  • First car, new tape of the Cars, man those were the days.

  • I can listen to the Cars all day

  • One of the best buildups at the end of a rock song ever!

  • sophomore in high school, my girlfriend Ann, cruising, drinking beers, listening to music.

  • I met Ric Ocasek in a record store in Boston on Boylston Street. I was looking through records and he was right beside me. I very slowly pulled out my camera and he walked out. I took several shots of him walking away....lucky I had my camera...in those days there were no cameras in phones...there were no cell phones!!!!!!!

  • Still Cool.

  • THE KEYS IN THIS KICK ASS!

  • HA when this song came out it was on 8 Track .

  • Nobody's made the PMV yet? He's a lot like Q? Am I the world's oldest brony for thinking of it?

  • @kovik62 You are right!!!

  • Shouldn't have been fagged. There are alot more risque videos on Youtube.

  • I just have to ask why this video was flagged? Is it because of the lyrics or the album cover? Give me a f****n break! (Oh please dnt flag me for the f word being typed!! ~___~) seriously if itz flagged because of little boys are caught masturbating to the album cover, big deal! I mean all I wanted to do was listen to the damn song n yet I had to go on my sisters account which took forever because of not remembering tha password. Itz just very upsetting that youtube has 2 be policed like this.

  • I guess scantily clad women count as profanity? Actually that is art. What's the deal youtube?

I spent my teen years listening to the Cars. I still love the music.

  • Never ever gets old!

  • what the fu is age restricted ?

  • First time I heard this I was 15 or 16. Always been one of my favorites. Just Kick Ass!!!

  • I had to sign in for inappropriate content? Really????

  • This video has been age restricted due to Youtube guidelines? Uhhhhhh-yeah, I guess all this nudity & profanity is too much for all the little snowflakes listening to Lil' Wayne. What planet are we on?

  • what a jem.

  • 4 stars Short Video

  • This song was on a very little known movie called "Times Square" Watch it here on YT...Lots of great music from that era...Ebay has the DVD for over 100 bucks...it's oop

  • Great song better album cover

  • Best cars song period. These guys knew what real rock was. New cd proves it. Still got it. Go cars go!

  • It's tough to pick the quintessential Cars song - they've got so many great ones - but "Dangerous Type" is a top contender for sure.

  • SHE'S HOT!

  • why is this video flagged?

  • @A4GRET The album cover would send many mothers into a tizzy

  • I remember just thinking the stones were the stuff ya know, And these guys came out of nowhere F'n love these dudes

  • first time i heard this was on the movie The Craft, that movie also introduced me to the smiths

  • the first time i heard this song was with my old pickering headphones. i was 21 years old, stoned, and it just blew me away and i will never forget it. i have no idea what day it was or if anyone else was there, just that i was totally tripping on it. i bought 'candy-o' on vinyl shortly thereafter... we had no internet, i-tunes, or even CD's back then. if you wanted the song you either bought it, borrowed it, or recorded it from a friend's copy or right off the air FM stereo. fun times.

  • @swimmerB0B I was there.............lived in Mendon. Use to go to Billy Jacks in Penfield.

  • Like most cars songs the keyboard makes this song.

  • love that ding at 330 you be a genious to come up with this kind of music. unless its thanks to the marijuana which it all probley is

  • Great song To Fuck To I'll Have To Try It Out and See Hmmm....

  • @babyimawantyou

Would this work for gays? idk...id fuck to it...but then again i fuck to coltrane, brahms, radiohead and arcade fire sooooo my opinion is tainted

  • @dgudman88 I would assume you are from the current generation with that type of comment.

  • One of their best!

  • @InteriorCommando: grew up in Fairport, altho I graduated in 83.. I remember Frank's and her name sounds soooo familiar. Condolences.

  • This is the perfect "okay, so I'll clean the house already," song. LOVE HIS VOICE!! The Cars and The Tubes: the Kings of the '80s.

  • BOOOOOOBBIESSSS. WOW.

  • ABSOLUTELY love this song and band.......

  • The drums, The DRUMS... PUNCH - !!!!!!!

  • 32 years and it still sounds great!

  • My all-time favorite Cars song!!!!

  • She's alot like you

  • Awesome wake up tune

  • Can I touch you are you outta touch?

  • I GET EARGASMS FROM THIS SONG!!!! :P

  • nice band..i like their songs.

  • True musicianship and song writing = talent. Probably the best underrated band of all time. I love playing all their albums start to finish, then starting over again, takes me back to better, simpler times. LOVE IT ! ! !

  • True musicianship and song writing = talent. Probably the best underrated band of all time. I love playing all their albums start to finish, then starting over again, takes me back to better, simpler times. Love it ! ! !

