I suppose BP could have fitted a B.O.P valve but I think that the company that own the rig "transocean" (an American company) should have fitted one when they first started operations.
@KataVideo Transocean is an American Co. that has a small office overseas, So that don't have to pay taxes here in the U.S. Look up Rachael Maddow,Msnbc, for verification
not if bp didnt want to pay for it,bp is like a bank they lease everything and take the profits, they own very little assests.they rent everything to get the profits.
The current LMRP Cap is not working. Two thirds of the oil is still escaping into the Gulf. The sooner we recognize the failure the sooner we can move on to a better solution. There should be dozens of LMRP Cap designs in process with the best designs being candidates for consideration as a replacement. I can’t understand why we are waiting. If BP had a solution they would have the well sealed by now.

We can get off most fossil fuels within 20-30 years if we put a concerted effort into solar, wind, fuel cells, electric cars, algae biofuels, and new nuclear technologies.
We also need a new national smart power grid to move electricity.
We can use a carbon tax on fossil fuels to pay for it, and it'll provide millions of JOBS that can't be exported.
Europe & China are ALREADY doing this and America will lose out in future green energy technologies, if we don't.

Good video. But, why am I hearing about this now? Shouldn't environmentalists be focusing on real preventable disasters like this spill rather than chasing grandiose dreams of saving the planet? Are there any environmentalists out there that can at least say "we tried" in regards to blowout preventers being properly regulated? Or are we still worried about AGW and spotted owls?
@wglwill do you recall any instance of the bush-1 or bush-2 administration listening to environmentalists? what the hell are environmentalists supposed to do, forcibly take over the platform and install the device?
@KataVideo If environmentalists were concerned with objectively verifiable existential issues like this type of deregulation then they'd gain a lot more credibility to be able to stop events like this. Even if they failed to get the regulations back in they could have said "see we told you so." Instead most of the environmental disaster scenarios that hit the mainstream that never happen cause people to dismiss the whole movement as alarmist.
@wglwill ACC has been objectively verified within the scientific community, the mainstream media tends to distort things because they are corporately owned. The changes associated with climate change are not the disaster movie scenarios that these movies often portray, but they are subtle and cumulative. Strategies to fight ACC call for a shift away from oil to renewables, costing these oil giants their profits. They fight this by manufacturing doubt on issues which we already have consensus.
@wglwill The truth is many of us are, you just don't hear much about it. The problem is we do our work, present our findings & recommendations and the politicians just go along with the corporate bloodsuckers instead. It happens with every environmental issue out there. We have had better luck with some issues because there is public outcry on these things very quickly. But with these oil platforms, out of sight, out of mind until something like this happens
People don't want to realize the extent of the damage that Bush/Cheney yrs has reaped on this country. Hopefully this will make President Obama retract on this offshore drilling idea. If govenor Arnold can retract, then so should the president.
I dont understand why the Great Anointed One, Obama, couldnt see this coming and have warned us. Instead of heading out to play golf, couldnt he just speak a few words from his anointed lips and cause the oil flow to stop? Thank you for playing the Bush card on this --- surely this must be Bushs fault!!
@wildetaube cheney said "no safety device required".. oil well blows up and leaks because no safety device installed. what is it you don't get, you fucking moron?
I worked on rigs in 70's between bands. On my channel I have first hand account of 1st day only, and laws and reg's broken in 8 hour period! quick read.
@KataVideo Thats whats they said. And if you dont play ball they will cut your fingers off while 'doing chain'. Another story, another time.
Meanwhile they let, AND THEY ARE DOING IT NOW, and allow natural gas, and I mean acres and acres around the 'oil rig' to blow freely into the atmosphere!
This planet will never recover as long as we depend on oil.Its to bad the planet would suffer because id like to blow every rig and platform off the fucking map.I wish the earth had a secret army to kill all who harms her,,cocksuckers,,anything to make a buck.
These are complete lies. There as never been an oil platform in US waters that has exploded like this. They had spotless safety records. Yes they did have pipeline closure system just for this kind of situation. Somehow it failed. With these facts plus BP giving tons of money to the Obama Regime. Also with the great debate on whether to drill more or use windmills and solar panels. I don't think this was some freak accident.
@craigdb84 no, you lied. and fuck you and your mother for calling me a liar.
while this is the first major explosion of an oil platform in U.S. waters, there have been dozens of spills. major spills in 1979, 1990, 2000, 2008 and January of this year. In 2005, more than 7 million gallons of oil were spilled during Hurricane Katrina.
stop getting your information from fox and rush asshole, maybe you'll learn something.
fact: in 2001, cheney said "no safety device": today we pay for it.
@Jarut195 Amen Jarut195! I also thought I would mention that because of bush/cheney, we might as well sent a gold embossed invatation to every country in the world that it is ok if any country wants to invade the US if they THINK we have WMD's. We will be living the massive fuck ups of the bush administration for decades!
@OrlandoTeaPartyVideo Let us know what is false about the video. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what an oil spill does to the ecology. We are still dealing with the Exxon Valdez incident. Drill baby drill, you right wingers don't give a fuck about our beautiful planet. Now go to your little tea party, then after that google oil spills and find out what long lasting damage it does!
@Orlando Can you research just a little and find out who deregulated laws for off shore drilling?
Heres a clue! DUH! Follow the money.
Both parties get monies from 'ALL' the damn lobbyists. But if you right wing morons want to pull bullshit from ur ass go look it up.
I suppose Mr Expert here the 'blow out preventer worked. They've only been in existence now for 35 years. Brazil and Norway along with 100's of others have taken it to a 'fail safe' electronic system, that close that hole.
@KataVideo Thats what they do. Its all they have. Sad and pathetic. we'll beat their pussy asses back. I love pussy morons that support BP [British petroleum] over USA
