Everyone who would take Riplinger's position, I challenge you to pick up a book on Bibliology, and learn what the field of Biblical Textual Studies is really about. I believed her views until I discovered the real science that is behind the making of a new modern translation. There are committees who spend hours poring over one verse, trying to find out if it is the most accurate representation of God's word with all the manuscripts that are available to us. Do some research.

Hence, God speaking to Abraham as an individual: "Get thee out of thy country..." (Genesis 12:1). Joshua speaking to the Israelites as a group: "...choose you this day whom ye will serve..." (Joshua 24:15). When I learned this as a teenager, it revolutionized my Bible reading!

The KJV is from the Textus Receptus, of which not all manuscripts were the original Greek. Some manuscripts were from Catholic Latin Bible, the Latin Vulgate.

Translate it literally into English: "to have the cockroach". To translate it accurately into English: "I feel sad/depressed".

In Italian, the expression "per mangiare un corvo" means nothing because the Italians say "ingollare un rospo" which mens "to swallow a toad". So when reading the Bible, one must accept the entire text , not just one verse alone. Taking a single verse out of context is how cults come about.

The misunderstanding lies in the word "yet" being limited to only one of its original meanings in our modern English. Hence, it's easy to imagine something sinister in the changing of the passage; however, it's just expressing the same sentiment in language that is more easily understood. If you compare both translations, the context is the same.

Testament manuscripts. 1). The Textus Receptus which means the Received Text, 2) the Vaticanus, a manuscript found in the Vatican, and 3) Sinaiticus, a manuscript found in St. Catherine's monastery on Mount Sinai.

Many Bible scholars have believed that the Vaticanus and Sinaiticus are incomplete or somewhat suspect in accuracy. In fact, the Sinaiticus was found in a trash receptacle, which should say something about how the scribes felt about its accuracy! I encourage you to study this in depth. You can watch this series and Pro. Walter J. Veith also does a lecture on this subject. Kent Hovind has a short video you can find at the end of this series.
