....the way i see it, at 0:53 they both lost...its my understanding that the Shinai is suppose to be a non-lethal sword. if this where a real sword fight, they would BOTH be bleeding from the skull. hence why i have not joined Kendo, they teach how to play a game. not survive a sword fight.

Furthermore, iv been called a "jerk" and "sick" because of my opinion. Re-read my comment, are you saying that Kendo ~Does~ teach how to survive a sword fight??....or how to score a point in a kendo match.....Im not looking to score points I'm looking to learn a survival skill. I guess that makes me a sick jerk.

But at least one observable aspect is there are rules, I.e. there are certain techniques one is not allowed to use. therefor, when it comes down to a match, both opponents can expect Kendo techniques. Obviously the human element comes in, who is faster, has a faster reaction time or knows more advanced techniques. ~I~ think its a hindrance when one is trying to see what the body is truly capable of when under these conditions.

I dont understand some descisions. LIke the one where white comes at red red block no one gets a hit (to my eyes) and red gets a point after the judge raises the white flag a little (what does this mean when they do that raise one slightly then the other fully?)

if you look at reds feet right before the strike, his weight is shifted back to his left foot, he's in no condition to make an attack. whites strike was an effective cut, red only made a hit.
