Hey DJPeteMarriott - yes the singer/talker stole lyrics from the choice mc's, but didn't confess untill the time came to assign the publishing ! - the other writer(me) was a little surprised. don't worry your guys got paid, or at least we didn't !
Cheers for the hook - peace and love and all that....
@SergeantSteezy YouTube won't let me post the link to the video so if you search YouTube for CHOICE M C - This is the B Side (Tony D Mix) (feat Akhenaton) 1988 - You will find it. Pay attention to the part of the 1st verse they took to make their hook.
@iamjs73 I've since then found out that I'm credited on the retail version of the album and BMI has since paid me years of publishing royalties so I have no beef with the band, they have done the right thing from the very beginning. The label on the other hand didn't do a proper job. The hook for Algebra comes from a line in the 1st verse.
@DJPeteMarriott Glad you sorted it out, Pete. As I said before, I'm kinda shocked that Maverick or Warner-Tamerlane didn't make more of an effort to track you down at the time. But better late than never, I suppose!
@DJPeteMarriott Hey Pete... just to clear something up... that one line ("You'll try to diss, take a crack at this, not algebra or calculus") was indeed taken from 'This Is The B-Side' - growing up it was one of my favourite rap tracks. But it wasn't meant as a steal... on the album you'll find that your track is fully credited (it says, "includes an interpolation of 'This Is The B-Side'" with writing credits) and we told the label (Maverick) to make this clear and inform the original writers...
@UKDaveJay Thanks for letting me know DaveJay. Maverrick has not been cooperative with us on this matter as we requested a CD copy of the both the album and single so we may figure out how this was cleared without our consent. I'm not mad at your song at all. I would've loved to at least had the opportunity to have remixed your song if I was alerted in the very first place. Perhaps we could collaborate on something fresh and new in the near future..
@DJPeteMarriott Sorry, Pete. We just took it that everything was above board and agreed. Does Maverick still exist? This track was done eight years ago (released 2002) and we were only on the label like a year before they chucked us off after the album bombed! So haven't had any contact with them since then. Sorry I can't help! And would've loved to have heard a remix by you. Dan The Automator did a remix but it was disappointing - sounded like he just took the money and ran!
@UKDaveJay Wow that's pretty disappointing to hear about Dan, his work is usually good stuff and I had no idea it was 8 years ago. It seems like Someone at Maverick or maybe Warner Bros. a label I was once signed to didn't do their job properly.
@DJPeteMarriott Well, Maverick was a pretty flakey label - a LOT of money being thrown about, but not a lot of good business sense being shown. It was, after all, no more than a vanity label (funny story: there was a poster in Guy Oseary's office that was signed by label head Madonna, "Justify my love and justify my investment, motherfucker!" - that tells you all you need to know!).
@UKDaveJay LOL! Madonna is wild! But that's all the labels to me. They don't give a shit about us artists as people or our art it's all about the bottom line to them and they will rape us all for as much as they get out of us or in most cases, willing to give them.

@DJPeteMarriott Cha Ching... Royalty Money... They used this on HBO on demand a number of years ago for the whole summer... Thats how i came across it
I bought this disk shortly after it was released back in 2002 after I heard this song. Never heard any other song off this disk getting any airtime; supprising, because the whole disk is really damm good.
I don't know what it is about this song...but I started to listen to it in 2003 when I was a freshman in highschool. Everytime I listen to this it takes me back to those times. I love it, I'm obviously STILL listening to it lol.
When I walk - I strut - just like this.. This bitch has been creepin' up into my play lists for many years now. If your gonna kick it - then kick it!. Algebra Kicks.

@MrRUSS808 Yes, they were very co-operative actually. According to them, they have been looking for us so everything will be settled in due time.