I figured I'd go ahead and block you now for being a moron. Also block for low iq'd teabaggers named Gomer. Also for homophobes-haters-liars and 'shit flingers'.
Pick a couple. They're on sale today.
Try to not hurt yourself as you navigate though life. heh heh
Don't you find it kind of creepy that Halliburton is always some how involved and the reason why bad things are happening. Cheney isn't as frantic as he was when President Obama was first elected. Guess he thinks he got away with it.
I realize that the oil kills birds and stuff; but all those things come back over time. I mean the people complaining are other businesses like shrimp, and others that will be impacted.. as oil is natural in "the enviornment" and though it kills, it is also part of life and a source for other types of life. Its not to say the spill is not inexcusable or cheney culpable.. but the mess is inconvenient, not an end to life as we know it.
@cheekieweekie okay, not quite true. oil exists, buried deep underground. when it does bubble to the surface, such as in tar pits, it's not a nice thing. things tend to get caught in it and die. it's toxic.
@KataVideo Aye, brother/sister, yet oil they say comes from squished decayed organic matter - something the earth must be in all processes of manufacture by its natural methods... and part of it is dead organic matter of all sorts, birds and all. If they lie to us about the origin of greek fire, then different, but how could squished organic dead stuff be ultimately toxic? Volcanos that kill are natural too - this imaginary perfect state of cataclysm free life is a myth.
@cheekieweekie - You miss the point that those who reap enormous wealth from the earth have an increased responsibility to not foul it for others. - The problem is that GREED trumps responsible stewardship - This event is another example of large corporate interests taking precedent over that of the benefit of society at large. - With the Supreme Court's recent ruling, it's only gonna get worse.
Clearly, the US had the best government money can buy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
So the ass hole democrats will still blame Bush and Cheney for every disaster two years after they have been out of office. Fuck you liberals your time of domination in the government is almost over.
@espltd12 the list of things that bush/cheney fucked up and Obama (and his successors) will need to repair is miles long. to paraphrase rummy, these are "unknown unknowns". deregulation buried so deep in the bureaucracies that we don't find out until it's too late.. just like this damned oil spill.
The failure of Government is all around us to long to late - Want Health care? Bring home our troops DemoRepublicans we can use our troops here
The big difference between Katrina and this Oil mess is Katrina was believed to be caused by nature the black oil spill was caused by man Britain we are faced with another Obamanation of America and sea life. How about firing a missal like the one used to cap on the pentagon for war ploy? Or Termite that was used to take down the towers?
Come to think of it, 11 more dead bodies on Dick's record really doesn't mean anything. He couldn't care less. What I don't understand is why dick's like Cheney live forever! I hope he likes the heat, cause where that mo-fo is going, I hear it gets pretty hot!
Excellent video! Deregulation fails again. Like Thom Hartmann says, You can't play football without rules and goal posts and business is no different.
Ya, aren't we glad that we didn't listen to that Tennessee bitch, "Drill baby Drill?" Oh ya, her name is Marsha Blackburn. She has one brain cell in her head!
Great one as always, Kata. Meanwhile it should be mandatory that all the crooks who claim "drill baby, drill" should go to Gulf of Mexico and help clean up. It's going to ruin thousands of lives in this country. The states affected by this horrible disaster are responsible for 25% of the food consumed in this country. But the oil industry is so powerful with their filthy money, they won't stop at nothing. Yet, perhaps it was a waking call to the future of drilling. GREEN ENERGY NOW!
This is why we're not hearing from the RepublicTURDs, they're all in hiding especially Cheney. Back peddle, back peddle, and more back peddling from the RepubliCONs. People are stupid for blaming Obama on this oil spill, this is what happens when you "Deregulate"...
It was only a matter of time. I'm willing to say that this development has a silver lining. People need to see the consequences of off shore drilling before mindlessly chanting drill baby drill to the nears souls moron.
@KataVideo Yeah the salt deposits and the energy consumption of reverse osmosis are the big problems with desalination currently.
There's a Canadian start up company looking for investors for a salt water battery system which uses 80% less electricity than conventional desalination. Either that, or power the damn plants with solar energy....it's not that f*cking hard! (i get cranky with the desal debate! :))
Blame it all on Bush and the Republicans. Both Parties are not the same. Republicans are stupid at best and deliberate terrorists at worst. I vote for the "at worst' part of the statement. They brought us bush and now we have the tea partiers on our hands because we didn't round them up and export them.
Terrific video Kata! It was the gop and bush who deregulated all the safety requirements and regulations for just these types of "possible" accidents. Thank the republicans for destroying multi-millions in fishing revenue for American Fisherman and poisoning Our environment, the Ocean's Inhabitant's environment, and all Our food supplies, all at the same time. These are the loonies that think they're moral too. Great revealing video!
I really hate to say this Kata, but Obama needs to stop being nice to the republicans. That oil spill right there can hurt him in elections for trying to please to the GOP. This will teach the president a lesson to think twice before he tries to please someone. I know being Bi-partisan may look cool, but if one side don't wanna do anything. I would have told the Repugs, Fuck'em.
@Voodooray007 when Prez Obama approved more off-shore drilling, don't forget that it takes at least 10-15 years from approval to pumping. And he's insisting on safety measures that the bush-cheney piggies didn't. There's plenty of time for the report on THIS spill to come in before making another decision.
nearly simultaneously, Obama approved a clean-energy wind farm off martha's vineyard.
In the meantime, the repugs can't say "drill baby drill".. Obama took that issue away from them.
I'm also spreading it too, as juicy nuggets like this are what help people realise the level of 'corruption' that's been at play in governments with this 'air or respectability' and supposed integrity.
Doesn't 'Dubya' look particularly OLD these days?
-more signs that the pressures of the legacy of his regime is taking its toll...
it's like some corporations have been given the green light on being as GREEDY as they want, by all means necessary.

