I am enjoying listening to this song. Never heard her sing before. My 4 yr old grandson is visiting and says it sounds like me singing. What a compliment!
The most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard...I remember it from many years ago, but never knew the name of the piece. I was watching an old movie last night and was so suprised to hear this piece sung.
@critchley3819 The soloist is Miss Jan Clayton, who played the original mom in the "Lassie" tv show. Lois Lane was originally played by Miss Noel Neill (who bore a striking resemblance to Miss Clayton), in the Superman tv series. She was replaced by Miss Phyllis Coates, who finished out the rest of the show. You're absolutely right about Betsy Blair (2:48) starring in "Marty". One of the greatest cameos in movie history- IMHO of course.
@critchley3819 This is Jan Clayton critchley3819 -- mother on the original 1950's Lassie (Jeff's Collie) TV-show that featured George Cleveland as gramps and Tommy Rettig. The women of Superman you are thinking of are either Phyliss Coates or Noel Neill. I will admit, Jan Clayton and those two women do look similar. And yes, that is Gene Kelly's beautiful intense looking wife Betsy Blair from Marty. They called her plain, but I always thought Betsy had a special beauty.
Very moving, and beautifully sung by lovely Jan Clayton. She was the original "Julie Jordan," in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Broadway smash, "Carousel!" Her "If I Loved You," with handsome John Raitt, is just beautiful. Thanks so much for posting!
northjerseydan1, Thanks so very much for posting this, I just got through watching it, and this song always brings back very good memories for me. Jan did a wonderful job didn't she? Thanks.
One of the classic books of the world!

A rarely seen but outstanding film. The looks of sadness and desperation on the faces of the mental patients is quite moving.

they play this at the Vroom building in Raway State prison when I was there.

The movie that improved mental health care in the United States. Apparently, films had been used to influence almost from inception.
