FM8 itself is quite simple. It's FM synthesis itself that takes years. I started with 2-op sine waves FM (often called 'simple FM') on 80's FM chips found in computer sound extensions. If that's all you have, for years, then you'll learn to squeeze the last drop from it. That discipline shows when you get to use FM8 - which is basically limitless. Most of all, you need a challenge. If you limit yourself to only use FM8, then the expertise comes automagically!
Excellent brass! the guiro's not quite perfect, but this is a sensational cover. Which they normally are, it's actually surprising it took this long to do oxygene 4
The cover took me only a few hours.. maybe 4..5, dunno. It's just that I took a few months off to spend on my study (journalism) - I finally made the first year complete, meaning I can stay ^_^.
As for the guiro: It'd be easy to pitch it up a bit, but I couldn't care less about it.
I'm sure there're countless synth(pop) classics around. While back in the days it sounded revolutionary, composition wise it's simple. Most of this is copy-paste, which is exactly why I did this one.. just a quicky to keep my channel updated, and because I'd probably do some ppl a favor.. ^^
Now, to do Ethnicolor 1 or Chronologie part 1, that would be something, far more interesting than these little ones. ^^

JMJ is always interested in other people's creativity with music, especially synthesizers.
He's more of a fan of creativity than of money, and truly a brilliant mind.
It's interesting to watch this clip, where you can actually see the notes being played.
Somehow it's close to the minimalistic style JMJ preferres in his clips.

The Eminent strings and lead are done perfectly, as well as the bass. Coming very close to the original.

@mvsmsx sorry by "took this long" i meant that i was surprised this was the order in which oxygene 4 was covered, it's such a synth classic.

@mvsmsx i'd like to see your FM8 take on the synthex bass from rendezvous II :) it seems like it'd be a sound that would transition well.

@mvsmsx Oh whoops, you've already done one. Jesus, feel stupid now
