That is the same guitar Jeff Lynne is playing in the video for Showdown. Marc played guitar on ELO's On the third day album also, playing guitar on Ma ma ma Belle.
I like how the song is called Buick and they don't sell any Buicks in Britain and they never did. They only sell Buicks in the US and possibly Canada.
@QueenReigns1 Sorry for the confusion. I spelled out Wright's 'Evie' release '1974', especially to indicate that chronologically Bolan's Buick Mackane precedes it. I have recently listened to all Bolan's available online music and am totally amazed at his versatility and originality. Recentily I pondered how many other super talents actually had 'borrowed' from Bolan/T.Rex. On youtube I hinted that Mungo Jerry's "Lady Rose" may have been influenced by Marc Bolan's Deborah.
patsxskip What a guy! used to skip school to listen to him and my mate can play the lot "Do you like my Spaceball Boots Marc?" a young lad from next door came and asked as he bounced around the room and Marc wrote "Spaceball Ricochet" brilliant
My British boyfriend brought this album back from England when I was just 15 and we used to make love to it - what memories - I was his Buick MacKane and his his Mystic Lady too! Just listening brings it all back...
Guns and roses sucks balls. Half the songs I listen to here have people saying how great the dicks n assholes version of the song is or that they wrote it or Guns and roses were very dark and artistic. News flash to all the g'n'r fans, I think everything of the spaghetti incident were covers. I don't care if you think they wrote live and let die most of the songs on there are 20 years old theres no way they could have wrote them! Do some research!
The Slider album from 1972, is possibly the best T.Rex record. It contains classic songs like, Metal Guru, Telegram Sam, Buick Mackane, Ballrooms of Mars, and Mainman (a personal fave of mine). Another fantastic T.Rex album is Electric Warrior, released in 1971, which includes Get it on (Bang a Gong). Check it out!!!
@scotsmaninusa Hi there. Buick Mackane is an album track from The Slider released circa May '72. in the UK. The album may have been released in the USA at the same time or just after. It wasn't a single for T.Rex (so not a hit in that respect). Buick MacKane was filmed along with Children Of The Revolution for USA promo purposes. Time line would seem to be correct. Late '72, early '73.
@scotsmaninusa Sorry I misunderstood what you meant. Indeed Get It On was already a hit in the states. The promotional film of Buick MacKane and Children Of The Revolution were made to help consiladate that sucess. At that time T.Rex were only sucessful in certain areas of the states.
@scotsmaninusa Does that mean your gonna eat a lot of burgers, chilli dogs and french fries with mayo and double cheese and become a fat bastard... coz your "stateside."
Slash has stated in several interviews that he was a huge T. Rex fan, and cites Marc Bolan as an influence. He wore the top hat as a "nod" to Marc Bolan!
@jujuchrist Dude people are idiots. Let em have it. I actually named a child after this song...Marcs song. Screw the ignonorance you find running rampant.
That is amazing as Slash would have been about 8 at the time this was recorded and Axel Rose 11 - Marc must have been one of their first fans................indeed! This was Marc in his Zep Rex fase. Great song, great live version, great guitarist, great songwriter - Just GREAT!
This was shot at the same time as CHILDREN OF THE REVOLOUTION on the same set ,it was never meant for commercial release as the track never made it as a single at the time , execs may have felt it was worth shooting for the american market as it was a bit more rockier than his pop releases ?
this was one of the first songs i learned to play in my teens... on my very red electric guitar... and this is the original version right here. wonderful.
Forget GlamRock. T.Rex helped set the stage for heavy metal and punk. Check out the bands that have covered Bolan's music, like 20th Century Boy and Buick MacKane.
What an awesome SMILE at the end... love it!