Good video. But, why am I hearing about this now? Shouldn't environmentalists be focusing on real preventable disasters like this spill rather than chasing grandiose dreams of saving the planet? Are there any environmentalists out there that can at least say "we tried" in regards to blowout preventers being properly regulated? Or are we still worried about AGW and spotted owls?
wglwill 1 year ago
@wglwill do you recall any instance of the bush-1 or bush-2 administration listening to environmentalists? what the hell are environmentalists supposed to do, forcibly take over the platform and install the device?
and BTW. AGW is real.
KataVideo 1 year ago
@KataVideo If environmentalists were concerned with objectively verifiable existential issues like this type of deregulation then they'd gain a lot more credibility to be able to stop events like this. Even if they failed to get the regulations back in they could have said "see we told you so." Instead most of the environmental disaster scenarios that hit the mainstream that never happen cause people to dismiss the whole movement as alarmist.
wglwill 1 year ago
@wglwill ACC has been objectively verified within the scientific community, the mainstream media tends to distort things because they are corporately owned. The changes associated with climate change are not the disaster movie scenarios that these movies often portray, but they are subtle and cumulative. Strategies to fight ACC call for a shift away from oil to renewables, costing these oil giants their profits. They fight this by manufacturing doubt on issues which we already have consensus.
omarspence 1 year ago
@wglwill The truth is many of us are, you just don't hear much about it. The problem is we do our work, present our findings & recommendations and the politicians just go along with the corporate bloodsuckers instead. It happens with every environmental issue out there. We have had better luck with some issues because there is public outcry on these things very quickly. But with these oil platforms, out of sight, out of mind until something like this happens
omarspence 1 year ago
People don't want to realize the extent of the damage that Bush/Cheney yrs has reaped on this country. Hopefully this will make President Obama retract on this offshore drilling idea. If govenor Arnold can retract, then so should the president.

