder is actually the exhaust - so they'd always cut that in the movies... the guy still gets air - just his exhausted air comes out the hose instead of going back to the reg behind his head.

That's still enough time to make a safe ascent... even from 30m/100ft, though no safety stop of course.

in a real situation yeah you take your budy safety regulator and then he goes to switch off your tank if you are not able to do it yourself
doditz69 2 years ago
Yes, but you can simply reach behind you and turn it back on again.

Actually at 100 feet, it is virtually no different in time... Less than 5 second difference.

2 minutes at the bottom of a pool. Think how little time for reaction u would have at 30 meters...makes you think doesnt it?
ziolkho 3 years ago 5
...think again Ziolkho....
Pushing air out the hose against 1.3 bar ambient pressure, or pushing against 4 bar...... what you think will go faster...?
Nevertheless beter not try this at 30 mtrs... ;-))
WillemIIde2 3 years ago
would prob be the same time.. with 4 bar @ 30 msw, pressing on the balance spring in your first stage

Ha ha nice vid!
TIP:
Instead of cool looking Recreational Knives, use a propper dive knife such as a Green River knife. Im not having a dig, just a hint.
Great Vid Guy's, maybe you should do one about A 1ST stage failing :)
