  • i love how on the second note of the song everybody starts cheering caus they already know its sober

  • "can't believe" lolz

  • Foxcore074, you're the first person Ive ever seen with both top comments. I applaud you, sir.

  • @Conaan70 you are the first person I've ever violated on youtube so I want this moment to be special for both of us though I have you tied to a chair and no hard feelings about the broken legs I hope I just couldn't risk you running away and telling the police about the chinese sweatshop I'm running out of my mothers basement. oh and ps I have aids sorry :(

  • 71 people are imbeciles

  • Go on some board and argue Jesus enjoy the music. I love tool and I think this is fucking fantastic cover. I am not as big of Aaron Lewis' music. I do like that country boy song surprisingly, I loved old staind when they were more raw and charged. I will still say Aaron Lewis is one of the most talented vocalists we have had in our generation. But either way the reality about selling out and nonsense, we all sellout unless we are volunteers . We do our jobs to make money. Bottom line.

  • @ozzy7455 im down with that, great cover and money makes the world go round.

  • the ultimate suck

  • This is already Intense as the song goes. Lewis adds somethin more to it. Its brilliant. Simply brilliant. Makes me wonder what a duet with Maynard and Lewis would be like on this song. If only right?

  • yawn zzzzzzzz

  • haha i LOVE the reaction of the first guy to realize what he was playing!!

    "YYYEEEEEAAAAHHHH!!!!"

  • Aaron Lewis will say or do literally anything if he thinks it will make him money. If you don't believe me listen to his new song "Country Boy". If you still don't see that he's just another cog in the corporate wheel making music that is devoid of artistic merit, there might not be any kind of help for you.

  • @evolution4648 listen to BTBAM, there's all the artistic merit you could ever want lmao...

  • "Aaron Lewis is a big phony.

It's easy to trash Springfield when you have millions of dollars to buy lots of land & isolate yourself from all the "god forsaken" people. Many of the same people who supported Staind in the clubs of Springfield before they made it big.

Easy to take shots at Fred Durst....bet he wasn't feeling that way all those years ago when Fred helped him get the big break & helped produced Stainds first major album.

You arent fooling anyone "country boy".

    hazynight 8/22/11

  • A corporate music shill with no soul. Humanity can do without this jerk-off. Oh the irony. He's covering a TOOL song, and TOOL warns about assholes like this in so many of their songs. A symptom of our rapidly declining culture and imminent crash of the empire that this asswipe gets a million views and nobody even knows who Townes Van Zandt is. "MOM PLEASE FLUSH IT ALL AWAY"

  • the audience needs to SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!111

  • No soul... This is a cheap imitation- nothing more than parroting. It's a shame what will pass for talent these days as Aaron Lewis makes millions while Blaze Foley slept in a dumpster, for instance. TOOL would never compromise their art for any price... none of those guys. If you think this guy here has a soul maybe you should check out his country stuff. Not trying to hate, just trying to offer my opinion to all of you of the difference between what's real and what's counterfeit.

  • @evolution4648 have you not heard hooker with a penis... tool openly admits to selling out

  • @psaionyx that's NOT what that song is about. However you want to view it. Tool has never compromised their art. Pick any Tool song and contrast that with "Country Boy" and this will illustrate the difference that I'm trying to help you see. Check out that Country Boy song by Aaron Lewis and let me know what you think? Would Tool ever write something that cheap and disposable? Let those with eyes, see.

  • @evolution4648 oh you mean how he didn't invest his time in staind which is far more succesfull, but went on to do something new that he wanted to do, country(not best the way to make money)That's proof of artist honesty and integrity, not sticking with something that works and sells, but trying new things.Have you even listened to lyrics that this man writes, being that honest is hard to do, you would know that if you ever wrote a song, or better yet, played it live for strangers

  • @cipovic77 Aaron Lewis:

    1. IS recording another album with Staind

    2. Openly admitted to selling his soul in LA with Staind, and has made the move on to country music where he has now again sold his soul in Nashville with the intention of making even more money. You're wrong- there's lots of money to be made.

