i think the lady in the video made a simple mistake by saying Herkimer Diamonds are the hardest crystals. i'm sure she meant to say that they are the hardest quartz crystals.
I think these comments are true. I thought Herkimer ny was the only place to get hem but u can get them in other areas. Another thing is that they arent the hardest crystal in teh world. And one thing they forgot ot mention. I went years ago and not only did i get these herkimers but there was a chance i got a black one. It was so beautiful way better looking but slipped out of my hand and fell deep into thils large boulder rock..i was so pissed.
It is true that there are double enders found in other parts of the world, but: Herkimer are the "highest quality" concerning brilliance and shape, also sometimes with caracteristic tiny inlays of carbon and "cluster-like" arrangements of a bunch of crystals. Beside that they have excellent positive (healing) effects, one of most powerful of all gems just second to the "real" diamond itself... a company in switzerland "charge" them with star light...
1. Double-terminated quartz has been found pretty much all over the world (in other words, Herkimer, NY is NOT the only place in the world you can find these crystals)
2. The lady in the shop saying it's the hardest crystal in the world. Diamonds are the hardest natural crystal on the planet. If "Herkimer diamonds" were the hardest crystal they'd stop using real diamonds for industrial applications and use these. Either she's lying to get business or she's been lied to.
@0sM1093 She isnt saying DT Quartz is only found in Herkimer, the crystals from this region are famous for their high clarity, gemmy brightness, perfect form and naturally smooth shiny facets making them the best examples of small 'diamond' quartz.
She may have not included Diamonds because they are seen as Gem stones, in the semi precious crystals catagory these would be the hardest crystal.
"The only place in the world where you can uncover your very own Herkimer Diamonds"
I say again: double terminated quartz crystals have been unearthed in other parts of the planet, long before this program aired. They are the same no matter where you go, it's the same process of formation in dolostone.
And no, 3:05 she specifically said "it's the hardest crystal in the world." Diamonds are crystals. Don't take my word for it, ask a geologist, or look it up.
@0sM1093 Yes that’s correct the “HERKIMER” mines are the only place in the world you can find genuine “HERKIMER” Diamonds. Similar types of quartz are found at other locations and often sold as a HERKIMER Diamonds, when that’s not the true origin of the stone. There are grades of gems and crystals.
Im not disputing diamonds are crystals in formation but the term ‘crystal’ Is rarely used to classify gem stones in the mineral and gem industry. You could always ask her.

Two issues:
1. Double-terminated quartz has been found pretty much all over the world (in other words, Herkimer, NY is NOT the only place in the world you can find these crystals)
2. The lady in the shop saying it's the hardest crystal in the world. Diamonds are the hardest natural crystal on the planet.
