commented 2 years ago and stated that I put this video as one of my favorites... nice to come back and hear a good version of such a great song.. Nicely done Chris.
@jatodon Thank you so much. I love that song and Simon is such a huge influence of mine. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I'm working on my full length album now...it will be out late this year or early next year. Keep in touch!
this is as good as the original. like the way it ended, your voice and guitar work. two distinct versions and really like both of them. too croony? nah. distinctive...you betcha!
Your guitar is excellent, and I like the inventive and unexpected style of your backing track, but your voice, man. It's good, great even, but too slick, too croony. I suspect you've got a real voice in there somewhere, but I don't think you're using it. I could be completely wrong though,so don't place too much stock in this either way.
Chris, my wife and I have listened to your cover of "The Only Living Boy In NY," a long time favorite S&G song of mine, dozens of times now, here on youtube.
We love it!
Would you be willing to share any tips in the info section on your chord use and styling of this song? I suspect a little something, anything, would inspire many more guitar students and Chris Burns fans.
Thank you for sharing this... simply said, it is wonderful.
Thank you so much...this is one of those songs I wish I had written. So good. The chords are the same as Paul Simon's version but the capo is up one more fret. (7th instead of 6th...easier for me to sing)
The main difference with the way I play this song is in the tempo and overall space. What I mean by "space" is that I leave the chords open. I came up with a basic picking pattern that is different from the definitive strumming pattern in the original.
People either love it or hate it...I just love playing it. Obviously I am still a bigger fan of the original but I was trying to play it without it sounding like just another cover. I would have to say that my version would probably not work with a full band but with just me and the loop it can stand on its own.
Thanks for taking such an interest...I hope this answered your question(s).
Excellent performance Chris. I am glad I clicked on this because now my next click puts this in my pool of favorites. Great guitar talent and a voice to go with it. You got a gift thanks for sharing it.
Hello Chris, yes this is really a great version of the beautiful S&G song. Different from our version but your's is a pleasure to listen to. Beautiful voice you have (be careful with such a gift) and your guitarplaying is so fine. Greatings from Holland
You're welcome! Seriously, I can't stop listening to your cover. My next youtube cover will be The Only Living Boy in New York as well, it's such a gorgeous song! :D
I revisited your version of the song again...and decided to write another note to say how much I enjoyed your version. Just brilliant...thanks for shedding new light on an old favorite. Wow.
This is an excellent rendition of this song really strong voice. when i heard this song on the album i too had to learn it although i have no idea how to play the tiny solo part near the end i know its a Broken G chord but thats about it. :P

@RJiminez51 Strong words...and you felt the need to comment that you hated it. I always assumed that people just skipped videos they didn't like.
DickWiseman 1 year ago
@RJiminez51 i should not say i hated it. i did not like it but i respect your artistic view of the song.
RJiminez51 1 year ago
@RJiminez51 Understood. Thanks for the clarification. I would 'hate' to think that I was making people 'hate' things... take care. :)

FanTASTIC job. Lovely, spectacular, amazing. You have an incredible voice--I am oh so envious.
How you didn't get thunderous applause is beyond me.

One last "Great job" and I'm done.