    3. Wrote the song "Country Boy" which earned the title of 7th worst song of 2010 in the Village Voice.

If you like the song "Country Boy", that's all I need to know

  • @evolution4648 have you listened to the new album? not really sell out material

and it's moronic to think that you can get signed, get payed, and do whatever you want, with the record company letting you do that

besides even the first 2 albums, while dark and heavy in music, lyrics are quite similar like the ones in more "pop" songs from latter albums, the only thing that changed is that aaron got older, and is less angry, something i hope to become

  • @evolution4648 i haven't really listened to his country album so...

but tool, every album sound more or less the same, same old recipe, sort of like ac dc, works, no denying that, but still repetitive. Great lyrics though, but not as honest when it comes to personal experience, more about ideology and story telling, also while being honest, but there is a difference between eddie veder lyrics and maynards lyrics. listen to both, broaden your "high level of music appreciation"

  • @evolution4648 oh, and as for "selling out", /watch?v=jKXr40gl9_k

not really selling out, but you get the poing

oh and i forgot to mention, also check out damien rice

  • @cipovic77 You make a dangerous assumption in thinking I do not speak from experience, have never written songs, and have never played them for strangers. The big picture here I think is that people who like Aaron Lewis do not possess a high level of music appreciation. It's just a symptom of our rapidly declining culture in America and as a species. To each his own though. I recommend Tool, Bill Hicks, and psilocybin mushrooms until you see the difference. You can do it.

  • @evolution4648 oh, i see now... you're the pretentious misantropic dude saying to use drugs that alter reality and enhance the subjective, in order to experience the world as it is. Man o man do i hate people like you. I listen to tool, but don't worship them, which is the difference between us. You probably heard of Hicks becouse of them, right? What else do you listen to?

  • @cipovic77 Personal attacks aren't the brightest way to augment your shitty, contrived, pre-packaged and un-thought out arguments. Especially when the person you're attacking just wants to get his point across. I find it odd you have to look to a username for the answers, but then again that's the sensible resolution for a person who denies all logic. And don't try to backpedal back to the discussion after a personal attack. You may apologize or just shut your pie hole. Thanks!

  • @evolution4648 they weren't personal attacks, you just percived them that way. I didn't use your username for answers but for reference, whis is sort of obvious, like the fact that you haven't made a single argument... And more than anything, your a hypocrite for saying my argument are unthought and prepackaged. Besides you ignored all argument that i have made, declared them bullshit allmost precognitive, like your opinion was "pre-packaged and un-thought out"

  • @evolution4648 because it seems as though you follow a pattern, that you molded your self in, the uncool kid that is different, and doesn't give a shit about the world. There isn't a decline, people were always stupid and thrived for conformity. Why? The answer is in your username. And music is a way to achive that, like the unifing hate for bieber, do you think people in the prior decades listend to zepplin and others becouse they were good, or because they were popular?

  • @cipovic77 In all of your infinite wisdom why don't you teach us all how we may come to learn everything about a person from their youtube username? Did you learn that from the same person who told you that Aaron Lewis has talent? Too bad you are too busy running your god damn mouth to go do your fucking homework like I told you to. The name of the song is "Country Boy".

  • @evolution4648 and then you assert your dominance after again falsely deducing i formed my opinion based on your username and not your coments which i actually read and considered, by telling me "to go do your fucking homework like I told you to" which is an indicator of insecurity, which the fact that you completely subjectivly percived my coments, just proves my point. I was hoping for a nice debate, but i see you're a moron like the ones you hate yourself, so farewell

  • @cipovic77 in the larger picture you won't be able to dismiss me as a moron but you'll be welcomed to explain to me why an original artist plays so many cover songs and sells his soul for money while writing the song "Country Boy". Best holiday wishes.

