Watch Shell Youtube video: " Carbon capture and storage: A bridge to a low-carbon future " and tell me what the left-over "stuff" is after they filter out the CO2?
just like religion, dont EVER put SCIENCE and POLITICS TOGETHER!!!!
Any government could take advantage of the little menacing details science has, just as it did for religion. and I agree 100% with what GuybrushThreebwood is saying.
Co2 is actually produced naturally by respiration and used by plants to photosynthesize. It's what literally makes our planet green Honest! The optimum level is about 1200-1500 ppm- far higher than today's level since most plants evolved in higher Co2. Forget 'big' oil or 'big' environmentalism- just ask a science teacher- or even a gardener!
@austinallenfin As much as I would like to enter into an educated discussion about carbon dioxide and the greenhouse effect and talk about how infantile and short-sighted Steward's claims are, I'd rather not, because these discussions almost always turn into a remedial lesson for global warming nay-sayers who don't even understand the mechanisms behind what they're arguing against.
@H0SS Maybe you can tell me who is poised to profit off carbon capture technology and cap and trade? Because it is definitely not the public. The same people who have been profiting off oil and natural gas, Halliburton, Shell, BP and Big Banks are poised to make huge profits off Cap and Trade through trading carbon credits and storing the one clean waste industry produces. Why not capture all the toxic and carcinogenic pollutants that they are spewing into the air? CO2 is the only problem?
@austinallenfin Of course they would profit. That's the point: to make it more profitable to reduce emissions. Yes, it'd be nice to remove pollutants from the air.
You somehow interpreted my statement about the greenhouse effect as something about cap and trade policy. I'm not here to argue about cap and trade. I'm here to say (again) that Steward's claims are short-sighted and infantile at best, and that he doesn't understand the relationship between carbon dioxide and the greenhouse effect.
@H0SS The video specifically mentions Cap and Trade. Is it possible that what you think you know about CO2 and global warming is wrong? I think it is very bizarre that a clean industrial waste like CO2 is being indicated while other industrial pollutants like SOx, NOx, VOCs, lead, mercury and many other toxic and carcinogenic pollutants are not being addressed. CO2 is the only clean and beneficial industrial pollutant and that is what the oil companies want to cap and trade? Very bizarre.
@austinallenfin The video also specifically mentions that CO2 doesn't affect climate change, which is what I'm disagreeing with. Anything is possible, but it's unlikely that what I know about climate change is absolutely wrong. Also, industrial pollutants are indeed regulated. People do exist that deal with them. The media doesn't highlight any of their work, so most people don't know about it. All the general population knows is buzz words and hot topics that are explained in very small detail.
@H0SS And please don't respond with "all the science is on my side", because it is not. science; it is "buzz" propagated by the oil companies to profit off carbon trading.
@austinallenfin I respond with "all the science is on my side", but it really is. Go to any respectable research university and ask their physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering departments what they think about man-made climate change, and I assure you that the majority response will be that there is no question that the emission of greenhouse gases has contributed to climate change.
@austinallenfin As for funding, I can't speak for all of them, but I can tell you that many of them receive funding from the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Energy, among others. Perhaps the researchers at politically linked institutions have been driven out or reprimanded for having dissenting opinions, but those at respectable research universities have not (to my knowledge).
@austinallenfin Since this has become a "my side" versus "your side" thing, what does your side have to offer? "My side" has peer reviewed research papers from universities all over the place. "Your side" has a bunch of random guys saying "no, you're all wrong, I'm right because I think differently."
@H0SS I think this was just a debate to see what the truth is. I was hoping you would question Cap and Trade and CO2 storage. I will add that if you are still on the other side, it definitely has more funding, so it follows your side will have more peer reviewed research. Thanks for the debate. I don't buy into CO2 as the enemy and CO2 storage as the solution. I would rather see less toxic/carcinogenic pollution.

Leighton Steward is a retard. He is full of pseudoscience bullshit. Leave it to Fox News to allow him on TV.

@H0SS You are right CO2 is bad for plants.
