My bunny has an open cage/condo and he runs around the house and goes back to his cage to poop in his litter box...i dont have to pick up hardly anything from him, hes pretty good. Bunnys are the best! but not easy at all, alot of bunnies like mine do loved to be petted, i guess it just depends on the personality.
@adogfromhell well if you play with your rabbits and give them love. That's mean this message is not for duh!!! She talking about those ppl they buy animal and keep them in a CAGE all the TIME! So this was not for you Thank you!
Are you kidding me ppl I think you guys need to go back and watch the video again. First she answering the ppl question and giving the ppl a warning before you get a rabbit that is not easy to take care if you don't have the time or the money, and this is how she does to her rabbit. Stupid ppl! Gosh!!!
@asweetmshell I was watching it and thinking "she looks like someone...." and I couldnt figure out who! But it's definitely Christina Applegate! haha thanks!!
Don't get me wrong, you seem to really love your rabbit. And overall the info you gave was great. I just get somewhat mad when probably one of the most important things about rabbits was not included.
I find it sad that you give this care video on rabbits, yet you do not even tell your viewers that hay should make up 80-90% of your bunny's diet. I'm only 13 yet I seem to know more. Please don't share information if you do not know what you're talking about.
my bunny would run around after me! i can call her name and she would run up. she is so cuddly and adorable! we give her love and everything she needs and i absolutely love her! my family and i think she was a dog in her past life cause she acts like one! haha
Awww no my bunnies are sooo much more lovin them my cats haha they just lay snuggled with me and lick me like they do to each other lol. I treat them as if they were my babies though haha
My rabbits run freely in our garden (1 of them is adoped too) and they come up to me once I open the door, Especially the adopted one sits around me just as long until i pet her. I even taught them to sit on their legs in order to get a treat XD. They do like to be touched, but it did take me quite a while for the adopted one to get used to it, but now shes addicted i guess!
i had pet rabbits growing up. i kept them in a hutch outside and they thrived. it's kind of judgmental to say that about people who keep their pet rabbits outside...
my pets were loved and played with every day. they ran around outside and were fine. it's a matter of opinion. i just wanted to share my experiences! rabbits are wonderful, loving animals!
this is a great video, alex! i'm glad you made this because you're so right.. a lot of people have NO idea what they are getting themselves into when they decide to adopt a rabbit. i wish more people would consider the ANIMAL first, and not themselves..after all, that animal is going to depend on you to survive, so you have to be willing to make sacrifices for it's well being.. just like you would a child.
I love this video, it is so helpful and very informative. I have 2 bunnies and like you said they are a lot of work but it is totally worth it. My dwarf bunny was very hesitant too at first when i first got him (baby) but when he warmed up to me 5 years later he gives me kisses and it makes my day much better. Bao Bao is too cute and all i can say is just be patient and soon he will give you love.
I have a rabbit and my mom never let's me bring her inside I let's her roam around in the backyard and we have it porches I don,t know what else to do
I had a rabbit from birth to about 12 years, he always cuddled and licked me. I could hold him like a baby and he would even shower with me lol he was serious the greatest so I definitely think it really depends on the upbringing and possibly type of rabbit. I had a dwarf angora.
I have a female mini-rex who is ridiculously affectionate! she loves to be pet on her nose and with time has began to give kisses to me on my nose! it's the most adorable thing, and it really shows me she appreciates how well I take care of her;)
bao bao is precious, and he look stinkin adoarble when he eats his treats!!Love it and he looks so cuddly/cozy,maybe in time he will be more of a cuddle bug and want to be held longer! He is sososo sweet!
my uncle has two rabbit and its caged up outside his house i feel realy bad for them but i dont have the guts to tell the not to caged them up... well they realy have no idea how to take care of an animal they even use to have a dog thats been locked up on their dirty backyard for his entire life... but i think this time i will have the guts to tell them not to adopt anymore animals cuz they dont know how to take care of them...
I had a dwarf rabbit that like to cuddle. Often when I fell asleep without putting him in the cage I would wake up to find him cuddled next to me, I walked him on a little leash and I took him to a daycare where I worked and he was a hit during circle time.
Rabbits don't like to picked up because in the wild they are prey animals. Larger breeds like the giant lop-eared like to be handled more because they are harder to attack (in the wild).