  • I'm in the market for one. Doing my due diligence at fasteconomicalcars (.) com

  • I agree. This is their best song ever!

  • Love The Cars! Nothing today compares.

  • This is a tough one the first Cars album or Candy O. Both of them are full of great songs. I love both of them. Its hard to pick. Cars Good Times Roll My Best Friends Girl Just What I Needed You're All I've Got Tonight Bye Bye Love Moving In Stereo/All Mixed Up I'm In Touch With Your World Dont Cha Stop Candy O Lets Go Since I Held You It's All I Can Do Double Life Shoo Be Doo Candy-O Night Spots You Can't Hold On Too Long Lust For Kicks Dangerous Type I love them all
  • I know Benjamin Orr is gone but i heard that the rest of the original members of the cars are going on tour this next summer. I surley hope so. I missed them in the late 70's & early 80's. My best buddie seen them twice in the late 70's. I should have went with him dumbass me said no.

  • @ssoultrain: Hard to say what their "best song" is but this is a great song. I love the cars.

  • There was a guy I knew a VERY long time ago and crazy as it sounds...and as I was driving in to meet him for the first time, this song came on....Dumbass that I am should've listened to it ..hehehe :) Still, this is a GREAT song!

  • Listened to this song what seems to be 10,000 times & it still sounds the same today as I heard it for the first time in 1979. What a great song!!! Love the Cars!!!

  • "79" I remember hitting the bars me and my sister with long hair, tight tops and tight jeans and of course the heels! and being called the twins!! ( oh, and still have the long hair) LOL!

  • come on and hold me tight!

  • one of their most underrated and underplayed songs a true classic goes back with the days of summer

  • how did you get the 18 plus warning

  • The last time I saw the love of my life we were playing pool in a bar called Franks Tavern in Fairport NY in 1979 and she played this on the jukebox. R.I.P Donna Renee Webb....

  • @InteriorCommando AWww, how sad :(

  • @InteriorCommando it also reminds me of a guy i dated at the time...ended badly but I still love this song. Interestingly enough...he also passed a couple of years ago and I have no idea what happened. Hadn't seen or heard from him in years...but i can still never get enough of this song.

  • I love The Cars!! Always have. I remember a girl living down the road who, in HS, was a more "altrnative" type. That was 1981. She was not one to wear her interests on her sleave. She was not shallow like that. Her name was Jenny. She drew this album cover for me. I will never forget it. Thanks Jenny!!

  • What a way to end an album...and a concert, too! I saw them on Halloween, 1979, during the "Candy-O" tour and this song was their final encore!

  • AH, those were the days

  • @jakelvis100 Lol!! I was just thinking the same thing!

  • awesome band , great drummer ! ,great time to be a teen had fun to this music thanks guys..

  • My favorite Cars song.... "She's alot like you.... the dangerous type!"

  • Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

  • Best song by the cars....

Not allot of air time but it is a true "sleeper"

How it went under the radar>I will never know.

  • @thepheoniix I can`t say either, this is a masterpiece!!! The Cars are what music is & "was" to bad we have nothing today in their class!

  • THIS is how my ears get laid

  • I was cruising McHenrry Avenue in Modesto, California, the heart of the movie "American Graffiti" with this song blasting out of my 1965 Ford Mustang. Oh, the days.

  • Does the drummer have a combination of a acoustic and electronic drums.. wondering what he is hitting too get that different tone through-out this song

  • Did anyone else besides me want to nail that chick on the cover as a teen in 79?

  • @TheZepmeister I'm a teen now and I know I do.

  • @TheTrainRex Lol, gotta love the camel toe on her!

  • @TheZepmeister --You bet someone else did, brother! And I dated a girl who, though not exactly like our cover girl was pretty dam close...sigh...and by the way, it ain't 1979 anymore, but I STILL want to nail her. Go figure, huh? :-)

  • ah man this is just one of those song you turn up as loud as you can take

  • Hypnotizing!

  • Thanks to Slance1 for all the great "Cars" videos.

  • What sucks is this is my all time favorite Cars song, easily one of their 6 or 7 best no matter who you ask.....and yet it's not on their greatest hits albums. Ridiculous. What a great rock song.

  • @casheasy Ditto on this being the all-time best Cars song! At least you WILL find it on their Cars Anthology double album, which was released in 1995.

  • What a great song with staying power. I kick back and think of the great memories of the parties, concerts, college and my old chevy nova ss. Thanks for posting

  • okay this whole album rocks, and that BLACK camaro... good times

  • <3 this song!

  • Could this babe on the album cover be the 'Dangerous Type?'

