  • I've never heard this version, and this is one of my all time favs! And I forgot about the aliens that say 'yip yip' ! Whoever wrote this song definately had a moment of sheer genius when they came up w/ it!

  • I remember hearing this song all the time when I was little. I'm almost 20 now, and hearing it again brings back so many memories! Thanks for posting :)

  • Thank u for this wonderful song it gave me chills and a tear or two but Thank u

  • When I was about 6 years old me and my mom would sing this song together while she played her guitar. I am 16 now so it brings back a lot of sweet memories. It was a rough time in me and my mom's life and this song helped us forget it all for a few minutes.

Thank you for putting this up :)

  • and the Yip Yips at the end just seal it perfectly.

  • I get emotional from this song too and I'm not ashamed to say so :o) Also love the Aaron Neville version. This one is lovely too.

  • still gets me emotional. :(

  • Shawn and Ernie

    sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

  • i love this version but i also LOVE the version with Aaron Neville too.

  • My dad, my sister and I (back when I was about 7 or 6 years old) recorded this song while my dad played the guitar. I love that memory.

  • This is a nice version but I was trying to find one with maybe Baby Face or some nice singer like him who also sang it in Sesame Street... anyone?

  • Yes! This is the version I have been looking for! Thank you, Agentxg7g.

  • Shawn Colvin's voice is so soothing here. Thi version is OK but I LOVE the one with Aaron Neville.

  • Sweet!!!!!

  • love this version best - so far...Thank you for posting!!!

  • this isn't ernie's real voice :(

  • I think Joseph Gordon Levitt's version is the best XD

  • i like the other dude's rendition sorry i hate this! more harmonies needed...to give me bck tht warm fussy feeling inside.

  • Thank You! I have always wanted to play this song for my younger kids!!! Especially this version!

  • this version is one of my very favorites of all time i love this song very very much

  • This has always been my absolute favourite song from Sesame Street.

  • I know it may seem lame to some but I just love to hear this song done by different singers

  • I love that!

    It's mighty sweet!

  • would you people shut the fuck up and enjoy the song....jesus fucking christ....save the jews....burn all you complainers

  • @SHExxLIKESxxBARINAS

That's probably because Steve Whitmire just cannot compare to Jim Henson, especially singing.

  • @athull08 hmmm thats trew

  • <33333

  • I used to sing this song to my kids when they were babies. I still do when they are sick.

  • Maybe they should've dubbed Ernie with Jim Henson's original recording from 1978.

  • Yip yip yip yip ...uh huh

  • Steve Whitmire does as good a job as any could at imitating the voice of Ernie and Kermit, but Henson's was definitley better, smoother.

  • haha!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i agree with you on ernie's voice!

  • oh right. Like I said, I think they should've dubbed him for this song

  • i cried watching this. the song still has meaning even after so many years, and so many renditions!

  • @darik60 cry? really? lol

  • @redchinee13 think your a little late on that comment

  • @cudgels1 maybe he/she is still crying? lol

  • not my taste but this is still a good song...i rather aaron naville and ernie

  • 100% agree aaron naville and ernie i better

  • This doesn't work without the flute.

  • Shawn Colvin sounds so beautiful! She also did a song for the Stuart Little 2 movie!

  • Even though it's not the original Ernie voice, there are points for his singing skills and keeping it as close to the original as possible. Did you guys notice the lovely harmonious 'Ahh~' at the end by Ernie? This is beautiful. One of my favourite songs. R.I.P. Jim Henson.

  • good song

  • Beautiful. She has a gorgeous voice, I envy her... I also envy her getting to sing with Ernie!

  • this version, and the one with Aaron Neville I like much better.

  • Do you live in your mums basement or something?

  • did you even read my comment?

No, I don't live in my Mum's basement.

    Strange person.

    :S

  • And it's all thanks to you for posting this.

  • Ernie & Shawn Colvin certainly did a great job of singing "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon", don't you think?

  • Ernie doesnt sound quite the same as I remember in the 80's :( I rwalize it;s a differance voice acter...but stil lol

  • somebody really famous needs to record this song so it gets famous joshua radin should.

  • I've never heard of Josh Radin, but I've heard of Shawn Colvin. Not many "famous" people could do this song as wonderfully as Shawn. Could you imagine Brittany Spears Butchering it to a completely unrecognizable format?

