Drill for oil on the East and Western Coast and you will drown in oil ! There is no drilling for oil on the East or West Coast of the USA ! Drill for oil on the East or west coast of the USA, we will drown in Oil !
You didn't argue that a switch to domestic drilling will be in anyway environmentally sound or democratically responisble,
You pay attention to profit, you're a slave to corporations and the owners of capitalism- you're a probably a worker who doesn't own an oil company, so you're deep in ignorance.
Read recent scientific literature from universities and journals to become informed about the environment- don't listen to environmentalists or socialists
Oil is being replaced by other forms of energy. Some of these are fossil fuels and some are renewable sources. You seem to see the collapse of our economy as a good thing. You do realize that this would mean the death of millions if not billions? It would not be the rich but the poor, especially those in the developing world that would no longer be able to sustain their populations.
Is it the case that you are a "primitivist"? What is it you're advocating exactly? A return to hunter-gatherer societies? The abandonment of virtually all forms of technology?
it may mean gathering and hunting or not. there are no programmes i set forth. but what's not needed is civilization. it's to create a new cultural narrative identifying with the world rather than positing a deep alienation and estrangement from it: this is anti-civilization. dominance, power and hierarchy flow from this thinking, so if this is seen as the delusion that it is, people may live meaningful lives in the absence of say computers, electricty, cars and industrial civilization.
I'm afraid that things are not so simple. Reverting to a primitive state of existence may seem romantic in many respects, however I don't know that it represents a proper solution.
Similar to any other animal, much of our behaviour is dependent upon our genetic code. While it is true that certain environments may encourage or discourage various behaviours, our animal instincts almost always surface in some form or another.
this isn't a romantic but updated version of the noble savage. this is a scientific examination of one culture that has existed for 10,000 years that is systemically designed for poverty, inequality, rulers and dominating nature. other cultures do not rest on the same memetic complexes.
The Chimpanzee, which supposedly shares 90% - 95% of our genetic code is an interesting subject of study. Chimpanzees possess a propensity to form male-dominated hierchical societies and often exhibit highly aggressive behaviour. Conversely, the Bonabo tends to form quasi-egalitarian societies and exhibits highly sexual behaviour. So far as human behaviour is concerned, we appear to fall somewhere in between these two close relatives of ours.
thousands of tribal societies or thousands of years have been egalitarian, leader-less and exhibit effective anarchy. there is no historical or anthropological argument to support your claim conflating to disprarte issues.
That's a bold assertion my friend, and I beg to differ. This is an argument of nature versus nurture, and modern biology suggests nature is predominant. The notion of the "noble savage" has been dismissed and discredited countless times, conduct some proper research before blindly subscribing to an emotionally appealing ideology. Dominant social institutions emerged from human nature, there's a biological basis to modern society.
what is a bold assertion? the predominance of egalitarianism in non-civilized people & social inequality in civilization? read some elementary antrho lit dude.
As far as we can tell, conflict was prevalent amongst the tribes of the Americas and Europe. When faced with scarcity man predictably resorts to violence. Genuine egalitarianism is and was a rarity.
this isn't true either- north america prior to being domesticated by civilization was remarkably abundant: cod sailors pulled out of teeming waters with buckets, flocks of passenger pigeons that darkened the sky, herds of buffalo so long that a horseman riding a day wouldn't get to the end. all off these species have predictably become extinct given their exposure to this culture. and not because indians were too dumb to kill them off but because they didn't think like the civilized did.
The Indians of North America are likely the worst possible defense. Certain tribes, the Mohawks are a fine example, were incredibly war-like. There is even a documented case of Hurons consuming the flesh of a captured member of a rival tribe in a ritualized fashion. They didn't behave as purely as some might have you believe. Also, why is it that elevated testosterone levels have been correlated with higher levels of social dominance? Is this simply a cultural phenomenon?
this is a psuedoscientific claim laden with unconscious and deeply-rooted cultural assumptions of 'human nature'. humans aren't the problem there's no divine or natural destiny compelling social institutions like churches or governments to arise- social inequality is an artificial, cultural institution not a trait inherent in the species homo sapiens.
no doubt man, the labels "primitive" and "advanced" depend primarily on ways of seeing the world in an imperialistic and dominating fashion.