  • Oh The Cars and the crisp autumn air. No better memories. Wait for the giant mosquito 3:08.

  • Oh The Cars and the crisp autumn air. No better memories. Wait for the giant mosquito.

  • BEST cars song, BYE BYE LOVE is great too.

  • they had the best album covers

  • @solimiansky naw, Molly Hatchet had the best IMO.

  • i hear this song and i picture the "Craft", good movie.

  • She's a lot like you, the dangerous Type.

    ♥♥♥♥♥

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • cars!!!!chingonsisimo!!!alegria de por vida con esta rola!!i love cars!!! saludos a todo mexico!! from here chicago!!!

  • For all of you saying this is an 80s recording, it's from the late 70s, 1979 to be exact.

  • I really hope no one does a cover of this or samples it.It doesn't get much better than this.I never heard a group mix keyboards with guitars so well

  • @multigenremusicmvmnt

Actually, Letters to Cleo did a cover quite a few years back. It was on the soundtrack to "The Craft".

  • @ubiquity60441

Since I missed it,that tells me something.*smile* I'll check it out

  • The only downside is that I didn't get a chance to see them in concert. But their music keeps getting better for THIS fan of that 80's sound. It beats most of today's "music" with a resounding thud. RIP Ben...

  • I think the Advair I'm taking is giving me thrush. I'm so raspy these days.

  • my kids found the first album in my closet...an 8 track...they wanted to know..what kind of game it was and why it was soooo big!!!LMAO The chick in the car!!!! too funny!!! to think they're 22 and 26 now..my kids that is...damn..i'm a gr ma...LOL Mr. baby likes this..i turn them on to all kinds of music..there's more to life than rap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my kids found the first album in my closet...an 8 track...they wanted to know..what kind of game it was and why it was soooo big!!!LMAO

  • Dantasic song thanx for posting it brings back killer school memories

  • One of my faves. great concert in houston in 1984 and I was there.

  • lol

  • This IS my favorite from this album but...they all sound better now than ever.

  • Nothing like them at the time or since then. Unique sound. Brings back memories

of the Pioneer super tuner 3 and Jenson Triacles. I still have a few of their cassettes, a millions miles on each. Thanks for the post!

  • Still love this song. Thanks for posting!

  • This takes me back to the good times of high school !! it sound just as good today as it did back then... Thanks!!

  • I sold this album back in 1979 when I worked in a music store during college. I remember playing it for the first time in the store and thinking it was really good. 31 years later I'm still playing a cassette of it I recorded back then. It's good to hear it on YouTube.

I've listened to a lot of music in my day, and I'm ready to finally declare: Candy-O is the best album of all time! There, I said it. It seems to get better the more you play it.

  • @1217Rock Spot on! Grew up in Chicago & to this day this album moves me in more ways than one! A 5 star album! Question... Does the young generation know what real music is or "was" ???

  • @1217Rock A few posts tonight,& I must say that this is what good music is & what should be. Have the cds & lp`s of the Cars. True Gold!!!

  • The Cars best.

  • love the glockenspiels at the endof the song

  • The Cars (along with their sound) literally added another dimension to and changed music in such a profound way that their "sound" is still a major influence in the more modern era (e,g, S.O.D., Puddle of Mudd and even Prince acknowledges their influence on his career.

  • Who did the song "Can't hold me down"?

  • This is their best song. Best heard after the 2 minute mark, after they stopped dicking around with pop, and just said, "let's rock"...repeat...chorus into the ground and "rock some more"...then it just gets intense....it really sounds dangerous....They sound it and I believe it....awsome sound at 2:49 and it just builds and builds, all climax to 4:24... all that time with the Modern Lovers really pays off here...repitition (now sexed up) is a virtue....

  • @ssoultrain The ending is the best, but yeah, I agree with u too

  • @ssoultrain I agree 150%

  • THANKS SLANCE.... FRIGGIN GREW UP TO THE CARS...

  • the really intelligent aspect about this song is that towards about halfway thru it,it slowly, gradually, and gracefully progresses to the end of the song. you really dont notice this too much-even though youve heard the song a million times before. this occurs around 2:21 when the song ascends on a crest, then begins to slowly descend in tone carrying on towards the end of the song. its amazing, the song is about 4 1/2 minutes long..but the song is already ending after only 2 1/2 minutes.

  • @mireaux7 What a beautiful frick`in song!!! This is a masterpiece!!!

  • I have never listened to this tune without turning it way up - still rocks after all these years

  • sexy sexy sexy. i gotta buy this album right now.

  • haha my dad got my mom to go out with him with this song

  • To every girlfriend out there!!

