  • thanks jim this really helped me out

  • jimscee, Thank you so much for your time and considerations for other truck drivers. I learned very important part for backing up from you, particularly on the angles.

  • Great vids!

  • More great info. Thanks.

  • Thank you so much Sir!

  • Thanks for this video..I am getting ready to watch the third part and hope to do better in school at backing tomorrow. Take care.

  • May I be honest? I have been driving a big truck for over ten years......nothing compared to some drivers, but everything compared to the novice! This video is very informing and very accurate, watch it a couple times and you may receive the initial seed for backing up a tractor trailer. But, after you receive the seed, you need to achieve the experience!

  • Thanks

  • I have a quick question, how is it that you can start your truck so smoothly, do you alternate from the clutch to the gas pedal, because every time I go in reverse or from 1st gear there is a jolt when I release the clutch and it makes reversing a lot more difficult. I'm currently being taught by my dad and I don't like to embarrass myself when I do this and he does not have what a teacher needs to be good, patience

  • @maggotsretards Try not touching the gas pedal. Let up slowly on the clutch and once the clutch is all the way up and the truck starts moving then give it the gas.

  • Thanks for the advice Jim,im probably starting a new job in the oilfields in northern canada soon, driving different kinds of trucks than im used to.thanks again

  • Jim ,ive been driving single axle tractor trailers for awhile now,is there much of a difference involved in backing up a single compared to a double?if any what are they? thanks

  • @pistolpetevan Hi Pete. I started out on a single axle for a few years. Not too much difference. Depending on how you're set up, when you back up you may need to cut the steering wheel a little sooner or turn it a little sharper than you're used to. You'll get used to it pretty quickly.

  • jim, I just passed my class A cdl road test today, I want to thank you because I learned a lot about backing a trailer from watching your videos.

  • @whelennut Good Job!

  • This video provides a lot of good information. Being a mechanic from Old Dominion, I have to work on trailers all of the time. The biggest I have attempted, and have backed in successfully are forty footers. This video, along with with the invaluable training I was fortunate to receive by Big Dominic, 5146, helped me a lot. Love ya Driver! I got a nice big Cuban for ya!

  • Great video

  • The best way to back up is to turn your wheel with the trailer. If your trailer turns to the left, turn the wheels facing the left. The same way if your trailer is turning right, turn your wheels to the right to straighten your trailer out.

  • @elnenericodepr that's correct. but the real trouble begins when your trailer is straightened out alright - BUT - you find that it is going in the wrong direction (together with the cab) :) that's where i always get stuck :(

  • Thank You Sooo Much For The Videos Jim! I'm Learning Alot and Can't Wait To Ace my Road Test on the 1st Try Due To Your Great Videos Thanks alot

  • Thank you!

  • excellent video tutorial on backing up

  • Thanks ! Ive been driving for years and am self taught but having a formula willl help me imensely in doing my job. Ive never had to have anyone back in for me but sometimes it hasnt ben retty ,fast or efficient!

  • i dont drive truck but i have so much respect for the people that do enjoyed all of your videos

  • I just know started to drive on my classes, problem is Im left handed, my trailer seems to pull away from me. Im supposed to turn left to make a correction I turn right. Any tip

  • @subicbay350 I'll have to try using my left hand on the wheel to see what you're going through. Have you watched the rest of the videos on my channel?

  • @subicbay350 Always turn the wheel toward the mirror that the trailer is in to correct it. Ex. if your trailer needs to be straightened out, and it's in your RIGHT mirror, turn the wheel to the LEFT.

  • @seansuth you mean turn the wheel to the RIGHT. (assuming you are going backwards, of course)

  • @relfexreaction Haha! What kind of acid was I on THAT day?! Yeah

  • Comment removed

  • I just started driving and im still confused on knowing when to turn my steers to the right to start backing in please help me to understand more.

  • depends how far away you are from entrance or dock. If its on your left and youre far away, turn wheel slightly to right, back up until tractor and trailer are at an angle that looks like it will follow the curve line to the target, then turn wheel to left to hold that angle as you back up. If you're close to dock or entrance you have to turn sharper to follow the curve. Many situations are different. You cant always pull up at the same distance and angle to a dock or entrance

  • wonderful video, you make it so easy to understand. People wil be better drivers because of you thanks.

  • excellent, thank you so much.

  • Awesome video. Great teacher. Thx a bunch!!!

  • Thanks for the very helpful video. I will be renting a small trailer to pull with my minivan, and although much smaller then what you're dealing with, the concepts are still the same. I really appreciate the time you've put into these - they've helped alleviate some of my anxiety of how I'm going to back this trailer into my driveway ;-)

  • very helpful. Best I have seen yet.

    Thanks