Bunnies are so cute and I used to want one more than anything, but I discovered they aren't really the best pet for me at the moment. Bao is adorable though, and you seem to be a good owner.
Adorable! I have a blue/grey lop twice the size of Bao Bao! :D You should be able to forge a stronger bond with your bunny over time by spending time 'grooming' him at his level on the floor (most rabbits don't like being picked up). Rabbits LOVE to be pet on their head and around the eyes - it makes them feel special. My rabbit has developed the habit of coming up to me and putting her head down (submission) to be pat. She also likes her belly rubbed, it's the only time she'll groom me back!
i cant tell you how much i appreciate that you made this video, i used to have a bunny named thumper but he passed away. he was so sweet and cute i loved him, and having a bunny as a pet was amazing. bunnies are so special and they are not to be taken lightly, its seriously a big job but worth all the trouble :)
My rabbit follows me every where and cuddles.....I treat him the same way you do, I potty trained him...his cage is where he poops and pees and the house is all his to be free....he's licking my arm as i type this. lol awwww I love Bao Bao <3 so cute! I love this video! <3
i completely agree, i love my bunny bentley, the binky is worth it or watching them toss their toss around and be happy, and not in cage, is completely worth all the work you put in.. and you can see it when they look at you that they are thankful =)
AAWWW! Bao looks exactly like my old bunny frost :) ive had 2 bunnies before, sadly they both hav passed but i loved them with all my heart! I just wanted to say Dont give up hope on Bao being affectionate, i found my bunny frost in the country club i live in and she hated to be held, and after a couple years she started taking naps on my lap and would enjoy being pet, as long as it was on her own terms of course :) Good Luck with your baby! :)
Thank you for making this video! I'm sure you cleared a lot of things up for people and it's so nice to see that bao bao has such a great owner (: Love your channel! xx
I have a rabbit too, one book I found after the fact that I bought my bunny was....
House Rabbit Handbook: How to Live With an Urban Rabbit
Marinell Harriman (Author)
I def recommend this read to anyone who has or is thinking about getting a bunny =] def do research before getting any new pet! I know this is hard because I have totally bought pets on the spur of the moment. Props to you for letting everyone know its not as easy as it looks! THUMBS UP
bunnys are very social and are different than dogs. dogs can live a fullfilling life with their dog owner. but rabbits are living in groups. they need to cuddle, to communicate with their bunnie homies and to fight ... to clean one another. people who has never seen two rabbits playing around always say, "no MY rabbit ist different, he ist happy". but think logical. you are not a fitting partner. and he will never understand your human behaviour. so ...
I LOVE that you made this video!! I am an animal lover and have owned rabbits and I am so happy to hear the way you take care of Bao and how you reiterate the fact that they should not live exclusively in a cage!! xx
i ♥ this video! You definitley treat Bao Bao right, respectfully! Thank you for stressing the point not to adopt or purchase an animal then abandoning it. I see some people here on youtube who obviously treat their animal wrong, like JLovesMac1, she is too aggressive w/her little maltese, poor thing.
Your bunny is SO cute! I love feeding rabbits. I am a dog person though. I like all the cuddles and affection. hehe Animals being thrown out are horrible! I'm glad you made this video!!!!!
I love this video. I am a bit rabbit lover and everything you say in this video is so important. Best rabbit care video ever! Please always keep this video online!
About cuddles, I have had two rabbits that were exessively cuddly and followed me around the house. My sister had one that she adopted, i.e. that had had a previous owner, and that did not want to cuddle or be held at all!
Just saying I kept my rabbit in a hutch in my house. Majority of the time he'd be out and about but we have a very open floor plan so a lot of the time he'd run rampant so we kept him in a hutch the other times. Once he even escaped from our house and went running around underneath our cars.. lol. & He was affectionate but independent I'd say. :] Honestly though rabbits will never like inside areas they LIKE the outside so we let him go but it made him happy and he raised his own family!
You're very caring, Alex. I love this video and I completely agree with everything you've said in this video. Love doesn't always come in return. And I appreciate this video because I think it's sickening that people buy rabbits or any other kind of animal which can be caged to leave it outside in the cold. Great video Alex, 10/10 x
I understand where you are coming from but I've had around 3 rabbits my lifetime and they have been in cages outside and they are perfectly fine. I would think people would want them to get adopted and have a home rather then getting killed off or sitting in an adoption agency their whole life. I'm not saying people shouldn't let them out once a day or handle them but I'm saying at least these people are adopting them.
