  • Kind of ironic considering how hilarious the show is. Then again, it does have it's sad moments.

  • MASH

  • We all got to die sometime :-/

  • My childhood.

  • Tnx,for this upload :)

  • The best short song ever made. Although the era was met for the Korea war the timing could not have a more crucial point in the 70's when the Vitnam war was at its worse. That is the true defination of irony right there

  • @ZuDarkness666 Actually, it's the true definition of allegory. There's no way the show wasn't really about Vietnam. But no network would actually run a show about Vietnam (same deal for books and movies) so Korea was used as a sort of front.

  • The theme song added to the untouchable success of the series Mash.

  • goodbye cruel world ...

  • family guy brought me here

  • I sing this song when I'm sad XP

  • damn,i'm depressed now. just heard a good friend had 6 bypasses. he's doing ok,but why do we have to endure such pain? life is a cruel joke being played on all of us.

"no one here gets out alive".

  • @12161euclid "no one here gets out alive"

Think about that. Really think about it. It may sound like a tragic unavoidable truth, but it's actually pretty stupid. Gets out from what? Life? Why would you want to get out of life, what's the point? Get out of life, and into what? Also, it's freaking obvious! "no one here gets out alive" I read that in a joke book. Yeah, no shit, it's 'cause they're dead! We continue living until we die.

  • @felynecomrade i think morrison simply meant we can't cheat death. you may be able to avoid it longer than some like in the case of my friend who had heart surgery, but it's gonna get you eventually. it's a foregone conclusion from the moment we take our first breath. the only question is "when?",and the older you get the scarier that becomes.

  • @12161euclid That last statement isn't necessarily true. A lot of people don't care when they die. In the words of Sam Halpern: "When I die, I die. I could give a shit, 'cause it ain't my problem. I'd just rather not shit my pants on the way there."

Anyway, if you're worried by these thoughts, talk to me, I might be able to help. I've done a shitload of thinking about this stuff, I've got a lot of theorys. What to you believe happens after we die?

  • @felynecomrade what i believe happens when we die is we leave behind loved ones to grieve. i've experienced a lot of that grief in my life, and i'm sorry my passing may someday have to affect my loved ones that way. as for what happens to ME? do any of us really know? some say we rot in the ground (or get burnt up and become a display on someone's mantlepiece),others think we go to one place or another. the truth is i have no idea, and now that i have more time behind me than ahead,it's scary.

  • @12161euclid It seems to me you believe there's nothing after death. Well think of it this way... Nothing is, by definition, nothing. That means that whatever your interpretation of nothing is, it's wrong. Nothing is generally viewed as total darkness and silence, but darkness and silence are things. If you believe that this world is the only world, then you believe that we were nothing before birth. All of us were born from a state of nonexistance into life. Why can't it happen again?

  • @felynecomrade i don't believe there's nothing...i just don't know. i'd love to believe we are reuntied with those that went before, but there's no conclusive evidence. it's all based on hope. i'd also like to believe we can "come back" somehow. death seems like it'll be a mysterious, dark hallway. is there anything at the end of that hallway? a door to another reality perhaps? one can only hope.

  • emo is just a newer version of corn chip(and possibly many other brooding type personality classifications through history).This history will continue to repeat even after the emos have gone. {and yeah... this song is very 'emo' but more aged and classic than the 'emo' name/term}

  • Im only 14 so i have never seen the show, but i was watching family guy when this song came on and i youtubed it. This song is hauntingly beautiful.

  • C'mon guys.. What's wrong with being emo? Afterall they are people too.Shut the hell up & enjoy the music.. Geez.

  • I feel this song

  • This made me smile xD

  • Okay, this is emo. You can think otherwise if you want, but you're wrong. This is emo.

  • @felynecomrade So? Music is meant to evoke an emotional response therefore all music is EMO.

  • @weebeastiebaby While that may be technically true, this is the stereotyped emo. The brooding, whining, wrist-slashing emo. That's what this is.

  • @felynecomrade dead wrong bro, you are DEAD wrong

  • @Panmiroeins If this isn't emo, then what is it? There is no positive message here. The lyrics say that life is a pointless time of constant pain and suffering, and the only way out is to kill yourself. Emo.

  • @felynecomrade Put into context, the show is about people coping in a war situation, compared to todays 'Emos' what do they have to fight against ??? Having their hair colour decided ??? Just sayin !!

  • @andyb7274 I'm talking about the song, not M*A*S*H*.

  • who the hell would dislike this.

  • You know this isn't as bad as you first think. I don't like the falsetto chorus but it does have something profound to say, bit like the movie really. The guitar is beautful.

  • pretty deep stuff

  • It's a song about how people allow the lives of others to be painful. That there is pain in every life and that suicide is the quickest way to end that pain.

    Spread some love. Peace.

