Hi paul , held your scaffold pole last night ...now that is a rod and a half! Hope to get on beach with mark just after christmas if your up for a cod session let mark know.
hiya matejust wondering what tips you can give..i can do a pendulum cast but can only get about 160 any tips for getting abit furtheror tips on casting
@platesdog it`s all in the timing and should be smooth. No snatching and get the rod over the top and finishing at 45 degrees. Depending on your reel, have you tried taking the brakes off immediately after your cast? Go over the top, cast and release the brakes but beware as this can be birds nest city:) Good luck.
Casts from the side tend to be a lot flatter without the arc and are alot harder to control. Think of the javelin thrower coming over the top. You never see them throwing from the side. Try the South African cast first and you will see the distance you get coming over the top. Break up the pendulum by pushing the cast away first and then add the pendulum after without casting. Then put them all together. There are other vids you can see to explain more. Hope this helps.
i noticed someone asked what i was going to, as to why he brings it over the top rather than out the side... and you responded saying it creates more power.... but i still cant see how? if you swing out to the side, in a larger circle, you create more of a j-curve in your rod, so it whips more? thats how i see it anyway? are you able to provide info as to how it creates more power please? i want to master this cast, and pauls technique is good, but i just cant see how overhead does more power?
@psych0h0rse it is difficult but what you want at the end of the cast is a spear throwing technique. At the start of the cast the weight is swung back past you in an arc and then when it is at the 12 o`clock position it becomes weightless. This is the time that you start bringing the rod round, loading the rod, and strike into the spear throw. as you come over the top and release, the rod should be at a 45 degree angle which will give you the maximum distance. I`ll add more,
@HighBlackMagick It`s a good idea but would have to film over a number of days and we would need to catch some fish too:) Just a tip, if you do get a fish swallowing the hook then push your index finger down the shaft of the hook until you find the bend and push it down. You will find this releases the hook for you to pull it from the mouth and doing the least amount of damage. I hope that helps.
I wouldn't be standing on that side of someone when they are casting. Better to film from the other side. All it would take is for the spool to slip, or a wee nick in the shockleader.
@RaGexRayGun There are a few places that can be good. By the sanitation works at Langney. Splash point near the cafe and fort fun. The pier can be good. The wish tower at high tide can be great but you need to cast well. Pevensey Bay is pretty good in shorter tides and all the highs. The seafront about 500 yards east of the pier opp the waterfront pub/hotel. Mackerel are still showing if you want to chuck feathers and schoolies are showing so their big brothers should be here soon:) good luck.
@dizzyspliff yep, he is. Some cast round the side but more power is generated over the top and it is more accurate if you`re casting to a specfic point.
paul was aboxer before casting? :-)