  • My all time favorite Cars song. Incredible that it isn't on their greatest hits album, which is on my favorite bar's juke box so I could play it every once in a while lol. What a great song!

  • Another AWSOME song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Remember cruising in a 6.6 Liter 77 Trans Am to this. It was 8 track of course!

The Cars knew what it was to escape your parents house in muscle car and looking for your "kicks." 1979-80 was a bad year, bu tthe Cars made up for it! I am thankful to have grown up then.

  • Believe it or not, The Cars used to play our high school dances. Needham High, class of '76. I never made it to those dances, but I remember the posters on the wall in the cafeteria. My ex-wife whom I went to school with saw Ric Ocasek walking down the hall to the office one day to the collect their check. Like she said "You don't forget dudes who walk around looking like Ric Ocasek." LOL! True...

  • the eerie keyboards made this song and many of their others.

  • @ToddInLN52254 Not to take anything away from your opinion, but the keyboard lines were unbearably simple, I taught my girlfriend's grand daughter to play along on several songs from this album on her playskool bells.

  • my favorite from this album is Candy o.

  • Awesome song..."Letters To Cleo" did a version of this song, it has a more upbeat girly sound to it which either way its a great song ...but if I had to choose, theres nobody who does it like the original singers. the one and only CARS!!! I saw them back in the mid 80's and I loved hearing it live, it was sooo cool!!

  • Thank you, Stance! I think it's my fave from Candy-O too!!!

  • The power-house band that I remember them opening-for was Styx (damn good in their own right). The Cars surpassed them and stole the show.

  • This album cover, hands down, is and will always be my favorite. The model reminds me a bit of someone I dated in 1979, so whenever I heard this song I thought (and still think) of her. Sweet dreams, Tina...

  • This is what really put Power Pop hooks and Snotty Punk lyrics to the mainstream and ....as Captain Beefheart once said.....Safe as Milk.

  • the cars bring you out to where you can have a good time, so rock on yeaaa party with your friends'''''''

  • 2 words, THE CARS:)

  • dangerous type and she always will be/////

  • As an opening act they blew-away the head-liners...

  • @GrtGuyToo

Yhea....But Man the Headliners were BTO and crappy Beer Drinkin' Bands....We were TIED of that by then...We wanted something to Party with and not get all violent and Nachos?

  • I remember when I got this album .that was before the warning stickers they have now. it would sure wake up your snake if you know what I mean . me and friends liked to lift hustler mags. and got kicked off the school bus for showing the bus driver some centerfolds . these times rocked and you know the dangerous types we all go through that. the cars rock''''''''''''

  • I remember these guys were big in my senior year ...This was always my favorite!

  • I believe this was the first album I bought with my "own" money. Just got a job--loved the Cars--LOVED THE SONG because it reminded me of a gal in school. Memories.

  • I met the band in '79, on the promo tour for this album. They did a very strange double-take when I brought a roll of cable to the stage. Afterwards, I understood why. I bought the new record, and I or my twin was on the cover. I was a dead ringer for the model...

  • @louiseduvee You can't leave us hanging like that. To claim to be a dead-ringer for her....wow......let's see a pic ....

  • If you've got any Vargas art work or prints, hang on to them! Those pictures are worth thousands of dollars.

  • shit if i ever had a woman whos rack was that firm .... id never leave the bed room id suckle all day lololol ...... look at those !! classic yum

  • VARGAS, did the cover, he had worked for Hugh Hefner, (PLAYBOY). It's my favorite Cars album.

  • Good song and awesome album cover!

  • One of the iconic album covers of my youth. Had the poster. I ask you, how freaking good were The Cars (especially the first two albums)?

  • Saw The Cars at the old Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin TX back in '79...what a show...never saw so many pretty Texas girls shaking their ta-tas in one room...saw the Talking Heads the following Saturday night...what a two weeks!!

  • @clyde8her 2 Thumbs up it was..We sure miss it

  • I was listening to this song and was thinking whatever happened to Bejamin Orr. So I googled him and found out he was dead. Very sad. He was certainly one of the driving forces behind the caqrs.

  • I loved the Cars early 80s, yup they were different to say the least! LOL I stil have this on cassette!

    Candyo is still sexy!

  • I remember these guys so well when they came out. This music was radically different at the time. There was new wave and British stuff. And then there were THE CARS. Or that's what it felt like. It was odd and different strange rhythms but somehow very very fun and enjoyable to listen to. I hear this stuff and it takes me right back to good memories.

  • Couldn't agree with you more...same!

  • Their bass player passed away a number of years back from pancreatic cancer. You can hear him singing in this song and he does the lead singing in a few songs.