  • I don't understand why this was a theme song for a tv program. Am I missing something?! :-p

  • @Jenni07944 What you need to realize is that the tv show was based on a movie of the same name. The song was from a key moment in the movie. If you have the chance, watch the movie. The show was about a M.A.S.H. unit during the Vietnam War. And even though it was more comedic than what one would expect, it dealt with very serious issues that affected soldiers during that time. I believe that once you watch the movie (and the entire tv series) you'll get a better understanding of why it works.

  • @TheJBPapaSim The show took place in Korea, bud...

  • Comment removed

  • @redreaper2020 There are more than a handful of episodes that directly state they are in korea or mention a location in Korea. off the top of my head, in the episode where Radar gets wounded Hawkeye has the line "Well, I always wanted to barf on wijambu and I just thought the time was ripe"

Spelling may be totaly wrong for Wijambu, but the point stands

  • @TheDSS64 The setting of the tv show -and the movie- were during the Korean War; however, the show was aired while the Vietnam War was in progress and was as much a commentary about the Vietnam War as the Korean War.

  • @TheJBPapaSim The movie was Korea too. It came out during Viet Nam. The TV show may have started while we were still in "Nam" but the powers that be were trying to play an end game and get out. By 1975 we were essentially out of Viet Nam, only to go play around in Afghanistan 4 years later. That one really bit us in the ass. The TV show lasted over 4x longer than the Korean war which was over in about 2 years. In essence war sucks, but I fear we will always be at war with someone.

  • @Satchmoeddie War is too damned profitable for the entrenched wealth and power in any nation or state. Look at the Great Depression - it is commonly claimed that the Second World War revitalized not only the economy of America but also of the Soviet Union and many other Allied Nations. Had the Axis Powers won the war, they would have reaped the same rewards but at a ghastly, immeasurable human cost. War will always be profitable for the victor - history dating from Antiquity has proven that.

  • @Jenni07944 It was a Movie First.

  • The greatest song from serial soundtracks

  • Amazing song !!!

  • so many people comment on this video about how sad it is and about how it's a reflection on the artitst's experiences, the pains we all have to endure. Did anyone other than me consider than maybe it's just a song? Not everything needs to have such deep meaning.

  • If anyone killed themselves "because of this song" the reasons were certainly far more deep seeded. If a song is all it takes to push one over the edge, than the "edge" was there long before.........

  • is suicide painless?

  • I wonder if anyone killed themselves because of this song.

  • @0coldfinger0

    Let's hope so.

  • Comment removed

  • @0coldfinger0 gets me thinking...

  • M*A*S*H

  • Wow. It sure is funny reading the comments from people who understand absolutely nothing about this song, which was written for a war movie! The song is NOT about suicide. The song is a commentary about the wastefulness of war and the effects that it has on the survivors of war.

  • @jvidell interesting interpretation of this song that you have.

  • Painless? Who knows. Anyone remember seeing those poor people on 9/11 jumping out of those burning buildings? There you have it, just the lesser of two evils I suppose.

  • suicide is not painless to the ones who are left behind

  • is there a remix u know like a 2010 remix!

  • eerie song..

  • I THINK IS A GREAT SONG!!

  • just a tear ...falling as i heard this song for the very first time

  • suicide is NOT painless

  • @M3LGIBSON4EVER Its hell of a lot less painfull than many situations in life. Stop being a naive moron.

  • i just may

  • in the Untold Stewie Griffin story: drunken Stewie does a funny version of this.....quality song tho.

  • @blakeclark3 family guy is gay now please stop relating good songs to a dumb show

  • @mregoproductions : actually i wasn't relating....i was informing....i love this song. Always have. Stop sending out negative vibes, please. They tend to just return to the source anyways.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, the song was on TV. However, it was a much more upbeat version. What you have here is from the 1970 movie. Much more somber.

  • Love this song since I was a kid...

but, since 7th Grade, when I FINALLY heard it with the lyrics, I've loved it even more =D

well, I'm 22 now, and since 7th Grade, every time I hear Kansas' "Dust In The Wind" I've ALWAYS followed it up with "Suicide Is Painless,"

all versions are pretty good, but nothing's as good as the original... closest to being almost there is the one by The Manic Street Preachers

  • This song was definitely well written. It shows everyone that, while life is hard, the choice to go on with life or not is ours and ours alone, and that no matter what choice we make that there are going to be many different changes that will happen afterwords for everyone.

  • @AndremoThe2nd it was written by a 13 yr old kid

  • It almost sounds happy.

  • @newpa1n if you watch the movie's commentary it said that it was made as a joke but fit the opening scene so they used it.

  • love tune / words disturbing

  • it's not that disturbing really. it's a commentary from someone who maybe has seen the world differently than the rest of us and wanted to share that viewpoint with others. sometimes hearing other peoples views bring comfort. makes us feel not so alone, or that there are others out there that understand and feel the same way. hearing the words really make you reflect and deeply consider the things that truly matter in life.

  • @anglicky69

Life and the mandatory death are disturbing. By comparison, suicide -- electing to leave life a little earlier than the inevitable, unalterable harsh reality -- is NOTHING.