  • @evolution4648 he pays homage to his influences, he doesn't play with a playlist, people yell songs, he plays them, he didn't make an album with other artists songs to sell. Country boy is a song of him talking about himself and his beliefs. You thinking it's him selling out, is your opinion, he does say he sold out, and after he sings what the devil from la told him to do, he didn't do it. Don't take evrything literally, besides the mere act of singing with a label is selling out

  • @cipovic77 you did not admit to catching on to him pandering to a common demographic there, but I'd be willing to bet that you did catch it. I have to call it like it is as I see it... not true talent, but a weak vestige of teenage angst clinging to the hope of a demographic dollar. Fuck this pussy.

  • @cipovic77 you just put your stamp on the song I asked you about, and that's all I need to know. Also he was not so against government holding his hand when he pleaded to keep his daughter's public school open to prevent her from having to go to an inner city school. I'd rather you see everything for what it is than come around to my way of thinking. I've spent enough time with this pussy and those willing to make personal attacks on his behalf. Peace!

  • @evolution4648 which is why he organized a concert to raise funds.

the problem is you, you hypocritical ignorant moron. EVERYONE is a hypocrite, even you. Maynard was in the army, why? To be able to support his art. Doesn't change the fact he was in the army. He also acts, and sells wine. YOU are the reason he hates his fans. You think your smart becouse you listen to tool, you fucking moron. You dont even think about what you say, just read your comments, at WHAT YOU SAID

  • @evolution4648 no more comments for my side, not gonna waste my time explaining something to someone who sees what he wants to see. Just read what I said before in a few years, and then slap yourself.

  • @evolution4648 When you sign they give you a list of what to change, i heard Shaun Morgan saying that, from loosing weight, to teeth to clothes... You eventually have to give something to get back artistic freedom, to think otherwise is stupid. NO ONE will give you money and say, yeah do what ever the fuck you want, we dont care how much money you make...

  • @cipovic77 grammatical errors notwithstanding

  • @evolution4648 and listen to, if you already haven't, to soundgarden, aic, pearl jam, the grunge scene and that, even nirvana, for the emotional rawness

and nice to see someone not bashing fred durst, but honestly the new album gold cobra is SHIT lyricly, but listen to the unqestionable truth album, amazing lyrics, sad he doesnt write songs like that anymore, wes borland still kicking as though

  • This guy is fucking amazing!

  • Pure emmotion Aaron put to this song. He does awsome to covering TOOL, Not many people can pull off what he did in this cover

  • lmao thats y JT grew his beard out

  • listen to all those disrespectful people on the audio... nice

  • Jan 12th 2012...come faster.

  • @jameson63926 i thought it was the 25th of 2012

  • @holdonasec78 Well, I've got 3 tickets to the Verizon center in Houston Jan 12th, so... *crosses fingers* =)

  • In Japan, the fans watch MMA fights in silence..I wish we would do the same for small venues...

  • this song gives me a boner every time

  • @foxcore074 Then you got problems!

  • the only person that it is ok to cover a tool song everyone else should never get near a tool song at all

  • @l1m0b0at

took the words right out of my mouth

  • maynard james keenan would be proud

  • @foxcore074 maynard has no emotion hes the only one in the band that cares only for himself and his tour manager. Danny is the one that would be proud, lol

  • wow!

  • I love this man!

  • Wow, aaron has an amazing voice, im so looking forward to seeing him again, hes worth every penny! He did maynard justice!

  • @SouthernSniper74 pics or shens

  • Wonderful I loved that perfect sound

    Smooth as 86proof

Tool should be very happy !

You kept it close to the vest

  • as a tool-head that recently bashed the FUCK out of breaking benjamins covers, and someone who was VERY critical going into this song, I gotta say WOW this is fucking garbage, just kidding you know what I didnt expect aaron lewis' voice to fit but even though its deeper it fits, I garuntee he could NEVER EVER do a maynard scream tho... thats should be copywritten to maynard...

All in all I was pleasantly surprised and quite impressed I must say, and I really do think this was well done.

  • @bcchronicking agreed!