when i put my bunny on the floor he poops in his litter box. lol maybe mine is special :P my bunny also loves to cuddle and is very affectionate. what kind of bunny do you have. apparently some bunnies are less affectionate then other breeds. so that might bt why
rabbit is eatable... just eat it .. u fattened it up for what? so it can scratch and shed hair on u.. doesnt that seem stupid lol...if it had a choice im sure it would run away from u... get a dog or something
my little sister cut the skin off my rabbit, like 3 cm by 2cm cut... never knew wat happened to its cut skin, couldnt find it..... then the area that was cut dried up and started flaking,,,,,,, about a month later the rabbit ran away n we found it on da side of the road... dead :/ ... random comment: i dont like animals that dont show affection, wats da use
i love animals! though i have to say if i had to choose one favorite it would be cats! and i also hate to see animals abandoned, especially when its because the owners have children that cant treat them right. i always make sure to go to my local SPCA when i can and hang out with the cats and give them lots of love, i have 2 of my own who get everything from me and my family, and hopefully we will be adding 2 more soon =]
people use bunnys at farms for the fur... people with bunnys in hutches know more about rabbits than u...having ur rabbit running around in your white house shitting everywhere is disgusting. o btw my brother is special needs, it really helps when u say "retarded".
Hey! My bunny wads the complete opposite! He showed so much love and affection! He loved to be picked up and flipped upsidedown, that was his favourite. Every night he would get really angry if no one would cuddle him on the couch! It was also really cute, we would let him roam free at the woods at our cottage and he would come back every night! He pasted away a few years ago, but I could tell he loved me with all of his heart. Every day he'd wait by the door for when id come home from school.
I know this is out of subject but hun you are a Barbie doll! you are incredibly beautiful!! I am so happy to see that beautiful women like yourself are so caring and thoughtful to pets, it is very very generous of you to invest so much time, energy and love to take care of Bao Bao. He is absolutely adorable :) xoxo
My bunny had past away in February, thinking it could of been heart failure he was older.... Was the worst experience to lose him after having him for about 9 years.... He was White dwarf hoto with bright blue eyes and went by the name "Pockets" he was the cutest thing ever and loved to cuddle with me. There isnt a day that goes buy that I dont miss him... RIP Pockets
Great video!.. caged bunnies make me sad! ;( What I hate when parents buy bunnies in easter for there kids b/c there "cute" but dont take care of them and let them free.. GR!
sadly i was never allowed a dog but i found the cutest black rabbit in a pet shop near where i live(Ireland).he had a hutch out my garden but could always get out of it even when i shut the gate at night,i stopped closing it because he could get out anyway but my garden was safe for him to run around in.unfortunately when he was 7 one morning we woke up and he had disappeared. i was extremely upset as he was my first long-term pet and to this day i have no idea where he could be :(
Hi Alex, I had 3 Holland dwarf floppy ear bunnies and I let them run around too. Although I don’t know about BaoBao but ALL my electrical wires and the buttons of my remotes are chewed through/off but they are indeed too cute to resist. One of my bunnies also like to roll a volley ball around by himself…you should try it!
Bao Bao is so cute and you're totally right rabbits are a lot of work...i have two but still even though they pretty much like to be left alone I love my two sooooo much I miss them when they go back in their cage at night. People should definitely love their pets no matter what animal they have. Animals don't get a choice of who their owners are but we choose to bring them home with us so they deserve our love and attention.
this was my fav rabbit care video lol.. I hate how the YT community is so anal about rabbit care and no matter what you say your wrong. Like the whole you HAVE to buy two bunnies comment- not true, although it is ideal, friends of mine had A bunny at a time and they lived happy long lives. *end rant* I LOVE the name Bao!! Soo cute how did u think of it? And off subject- but u remind me of christina applegate lol
I had a hare which is very similar to rabbit with some differences in appearance and such. And I remember he would poop just about everywhere lol and they looked an awful lot like Cocoa Puffs around the time we ate Cocoa Puffs. We released him into the wild after we took care of him because he just loved the outside, like cats do. And then after we never ate Cocoa Puffs again. Oh and he visits us too.
