This sing is hard to listen to. I think of the day my mom and I sat in the car listening to this and my mother just became so overwhelmed with grief that she cried like a baby. I had never seen her so vulnerable. Beautiful voice, touching song. No one can/could/will ever do what she could do. 32 years later we still miss her.
In the R&B Olympics.Representing the U.S in the Female Soloist Competition. This is my starting 5 line up (NIAPO).1.Ms.Minnie Ripperton 2.Ms.Deniece Williams 3.Ms.Patti Labelle 4.Ms.Stephanie Mills 5. Ms.Aretha Franklin.
Thanks so very much for posting this. Please let it be sooner than later that you post more unpublished footage of this beautiful songbird. She is why I have so much appreciation for true and raw talent. I will check back often until more is posted on M.R. I can still remember being in Florida the day it was announced that she had just passed. I have always followed her music and looking forward to any new footage that has not been seen.
Firstly, I've only just realised that Minnie Ripperton is Maya Rudolph's mother and secondly, that Minnie died of breast cancer just under two months after recording this video, when Maya was 6 years old. Lastly, when Minnie was singing Lovin' You, right at the very end you can hear her singing Maya Maya Maya Maya, since it was a lullably for her daughter.
Loved her on first song; so crazy about her I begged a neighbor to give me her album he had in his collection =) Safe to say the first album I ever owned and played it nonstop on this cheap record player, but it was fun and got a lot of enjoyment from her music. Love you, Minnie Riperton truly you are missed...
i love this song and love this lady, R.I.P. miss minnie, gods perfect angel.we will never 4-get you. happy early birthday (11-8-2011) and this video shows just how beautiful minnie is, was, and will always be. 11-4-11.
She looked so healthy and vibrant, you'd never know her flame was to be extinguished just 6 short weeks later. :-( I have never, ever forgotten this woman and her music. Love it every bit as much 32 years later as I did that day.
What can I say? Minnie Riperton was just breathtaking. It is hard to believe that she would be gone in the next month. I cry, too, every time I hear her music. She is, and will always be, missed so much. God bless you, Minnie. I love you.
Wow!! True singing!! They don't make em like that anymore. Real singers could take a simple song with simple lyrics and make them classics. Miss this kind of music....
Minnie died less than 2 months after this was recorded. How hard this must have been for her to sing, some of the lyrics must have really been personal. and you can really feel the emotions. Love you Minnie- you were and are like no other!
this is PRICELESS. I am in tears as I write this. I know that she felt every word of this song, it is in her voice in her eyes and her gestures. I always said that she song this one from the utmost part of her heart cause she knew she was dying. thanks for shapring this. She was truly a remamrkable woman and sitting there singing her heart out proves that. If the woman artist of today had an inkling of her style and class, many of our young girls would be better off. I am forever a fan.
@10Dec1971 Hi how are you? I was feeling the same thing, and I started to cry with her. This took a lot of strength for her to do, I'm sure. her voice is effortless, while others scream and holla and veins be popping out, she just let it flow with ease...man what a voice. what a woman...what a gift! Take care.
@arlenerogerswilhite I don't know how she got through this either. Makes me really sad when she says "I Don't Want To Go" and "Save Me". She had a beautiful voice. Much better than ANYONE out there today.
Fantastic tribute, you possess a treasure. I was brought to tears when I heard news of her passing on the radio driving home from work. Take a little Trip played on the radio in LA, and I kept buggin the "Record Store" in W. LA when it was going to be released, yes a Perfect Angel. How appropriate. Then bought her first, In My Garden. Keep on posting, and Thank you.
I am so happy to see this. It took me back to a good time. I am so thankful to you. We are so blessed to see and hear her. I was in shock, when she passed. It was if I had loss someone close to me, because she touched us.
@tutunett1 I feel you. When this song came out, I was only 4 years old, but can still remember my parents playing this song. This video really touches you because you could see the emotion and pain in her voice and in her expression. If you listen to the words, you could tell she was talking about her death. I am fortunate enough to have been able to grow op on her music and be able to have the ability to appreciate a legendary artist like Minnie.
@ko9live I am glad you were able to be exposed to this type of music and her specifically. I love this video. Her Husband really lvoed her soo much. God knew she would need a good man in her life to go through what she had to in the business and her illness.
i have been minnie's no.1 fan since i was 15 years old, i love this beautiful & special lady, i miss her, but as long as i can still see her video's and hear her music minnie will always be with us, R.I.P. miss minnie your light will always shine bright, and yes you r god's perfect angel always, thank you for posting this beautiful video of a perfect angel. 2-16-11
@LuvNU75 Awesome that you have a channel dedicated to this legendary talented lady! I was just a young teen when she passed away, but she insipred me to keep trying for those high notes. What a beautiful woman she was. I miss her terribly, thankfully for folks like you keeping her spirit alive and her memory preserved. God bless!
I am waiting for you to post more. I do not believe anyone is such a dedicated fan as I. I know there are others, but I absolutely love all of Minnie's songs, and I have been following her music since '79. Thanks for posting and I will keep checking for more post.
This is a wonderful clip. She looks as beautiful as ever. It's hard to believe that she would pass away less that two months later. What a tragic loss to us all.
Holy smoke! I knew there was a video for this long ago. This was before they were called videos. I remember seeing this in a commercial for a record promotion.
Minnie Riperton - my favorite female artist. She was a true song bird with an extraordinary voice range of 5 octave that was rare. "Memory Lane" was recorded on 25 May 1979. Sadly to say during the recording of this song & album, she knew she was dying. Listen to the lyrics of this song especially at the end. Minnie passed away on 12 July 1979. I was very grateful to be allowed to attend the grave side service @ Westwood Village Memorial Park in LA the following Sunday. Loved Minnie! R.I.P.
This is awesome. I use Minnie and her family as a case study in the undergrad theory classes I teach and they love her. Do you have any footage of interviews? There's not much to be found of her being interviewed.
Wherever did you find this?!?!?!........I just went back down memory lane....it's amazing that so many decades later a song can evoke so many happy memories and make you feel all good...(I say..as I'm using a hairbrush for a mike in the mirror!). The mold was broken with Minnie.
@TheDollDiva-I totally agree with you! Music of the 70's always has a tendency to do that. That's why my husband and I still listens to it very often. The younger generations in our family loves it. They always inquire about what artist wrote, arranged, and performed the songs and the status of where we were in life when the record was released. We have to give them the entire time of the events of what was happening in the world during that time. I absolutely love this video. Thanks a million.
It is my pleasure. The video came in a case with the record exec's card in it. There was also a play list with the dates of recording on it. Take care.
@LuvNU75 i didn't know a video even existed!! This song and Lover and Friend and Light My fire are the best tracks from MINNIE,her last studio album in 1979.What a great and very talented singer/entertainer gone way before her time!!!! Sorry,Mariah Carey ain't got nothing on her!!!!
just days before her death! damn cancer!!