  • Amazing.....Not maynard But equally goosefleshes from it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Aaron himself says he is not a good guitarist, he finds the easiest way for him to play a song but it works, his acoustic set is amazing and he does a excellent job at covers. Aaron is truely a great performer all around.

  • great job.....

  • I love how half way through the song everyone stops yelling and just listens in awe.

  • im in awe. im such a crazy tool fan, i didnt think anyone could ever or would ever even attempt to cover one of their songs, but aaron lewis proved me wrong. great job!

  • lol 2 notes in and they know what the fuck is up!

  • 0.0

     0

  • @BornQueen You have no idea how happy I was to see that you like Hurt as well as Staind and Tool. Rock on bruh \m/ d(^_^)b \m/

  • 0:08 ??? what did the fan said?

  • manyard is litteraly a genius like he has his top degree is psychology so litteraly makes him a genius..but arron lewis has that certian rough grungeness that makes it his own. both jaw droping amazing..esp. just acoustic

  • @TheJoshw1989 A doctorate does not make you a genius..

  • damn

  • chills.

  • so fucking awesome... His voice is phenominal. Not many people can cover a tool song and pull off the vocals, but Aaron did it very very well!

  • his voice is fucking intense as hell. its so awesome

  • Implying Maynard isn't a master.

  • I'm so completely in love with him and his music, it's not even fair lol....i promised my cousin Mikey I would do a cover of this version of the song but I picked one of THEIR songs to do instead. I really hope they come out with something new soon because I'm having withdrawls

  • i wonder what maynard thinks

  • @cuzzomatt He'd probably talk all kinds of shit about it.

  • wow. unimaginable

  • I can't believe the hate he's getting here. This is a cover and he fucking sang that song. No sense in being a hater.

  • Aaron is just an amazing artist in itself. He took his god given talent and ran with it. Idk how anyone can dislike his music, I honestly think they dislike him out of jealousy becanse they have no talent at all and they wish they could be him.

  • @boosted21psi LOL what a reach, really your comment was worse than some of the hating... cmon dude ... grasping at straws

  • Mediocre recording but an awesome performance captured!!!

  • such a powerful voice to cover such a powerful song. Well played Aaron Lewis

  • check my cover out

  • This is a REALLY good cover.

  • I'm sorry but Maynard is a God compared to Aaron Lewis. I like him and all, but Maynard writes the lyrics for a reason.

  • @TheCrayolaJonson

You don't think people have an appreciation for Tool? This is just a cover, he's not trying to imitate anyone. He's taking an original, and great work, and giving his own interpretation. I swear, there's always a bunch of people in cover videos pissing and moaning how great the original was. Okay, we get it. Both of these musicians are talented, and not everyone on this goddamned planet needs to constantly be compared.

  • I didn't know much about Aaron Lewis, same as Staind, but I got to admit, as a big fan of Tool & Maynard, that's the best cover of Tool I ever heard! But now that I heard this, I absolutly have to hear more of him...

  • He did such a great job.

  • I got the chills instantly. Aaron Lewis is a genius!

  • there is no song out there that aaron could not make sound amazing who cares about the lyrics you guys are lame hes aaron freaking lewis he can say what he wants

  • If anyone was gonna sing a Maynard song, especially SOBER, it would be Aaron Lewis, he has an amazing voice, one of my favorite songs by him is "OUTSIDE", I can relate to this song cuz my whole life is on the outside and I am desparately trying to look in, introspectively and find my lost self again, by taking the Middle Path and detachment, so fuck these right-wing & left-wing extremists, fundamental born-again Christians shoving what we don't want shoved, down our so far from virgin throats!!!

  • Oh man this video gives me chills when he began to sing sober! I love it!

  • good stuff

  • I wish the crowd didn't randomly yell over his singing throughout the video. The guy yelling woo should be punched in the mouth.

  • thx for uploading! really enjoyed it

btw: we did a acoustic cover of schism, maybe you guys find time to watch and tell us what you think about i

  • @nucleartofu pretty good, man.

