Wow, what a joke. Do NOT expect this kind of work if you hire an arborist guys. I think fhqwgads2 covered most of it. Couldn't see any hearing protection there either, not to mention having gear wrapped around your neck during the ascent... I know we all started somewhere but I would kick my guys asses if I knew they were doing this kind of stuff on the week-ends.
This video is a joke, right? No helmet, no glasses, no climb line, one-handed cuts, leaving stubs, spiking a prune, using a LADDER (pussy), damaging property, letting the saw idle... I hope no one paid more than $10/hour for this redneck.
Yeah, not good to spike a tree you're not felling. Those spikes create small wounds that can cause rot pockets and harm the tree in the long term. But I used to do that too before I knew better. There is always an expert that say's... 'What you should have done.. yah de yah'
just an observation here. i have cut trees for over 30 years, i have owned & operated buckets, had nearly every piece of rigging equip. made, and even made a few items for my self. it is not the equip that a person has, but the skill with which they r used, that at the end of the day determines success or disaster. sire, he should have tied the limb off 3' farther out, then it would not have "raked" the antenna, but overall, kudos should be given to him, he did fairly well
@limbwalker273020 Agreed. I see a lot wrong too like not endercutting to avoid tearing etc etc. But it's all nitpicking really. There's a lot of others ripping this guy to shreds but I think that's harsh. I have no doubt that you, the same as me have seen a hell of a lot worse than this guy. I saw a guy with no PPE suicide cut an oak tree about six foot thick with an old 090 with no chain brake. Makes this guy look like he wrote the book on technique.
Agree there are a lot of "Rambo" type "tree cutters" out there that give professional arborists a bad name...but as a professional horti guy with 40 yrs and having hired a lot of arborists to do a job I was not insured for , I must say that more often then not it is the customers fault. The customer wants to pay cash...hires a guy for less. The guy (and the customer) has no insurance . He quite often does not have the proper tools (bucket lift, down rigs.safety harness etc). Can you see the mess?
LOOOOOOL someone is a scared pussy and doesn't wanna limbwalk. USE A FUCKING CLIMBING ROPE retard. if you cant climb with rope access get out of the tree. and know what leanr from a real pro how to rig properly. turn the damn saw off when your not using it
should be retitled how not to cut down a tree.Leave it to the professionals like me especially as you don't have any PPE (personal protection equipment) Cutting far to large pieces of at one time im amazed you didn't kill yourself.silly Americans
He must be a Squirrel. I/ve never seen a squirrel with a Hard Hat,Eye and ear protection or Chainsaw chaps! And that ladder had to save him 8ft of tough climbing.
Everytime I watch one of these it astounds me. Does anyone put up a video of tree work being done correctly...man! Also if he was taking the tree done why would he start with a ladder?....Please!
no helmet no ear protection if that had been a bigger branch 2 mins 43 in he would be dead as it hit him coming back into the tree. its a wonder hes not dead.
@loupnoir1016 definitely a lazy, scared hack. I wish my customers were so easily impressed. looked like poor cuts. spiking a trim, low tie in point, low lowering point (which led to the hitting of the antennae) and scaredy-cat limb walking (even with spikes on) this is sloppy work. The guy is lucky to be alive and intact. To aspiring arborists, this is what tree work USED to look like we can do better!
Somebody should have told this good climber if he wants to walk out limbs to tie in higher than 4 feet above his work lmao. He looks like a ground man that I'd let do some ladder work.
Was this a video on, Not what to do? I can use this in my safety courses. This guy broke every safe work practice in the standards. I would also like to comment on the construction damage done to the trees in his yard, ROOT DAMAGE!
No gloves, no hearing protection, no eye protection, chainsaw still running while climbing, spurs instead of rope climbing, holding the saw with one hand....
people like this are why good tree companys have to pay high workers comp premiums. This gentleman does not comply with many safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment (hardhat). I would fire any of my climbers if they rigged something by themselves while in the tree and he still hit the antenna. Unbelievable. I'm not sure if the tree was removed completly but if not he just tore that tree up with his climbing spurs for no reason.
I assume by the way he's cutting the branches that he is taking the tree down. Plus, this fella looks old enough to where he doesn't need an employeer. OHSHA is fine for the kids, but the elders of the trade know how to do it without all of the silly rules.
Carl, This guy isn't a elder tree climber. He isn't even a good climber. Watch as he limb walks out to maybe 4 feet away from the trunk. A good climber could walk all the way out and bring that limb in much smaller pieces or at least walk out and tie it off for rigging from the ground and a second worker and not to yourself. As for your comment on taking the tree down, watch the video closer, the tree is pruned and still there (not removed).

Red circle with the line through it. When you can climb a tree to prune it without leg spikes, re-post your video.

I have to agree that was amateur. Wearing spikes on what appears to be a pruning job. Not to mention the piss poor rigging and cutting.

@loupnoir1016 seems this guy had to improvise because he does not have the proper equipment. Very dangerous position to put yourself in.

Carl, also any good climber could do the same job, faster, safer, and not did any damage to the tree.
