Bravo.Excelente Manuel.
Youth Orchestra? These young adults are professionals! Venezuela really is the main exporter of talented, dedicated individuals. Tchaikovsky and Russia would be proud!
GOD I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE AUDIENCE WHEN THIS WAS RECORDED!!!! The sound, the volume, the feeling, the raw emotions, the utter grandeur of this piece would have had me in an utter frenzy of tears and excitement!!! Bravo to this orchestra of talented, young and beautiful musicians...and to the concert master!!! my hat goes off to you! your control of these musicians is proof in the performance itself!
The reason that this orchestra is so wonderful is that they play with total commitment. The reason that they play with total commitment is because they are young and truly love what they are doing. You can see it on their faces, in the way they move to the music and how they follow their brilliant conductor. I have heard recordings of this overture by the greatest orchestras in the world but none have played it so movingly as these young musicians. Viva Venezuela!
This piece has been a favourite of mine since I was a child.
(I know some people dislike Tchaikovsky for his "high emotion" music...
I couldn't care less. I think it is a profoundly beautiful piece of music.)
@Hadewijch I agree. People who are bothered by too much emotion in music are blatantly disregarding the deepest and most profound element of music. Music without emotion is not music and not nothing more than incidental.
Thats because he leaves everyone mesmerised...and forget to leave a comment ! Incredible Conductor and Orchestra !...Incredible what the new venezuelan youth is capable of ! Dudamel found his competition !....
Muchísimas felicidades a ambos.
Completely thrilling. As a Tchaikovsky scholar I am happy to give this version my highest recommendation. I can barely believe that both conductor and players are so young, but even if I hadn't been able to see that, this would still have been a peach of a performances. Many, many congratulations. You have me weeping here!
Absolutely! What's next? Rachmaninoff? I can't believe these young people can express this sort of passion. I'd recommend they play Rachmaninoff next. It's remarkable. I can almost hear them play Isle of the Dead. Good companion piece along with R&J and Francesca.
I would love to hear Maestro Gomez in Tchaik's Second Symphony or, far more rarely played, his Third Suite in G. Perhaps Rach's Symphonic Dances? There's so much to look forward to in what I'm sure will be a long career from this amazingly talented young conductor. Keep your head, Maestro. You are a 'boy king'!
what proud one feels when you read that many wonderful comments about this extraordinary young symphonic orchestra from my country, and the incredible conduction by Manuel Lopez Gomez, and if you combine this with the music of the greatest of all romantics Tchaicowsky, what else might you ask for, congratulations and long live one of my very own favorites composers
Senor Gomez, I just wnated to say that I have only a hand full of times been so moved by a group of young Latino players. I remeber as a young violinist always being the only Latino in professsional orchestras. This performance literally moved me to tears. Your conducting and their playing is utterly spirited and moving, much like many of the great orchestras of the world that I have had the pleasure of seeing: Concertgetbouw, LSO,Berliner Philharmoniker, etc, etc. Bravo!
Many people, Maestro, will tell you what a wonderful sound your orchestra makes. How they play with a passion which is incredible for their age. Perhaps not so many will tell you what an exceptionally talented communicator YOU are. You have a remarkable talent. I am so moved to hear Tchaikovsky played like this. Congratulations, Maestro and warmest wishes for your future success.
INdeed - it is very much alike Ozawa's recording (though of course it has its own charme) for the DGG, and if that isn't a marvellous one I don't know which is.
This interpretation is really extraordinary, exceptional ... compliments, I never heard this piece played with so much passion and intensity: the direction, especially in this part, which is my favorite, couldn't be more passionate... Thank you for this wonderful execution!
my favorite composer "TCHAIKOVSKY", the BEST in the world. WOW!! i found this by accident. i was looking for tchaikovsky's music and there you were, " venezuela youth symphony orchestra". i use to live in barquisimeto many years ago. i'm aghast at how this young people are executing this music. i must commend them for such magnificent performance.
FELICITACIONES...MUY BIEN HECHO. saludos a mis venezolanos.
Wow, thanks for posting this! I remember hearing it at my schools' orchestra concert, and I had to use the riff that comes in around 0:18 or so to prove a point to a friend. Might I say, this is a very talented orchestra. Are you the conductor? If so, great job! I was appalled when I read that this was a youth symphony. These kids play like adults.
I rarely listen to classical music but... this music is just too beautiful. I don't even know what to say about it! It's too beautiful for words... im shocked from how wonderful it was.
Rarely have I heard this work played with such intensity. Just look at those young players move with the music! I am beginning to think that the center of the classical music world is not Vienna, New York nor London. It is Venezuela! Bravo, bravo

Yes, and it such an interesting puzzle.
I mean, I can understand the appeal of rational consctructions, such as serialism, the extraction of "core" notes and such.
But it is a cerebral thing.
Nothing wrong with it - I just don't think the brain is the natural domain of music.
So people are basically objecting to a NATURAL reaction to music.