  • Not a hardcore fan of Staind (of Tool though) but Aaron sure has a powerful voice.

  • @MrKillu405 You sir, are a retard. Nuff said

  • @MrKillu405 Don't act like a badass. Save your false angst for your mommy and daddy because they drive your pimpled ass around in a minivan. I was simply correcting your mistake. I was pretty nice about it. Don't act like your a hard ass because your behind a screen.Did your mommy not hug you enough? Maybe your dad hugged you too much?Anyway when you leave your parents basement you will still be a little fag and NO you apparently don't know what you are talking because you were wrong.

  • @MrKillu405 Your thinking of Daughtry. He was in American Idol not Lewis.

  • I just hate how crowds never know when to shut up and listen. damn....

  • Aaron fucked the lyrics up but that does not mean anything! It's his version of Sober by Tool!

  • @MrKillu405 I agree, except that he can sing, i hate the man, but his AIC, PJ and Tool covers are great imo and a few staind songs are cool too

  • @MrKillu405 i must agree awesome artist ive seen him twice with staind and twice by himself and i got say id rather hear him pick and sing

  • yarak var bağırıyosunuz amına koyim.

  • SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!

    ╭∩╮(︶︿︶)╭∩╮

  • To me it's amazing you can have such an epic song with like only 2 chords!

  • @KweefBro lol,cant believe u said this.

  • uncle tool sucks

  • I love the country inflection injected into a Tool song. Definetly gives a new perspective on a classic.

  • I hate the people shouting all the time xD

  • awesome i never heard a cover of this song before but this cover is awesome'

  • Absolutely FUCKING AMAZING!!! Maynard and Aaron are two of my personal favorite lyricists/vocalists. This is such an amazing cover to this song!!!! I love how you can truly feel that he has such a personal connection to the lyrics of this song... you can just feel by the way he moves, his expressions, his style of structure he plays the song, the tones he sings it in are soooo heart felt and many different things! Such a dark, beautiful twist to such an amazing song! LOVE IT!!!!!!!

  • I came to this video expecting failure boy was i wrong

  • hummmmm whre can I find the tab or guitar pro...... cant seem to find a good version ah yeah and that guy who yells " believe" grow a pair!!!

  • @KweefBro im a rockies fan myself...

  • @KweefBro you proved nothing

  • @KweefBro yes among other things.

  • I love how so many people pretend to know the artists pain and what not. In fact I find it fucked up how they even sympathize with it, yet in reality they are causing someone in their life serious pain too, no doubt! Its what we all do!!!

  • @KweefBro breaking benjamin blows horse cock

  • WOAH.. That is great.. There are not many out there I would trust or even want to cover Tool, but that is very impressive. Impressed much.

  • Tool Poetry Played by a master....= GREATNESS

  • @TH33N71GHT3N3D1 AARON LEWIS+TOOL= PERFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TH33N71GHT3N3D1 - DAMN! You got that right! Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love tool and i like staind very much.. aaron lewis has a great voice, and only this but every song he sings he sings it from the bottom af his heart, he totally nailed it.

  • This is a prime example why I get into fights at small concerts. The croud sucks. A guy behind me was yelling at the singer telling him what to sing and when he didn't he booed I stood up to block his view untill he said shit to me and one light punch behind the ear and he stfu the rest of the show. His girl was looking at me with sparkels in her eyes. To bad I was with a girl or I would of loved to fuck her and make him smell my finger.

  • @Lvduggo69 lawl hahahaha thats funny I beat the shit outta some dude and his old lady did the same thing funny shit she knew he deserved it I i've never smacked a motherfucker that didn't deserve it.

  • in the studio version he sounds just like maynard

  • I am a Devout Tool fan, I must say i like his cover. It dosnt seem to matter that hes changed the Lyrics. The feeling that pours out of him is quite something.

  • goosebumps....

