im 13 and my parents got told i was allergic to peanuts, almonds and hazelnuts when i one. It sometimes can be really scary when you think about it but you learn to adjust, just make sure you check labels and don't eat any think you are unsure about. also make sure you always have epi-pens with you.
i hate my allergy cuzz when ever i go to a party, i can't eat the food unless either myself or my mom or dad ask the host. I hate it! at school, i have the choice to sit at peanut free table all by myself. But obviously i chose to sit with all my friends and to sit at the end of the table. I dont even go to baseball games any more, cuzz im soo scared im gonna have an allergic reaction to all the peanut shells laying on the ground! ughh
This explains the problems we had at my teenager's softball games with little Eli just over a year old and all the sunflower seed shells and so on lying on the warm summer ground.
But now we are planning on how to prepare for games this season by bringing something else for Eli.
I guess the school in my town doesn't offer pb & jelly sandwiches anymore. Lots of things are tough to come up with food with him-I pray for you and Eli that some things will be outgrown someday.
im a 13 year old girl, and im allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and basically all nuts. I figured out i was allergic when my grandma gave me a pb and j sandwich when my family was on vacation in Toronto, Canada. I instantly had a reaction and we had to travel on a boat and a ambulance to get to the nearest hospital. I've never had a reaction since.
I'm allergic to cows milk, goats milk, gluten, safflower, tomato, cheese, brewers yeast, bakers yeast, sesame, clam, oyster, scallops, cashews every type of vinegar except for apple cider vinegar and some foreign made grains. I have a condition where I can become allergic to anything at any time so there is also something else I'm allergic to but we haven't figured out what it is yet. I'm suspecting rice but need another IGG test to know for sure. The more you learn the easier it gets. =)
I'm allergic to Gluten, Dairy, grapes, kiwi fruit, soy, beans, glucose stuff (basically no candy), the stuff they use to sterilise needles... and some others...
This is awesome, I am on a facebook group of parents of kids with peanut allergies and someone posted a link to this video. It is impossible for others to understand unless they live with t his daily. The fear of sending your child to school, to a playmates house, ect, is overwhelming, you want your child to lead a 'normal' life, but you also want to do all you can to protect them.
@EAHRMAN Ugh! Just confirmed less than a week ago my 19 month old is allergic to Peanuts, Beef, Chicken, Turkey, Pork and Eggs.
This is scaring me real good. I'm going to do all I can to get Eli's community around him to be educated and hopefully aware of how serious this really is. Waiting out a reaction that impairs his breathing for an hour or 2 is not really an option anymore now that we know why... kind of anyhow.
@WatsonVA poor thing what is your poor baby going to eat. Hopefully he/she will grow out of it. What can you use for protein source? I am allergic to Soy, Pecans and Walnuts, but was diagnosed when I was in my late teens. I go into severe asthma, along with swollen tongue, tightness in throat and hives. But you learn to cope and adjust, it's a life style change. I wish the best to your little one.
@kardancer1 If it wasn't for hubby he'd only eat cereal and tuna. Our grocery bill has almost tripled... I can't believe he can't have so many things and then sunflower... One spread we have used is an almond cocoa butter that my mom buys, but I think it's like $5 or more for a small container of it. Not a real good substitute for Pbutter when big brother who's almost 5 requests the chocolate butter on toast all the time - ROFL!
the look the kid gives when he said" we were supposed to go to zoo but we went to the hospital" is heartbreaking..He realizes how careful he must be and how difficult it can be to live with food allergies. You must always be aware of your allergy during play, movies, etc. The only relaxing safe place is home thanks to these wonderfully diligent parents.