I dont understand why the Great Anointed One, Obama, couldnt see this coming and have warned us. I don't think this was some freak accident.
craigdb84 1 year ago
@craigdb84 no, you lied. and fuck you and your mother for calling me a liar.
while this is the first major explosion of an oil platform in U.S. waters, there have been dozens of spills. major spills in 1979, 1990, 2000, 2008 and January of this year. In 2005, more than 7 million gallons of oil were spilled during Hurricane Katrina.
stop getting your information from fox and rush asshole, maybe you'll learn something.
fact: in 2001, cheney said "no safety device": today we pay for it.

I realize that the oil kills birds and stuff; but all those things come back over time. I mean the people complaining are other businesses like shrimp, and others that will be impacted.. as oil is natural in "the enviornment" and though it kills, it is also part of life and a source for other types of life. Its not to say the spill is not inexcusable or cheney culpable.. but the mess is inconvenient, not an end to life as we know it.
cheekieweekie 1 year ago
@cheekieweekie okay, not quite true. oil exists, buried deep underground. when it does bubble to the surface, such as in tar pits, it's not a nice thing. things tend to get caught in it and die. it's toxic.
KataVideo 1 year ago 2
@KataVideo Aye, brother/sister, yet oil they say comes from squished decayed organic matter - something the earth must be in all processes of manufacture by its natural methods... and part of it is dead organic matter of all sorts, birds and all. If they lie to us about the origin of greek fire, then different, but how could squished organic dead stuff be ultimately toxic? Volcanos that kill are natural too - this imaginary perfect state of cataclysm free life is a myth.
cheekieweekie 1 year ago
@cheekieweekie - You miss the point that those who reap enormous wealth from the earth have an increased responsibility to not foul it for others. - The problem is that GREED trumps responsible stewardship - This event is another example of large corporate interests taking precedent over that of the benefit of society at large. - With the Supreme Court's recent ruling, it's only gonna get worse.
Clearly, the US had the best government money can buy.

Great one as always, Kata. Meanwhile it should be mandatory that all the crooks who claim "drill baby, drill" should go to Gulf of Mexico and help clean up. It's going to ruin thousands of lives in this country. The states affected by this horrible disaster are responsible for 25% of the food consumed in this country. But the oil industry is so powerful with their filthy money, they won't stop at nothing. Yet, perhaps it was a waking call to the future of drilling. GREEN ENERGY NOW!

@chayaus thank you madam Prime Minister. Next we get to work on a desalinization scheme that doesn't dump the salt out in one place.
KataVideo 1 year ago
@KataVideo Yeah the salt deposits and the energy consumption of reverse osmosis are the big problems with desalination currently.
There's a Canadian start up company looking for investors for a salt water battery system which uses 80% less electricity than conventional desalination. Either that, or power the damn plants with solar energy....it's not that f*cking hard! (i get cranky with the desal debate! :))

Great Video.
Voodooray007 1 year ago 4
@Voodooray007 when Prez Obama approved more off-shore drilling, don't forget that it takes at least 10-15 years from approval to pumping. And he's insisting on safety measures that the bush-cheney piggies didn't. There's plenty of time for the report on THIS spill to come in before making another decision.
nearly simultaneously, Obama approved a clean-energy wind farm off martha's vineyard.
In the meantime, the repugs can't say "drill baby drill".. Obama took that issue away from them.
