  • you take really great pictures. I hope to reach your level one of these days :P At the moment I'm using dobsonian 4.5 without any goto system for tracking. my next upgrade will either be a reflector or dob with goto. Do you have any recommendations.

    thanks

  • @chargr383

    Thanks for liking my images.

Skywatcher now make a fantastic range of Dobsonians with GoTo and tracking. That way you have the great aspects of a Dobsonian plus the advantage of GoTo!

A friend of mine has the 12" model and it is fantastic. And accurate.

They aren't good enough for Long Exposure imaging of Deep Sky Objects though. For that you will need a good solid mount like a HEQ5 or EQ6 as a bare minimum. Then a scope like an ED80 as a minimum.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hey, I was having a bit of a browse and came this! Great stuff there Kensun!! Cheers Danielsun.

  • Very cool! I got some good ideas here for making my next video :)

  • each video your pictures get better!

  • @SaturnAndItsRings

Thanks. I don't do much in the way of Photographic imaging now. I have moved on to doing 'Live' Video astrophotography.

I now have a special camera I place in my telescope and I show everyone the night sky via the internet, and it is interactive. It is worth joining up and having a look at all the 'Live' astronomy at nightskiesnetwork . com

My 'Live' channel is 'Snake Valley Australia'.

  • Great pictures ! Ken James rocks ! ;)

  • thank you Ken James for taking us on a deep space journey with you. you are a true master astronomer! this video inspired me to sub you!

  • beautiful pictures , have you done much ,,processing'' with them or are they untouched ?

  • Thanks skywalkme.

They are processed. Most images are made up of 8 - 12 seperate images of the object then stacked in Registax 3 to cancel out noise. Then taken to Photoshop for contrast adjustment and a bit of colour balance.

  • Haha, x files :)

Your observatory looks very cosy! I envy you and your location - I live right next to a road with street lights/artificial suns.

Amazing images - especially the Carina and Trifid nebulas. The colours are brought out wonderfully :)

  • Thanks Waffle.

Yes, it turns out that it is the smallest Roll-off roof Observatory in the world LOL! It is only 3'10" x 3'10".

I can't use it any more as I have stepped up to an 8" Klevtsov scope and it doesn't fit in there!

  • Beautiful little film! Well done! :o)

    cheers/ JC

  • Ken I want to know what type of telescope do you use and how do you hook up your Dslr with the telescope.

  • At the moment I use a Saxon ED80 Refractor.

The DSLR is attached with a 'T' adaptor which is made for attaching a DSLR to 2" focusers.

  • Incredible work Ken,i really admire you.i hope i can reach ur lvl one day, well in the future cause im starting now. Im buying a celestron nexstar 8 se,is it good for start?

  • Yes, you can use a Nexstar 8, but it will give you a tighter Feild Of View due to it's longer focal length. You won't be able to do widefield imaging, but some nice close-up work of DSO objects. If you use a webcam or Planetary camera it would be ideal.

  • 5 starts video

  • stars

  • Very nice work Ken, as usual, the music and the images, make it a great view. Thanks for sharing it with us.. 10/10...