My bunny loves being petted and stroked! I guess they all have different personalities :) Glad you made this video though, people need to realise its not easy looking after a bunny!
I had a rabbit for 8y,and he never pooped outside his litterbox!:) thoug he chewed off the TV remote buttons,I miss him so much</3 We let him run free in our yard for a couple of hours, and he never ran away,(ofc we watched him and he was in his cage at night)he also was very cozy<3
hi Alex I agree with your philosophy. I have a 6 yr old mini lop. One way he shares affection is he will let me pet his forehead for hours when hes under the table or couch. I guess he feels relatively protected. If I stop petting he'll gently nudge or lick my hand. You might try this with Bao. By the way - i'm sure he loves you.
the most important thing above all, when keeping a rabbit is to have TWO of them. they never ever can become 100% happy and satisfied, if you keep them alone, without a partner. no man can replace his natural partner bunny. so in switzerland its forbidden only to keep one rabbit - for very good reason.
@babyshamble81 ive had my rabbit mainly alone for almost all his life (he is 11) and he is very happy and content he looks to me and my mam as his friends and contently plays with us. so not the same is true for every rabbit. socks is 100% happy
@rockaholic192 ever see two rabbit rockers cuddling around???? kissing each other, licking each other ? you cant compare their natural behaviours with the sympathy for their pet owner. its only sympathy. you never can be a 100% fullfilling bunnie partner.. are you sitting 24hours every day just around him? no. so you can't say: he is happy, because you have no comparison to REAL happiness of bunnies with their homies, chilling in the garden or flat. you cant treating a rabbit like a dog.
like ive said in another comment my rabbit is 11 he lives alone in an indorr cage in our conservitory. he lived in a cage outside for arounf 7 years of his life. being allowed to run in the garden when it was sunny and dry or when someone was in the garden due to the birds of prey living in the trees behinf our house. he dislikes being out of his cage now he is not unhappy, anrgy he trusts me 100% and has only bite me twice when he was a baby. not all rabbits are the same. dont class them as it!
i got my bunny when i saw someone dump it on the side of the road. i got it hes potty trained and he loves to lick and ive had him for 11 years! and hes still hoppin(: he runs curcles around my feet. hes white and brown and Huge bigger than my cat not fat wise but hes just big
i used to have a reallly large white rabbit called Colin :P and he used to cuddle up to us and fall asleep on our laps. Its so true about what you said about caging them, why get an animal if your just going to cage it? theres absolutely no point. Bao Bao is so cute <3 I wish my rabbit were still here x
Lovely video :) I have guinea pigs, and I always felt that I was too old to have small pets like guinea pigs, hamsters, bunnies etc (Im 25) I dont care what ppl think, I still love my small pets and wouldnt give them up for anything in the world. but Its rly sweet to see girls that is above the age of 12 that still cares for animals and keeps them as pets :) Bao is adorable <3
I have bunnys too :) I like your video very much !! :) But i think the best thing you can do is having two of them, It's so nice to watch them when they cuddle and play witch each other :) xo
I have bunnys too :) I like your video very much !! :) But i think the best thing you can do is having two of them, It's so nice to watch them when they cuddle and play witch each other :) xo
I agree with almost everything that you said except the being selfish part. I think bunnys have personalitys just like we do, so there are bunnys who dislike human contact but there are those who love it, like mine. She'd come to me and lie on my lap so I could pet her & would get exited when she heard me and came hopping.
I'm sad I had to put her to down due to illness, but I'll never stop giving animals a loving home and I am glad I recieve so much love in return, no matter what animal I own.
My bunny cuddled! I think it was because I started cuddling him the moment I got him, in the car on the way home. I think it sort of conditioned him to it! Bunnies are the very best.
Well, I wouldn´t like to be held like that either. neither of the two rabbits i had enjoyd being picked up, they are scared if they have nothing to rest their feet on or if forced into an unnatural posture. try to hold one forearm horizontal, let Bao "stand" on it with all of his paws and secure him with your other hand. not the most comfortable position for you, but the best for your rabbit.
@sweetnothing Actually it's a bread like item in Chinese cuisine. It doesn't mean white. She explain the meaning behind her rabbit's name couple videos back.
i loved my bunny! we left her rome around the kitchen, took her in out in the garden, hahah my mom always bought her the best veggies, honestly she was probably the happiest bunny in the whole wide world. my whole family seriously thought of her as a puppy. But last may she got cancer, we put her through surgery and she past away. rip butterscotch :(
you looks so pretty :)