  • @thortrucker me too and the only reason you have them is because you like tool ~ dont forget it

  • Now I have seen TOOL many a times live as well as STAIND. To be honest you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger TOOL fan but Aaron Lewis sounds so much better live. IMO

  • the original puts a tear in my eye, and so does this..... he nailed it and the only person ive heard do better is Maynard.

  • Awsome

  • helluva job! dont get it twisted Aaron lewis is a tool fan thats why he sung this song! of course the original is fucking classic! this is just aaron letting you know he's just as much of a fan as we all are of this great song! not many could pull this shit off! not many would even attempt it! god i miss good music!

  • @Toyotamasher so true.

  • Sounds just as good or better that original

  • @Toyotamasher Meh. I don't think so but he is awesome. These Tool covers are giving me much more respect for him and Ben from Breaking Benjamin. Awesome stuff.

  • sings it better then tool themselfs!

  • @DCC350 You are a damn fool

  • @DCC350 no one on planet earth can live up to Maynard

  • i actually like this, not as much as the original

  • 54 people are really tools themselves

  • retards,

  • he may not have gotten all the lyrics right but this is the best cover for sober you will probably ever hear....so stop being retard you dumb fucks, not saying that to be mean; just want everyone to realize how amazing he really is

  • I love how a large act or "star" such as the lead singer from Staind, would and does pay homage to his brethren/sisters with covering their songs. We all should remember our root and pay homage to them. Good on ya Aaron! Keep it coming!

  • I'm not really into Aaron Lewis or Staind but Tool is my fave band so I had 2 check this out. And it's quite Alright. Rock On people!

  • HE KINDA LOOKS LIKE KEVIN JAMES...LOL

  • Aaron is the most versatile singer on the market. Seriously amazing pipes, and I agree with 74knuckles...he undoubtedly changed the lyrics to suit him.

  • 54 people are mouth breathers

  • @jwparamore MOUTH BREATHERS LMAO!!!

  • I love Aaron Lewis, I think he has one of the best voices out there atm, I just wish he got the dam words right. either way this was a cool cover

  • I'd probably complain about the changed lyrics if I could make them out.

  • stop bitching over the lyrics and stand up and deliver a better version of sober... oh right. aaron fucking killed it. that's right. maybe the guy just has trouble getting the lyrics spot on when he sings other ppl's songs and he's probly had a few drinks and is emotional and in the performance zone? or as others have said perhaps he changed them intentionally? who gives a fuck. he killed it and you know he did so stop bitching

  • Wow, so many comments on the lyrics... If you are a fan of his you would KNOW that he is a troubled man who has worked through many horrendous obstacles in his life, his childhood being the major component. OF COURSE he changed the lyrics on purpose, to better suit his life. Isnt that what lyrics are for? To tell a story, or express emotions? I think so, yes

  • @74knuckles

Aaron didn't have "Horrendous obstacles" . He deserves props, but come on it's not like he was Jackie Robinson.

  • @74knuckles Stop trying to act like you know him. Aaron Lewis is the man. Who cares about the lyrics.

  • @74knuckles exactly aaron lewis is a monster nd some people dont get wat hes been through so they dont get y he changes the lyrics in my opinion i like his version better no disrespect to tool i love them nd the original i just love aaron lewis' better

  • @74knuckles

'i think no. He is just one of the moronic sheople.

  • @74knuckles Lyrics are meaningless if changed.

  • @dujl Lyrics aren't meaningless if changed.

  • @Alex8018 If the original meaning is lost, then they are, because that ruins the song.

  • @dujl the meaning of lyrics to individuals can be different, does that make them meaningless if different people intrepret them differently? absolutely not. so to change them a bit to more appropriately suit a situation is fine. its a beautiful cover of an already beautiful song.

  • @jayball2003 Well, let's reduce that absurdly, shall we? If the lyrics can be anything to the individual, that means the lyrics do not matter, and could be anything right?

No. Artistic originality is a great thing.

  • I think he changed up the lyrics because 1.) he's either chistian. Or somthing between him and his mom was bad when he was a child.