"primitve", at best, shows the patronizing quality of the politics of the west. hence there's the need to be governed, to worship gods, to be obedient, deferential to authority, to get a job, sell your land to timber corporations etc.
I agree that we are each responsible for our lives in the face of this and am currently creating a garden and learning permaculture in the first time and space that this has been a choice in my life.
I value the beauty of nature and the truth of the moment which is that we are clearly about to destroy as much as is possible on the way down.
I find your words completely true and beautiful in the stark way they create a vision of where we are and what we have been as a people.
I agree with your philosophical and spiritual assumptions and perceptions. The study of native peoples taught me this years ago and recent studies confirmed my worst fears for our outcome.
Tat Tvam Asi :-). Hopefully our compassion and understanding of our mutual interdependence with all of existence will flourish. Maybe humanity isn't beyond redemption, but the coming generations could be in for quite a difficult time.
however, civilization is and always will be beyond redemption. and we've already entered industrial civilization's dying days- the era of cheap food is behind us as is oil.
in other words, we've reached the crescendo of the productive (i.e. destructive) capacity of our way of living. and it's about damn time too.
We are a giant ant colony grown out of control with abundant resources. The party is about to end, and it may get really ugly. Were out of balance, but sometime in the future we will be back in balance, it will be by natures hand.
some biologists and scientists say this culture has already gone past "the point of no-return". it has inflicted irreparable damage to biodiversity, top-soil, hitherto plastic-free ocean currents, migratory birds, bison, arawak indians, polar ice caps, american rivers, canadian lakes, european forests...
Yeah were fucked, but life will continue to evolve and just take back over the planet given enough time. Maybe the next evolution of sentient beings will dig us up and learn from our mistakes, but I doubt it, the cycle will continue until the sun goes pop.
very passionate. though it would seem without oil many will continue doing things, trying to grow food in the same way (a type/style of agriculture) that is devastating to the ecology. lording over one another in a top down hierarchical structure. to see this dominate culture dwindle and or change we need to organize ourselves differently, ways that open up to autonomy, diversity, and most importantly with the understanding that new cultural paradigms are desperately need to do this...
I totally agree. There seems to have been these mass mindset movements seemingly designed to alienate us from the Land, animals and community and even our bodies!
This is a very serious question I contantly am researching. The who and whyfore do members of our species promote this self-destructive mindsets
cont))) Obviously those in 'control' cunningly devise ways to control people. And they have anc ontinue to do this via myth. They 'did' so with religious myth and now do it with scientific myth!!!
thanks. it's a pity that "our way is the only way" thinking in the minds of many isn't even questioned. let alone that those who think this are allowed to continue with impunity.
hell this "thinking" (or whatever it is) is fucking rewarded by men in business suits, bosses with dead eyes and politicians with cold hearts.
It is very important to SEE those dead eyes, grim faces, grey pallid faces. As a child I could see that clearly. Children are very perceptive. all of that word was devoid of life
It still IS for me. Because it IS!! when you see that its seein emperor without his clothese on
I also see how BOSSY and aggressive the suits are. how they talk talk. and how their puppets the mdeia play that game
cont)))when you TRIp you can see this too. but because of 'science' even some trippers post come-down will get sucked into the matrix again. so the myth is very powerful. thats why we must integrate and research and decontsruct it till the cows come home ;)....doing so is poetry

"We will drown in Oil" is obviously false.
There will be marginal gains, not substantially new reserves competing with Middle Eastern sources in terms of size and duration.
The consumption of oil will outpace supply in any case. this is a scientific fact.

Although I identify myself with "primitivist" views, I reject the labeling of the views as "primitivism".
I believe in a society where one could look back and see the TRULY primitive ways we were living before.
Rewilding is a step forward, not backward.