House Rabbit Handbook: How to Live With an Urban Rabbit

I love this video. I am a bit rabbit lover and everything you say in this video is so important. Best rabbit care video ever! Please always keep this video online!
About cuddles, I have had two rabbits that were exessively cuddly and followed me around the house. My sister had one that she adopted, i.e. that had had a previous owner, and that did not want to cuddle or be held at all!
angelfoodcake1979 6 months ago
Just saying I kept my rabbit in a hutch in my house. Majority of the time he'd be out and about but we have a very open floor plan so a lot of the time he'd run rampant so we kept him in a hutch the other times. Once he even escaped from our house and went running around underneath our cars.. lol. & He was affectionate but independent I'd say. :] Honestly though rabbits will never like inside areas they LIKE the outside so we let him go but it made him happy and he raised his own family!
sweeterthanhunni 6 months ago
You're very caring, Alex. I love this video and I completely agree with everything you've said in this video. Love doesn't always come in return. And I appreciate this video because I think it's sickening that people buy rabbits or any other kind of animal which can be caged to leave it outside in the cold. Great video Alex, 10/10 x
TrolleyxDolly 6 months ago
I understand where you are coming from but I've had around 3 rabbits my lifetime and they have been in cages outside and they are perfectly fine. I would think people would want them to get adopted and have a home rather then getting killed off or sitting in an adoption agency their whole life. I'm not saying people shouldn't let them out once a day or handle them but I'm saying at least these people are adopting them.

i love animals! though i have to say if i had to choose one favorite it would be cats! and i also hate to see animals abandoned, especially when its because the owners have children that cant treat them right. i always make sure to go to my local SPCA when i can and hang out with the cats and give them lots of love, i have 2 of my own who get everything from me and my family, and hopefully we will be adding 2 more soon =]

Every day he'd wait by the door for when id come home from school.

sadly i was never allowed a dog but i found the cutest black rabbit in a pet shop near where i live(Ireland).he had a hutch out my garden but could always get out of it even when i shut the gate at night,i stopped closing it because he could get out anyway but my garden was safe for him to run around in.unfortunately when he was 7 one morning we woke up and he had disappeared. i was extremely upset as he was my first long-term pet and to this day i have no idea where he could be :(

Oh and he visits us too.

hi Alex I agree with your philosophy.

If you hold his back legs he will feel safer and he will let you hold him more :)

the most important thing above all, when keeping a rabbit is to have TWO of them. they never ever can become 100% happy and satisfied, if you keep them alone, without a partner. no man can replace his natural partner bunny. so in switzerland its forbidden only to keep one rabbit - for very good reason.
babyshamble81 6 months ago 85
@babyshamble81 ive had my rabbit mainly alone for almost all his life (he is 11) and he is very happy and content he looks to me and my mam as his friends and contently plays with us. so not the same is true for every rabbit. socks is 100% happy
rockaholic192 6 months ago
@rockaholic192 ever see two rabbit rockers cuddling around???? kissing each other, licking each other ? you cant compare their natural behaviours with the sympathy for their pet owner. its only sympathy. you never can be a 100% fullfilling bunnie partner.. are you sitting 24hours every day just around him? no. so you can't say: he is happy, because you have no comparison to REAL happiness of bunnies with their homies, chilling in the garden or flat. you cant treating a rabbit like a dog.
babyshamble81 6 months ago
like ive said in another comment my rabbit is 11 he lives alone in an indorr cage in our conservitory. he lived in a cage outside for arounf 7 years of his life. being allowed to run in the garden when it was sunny and dry or when someone was in the garden due to the birds of prey living in the trees behinf our house. he dislikes being out of his cage now he is not unhappy, anrgy he trusts me 100% and has only bite me twice when he was a baby. not all rabbits are the same. dont class them as it!