  • hey dad its me on alainnas youtube and i love this sing erine is so CUTE he is my fav

  • Mine too.

  • anyone who grew up on jim henson and sesame street would love to perform with the characters

  • very sweet post... thanks so much for sharing. love the song... love shawn colvin

  • I just merely meant by a previous comment of mine that Steve cannot hit the sort of soulful note Jim could when doing this beloved song (Steve's more suited to erratic type of songs, like those of his Wembley and Rizzo characters), hence why he merely played backdrop to Shawn here and why I said having Shawn & Jim duet the song would've been masterful.

  • i love her voice, and elmopalooza :)

  • I absolutely love Shawn's duet with Ernie...check out Elmopalooza for all the kiddies.

  • i think i like the one with aaron neville a little better

  • Funny! Really

  • i dont know shawn colvin is pretty good but yes arron neville is by for the best

  • i really really love this song, tx for upload

  • Wow. this is so cool.

  • Sesame Street Ernie Steve Whitmire

  • This sounded pretty good! I'm a fan of the original, but this is a great retake on it. Shawn Colvin's got a great voice!

  • Okay stooopid question but... Does anyone now if this can be found as mp3 or somethinglike that?

  • it's on itunes. Go to Elmopaloza and you'll find it.

  • well i love it !!!!!!!!

  • Yep. That's what happens when a show goes on for over 30 years and some of the original Muppeteers die.

Wasn't Ernie originally one of Jim Henson's voices?

  • yup

  • FattestJack: You DO know that Steve was very close to Jim, right? Yes, we know here a bit of "Wembley" in Kermit and other characters Jim originally voiced nowadays, but Steve's doing his best. After all, what is the Muppet family without Kermit and Ernie (among others)?

  • It doesn't really matter because I like them both.

  • I love thee yiiip yips.. :) uh hhuh llook book. *bbbbbbbbbbbbring* oohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • is this the first version without Jim Henson?

  • Definitely the best version of the song. :D

  • luv the vocals! very down-to-earth and velvety, kinda sounds like "sweet girl next door"

  • can someone PLEASE send me the tabs for this song? i want to sing it for my friend's baby son and i can't find the tabs anywhere..

    please

  • man seriously, this song is just amazing...

    -LokiHeart

  • Ernie's just not the same without Jim Henson.

  • I certainly know what you're saying, however Steve Whitmire does a great imitation of Ernie's voice (along with Kermit).

  • This was great. One of the better parts of Elmopalooza.

  • sniffle sniffle- love it!

  • Great reworking of the song! Less depressing, too.

  • Wow. That was g-great! Good to see Ernie getting out and about. (I've always thought that Bert was holding back Ernie's career to some degree.)

  • i'm crying.

  • Its such a dreamful piece,

    love it

  • Great song.

  • I love this..

  • Thank you for posting this. I love this song, and this version with Shawn Colvin is lovely.

  • good lord. so sad.

  • Me and my mother used to sing this together when i was little before she passed away... brings back good memories thank you so much!

  • Really, man? That's very nice.

  • i love this song and the monsters that are like "yip yip yip yip yipp yipppp"

  • So do I.

  • my mom sang this song to me when i was a baby now were singing it to my baby brother

  • what year is this from?

  • 1998

  • Cute song. It´s very nice. That woman has a good voice. And, yeah, maybe the original version (with Jim Henson) was better, but i think that mr. Whitmire sang very well in this version.

  • I agree with you, man.

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with you,Mr.Henson was much better, that's another story.

  • Steve Whitmire does good as well.

  • lovely~~ =)

  • Thanks for posting this. You don't know how much it means to me.

  • I will admit Steve Whitmire isn't a good singing voice for Ernie like Henson was but then who is. However, this is a good version.

  • It's Ernie's song! It's from 1978. And it's awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • That's great!

  • LittleBunnyFooFoo7, we love ernie. Berts a fan we love also. You have absolutely no taste in songs or characters, so fuck off

  • LittleBunny: Frank was the hoof to Jim's flipper and they collaborated on so many things that when one thinks of Jim, his deligent collaborators, beloved creations, and loyal fanbase cannot be far behind.

  • uhh...this is not jim henson. steve whitmire does an alright job as kermit and ernie but CANNOT sing for nothing! Henson was classic and always brough emotion and feeling to his vocals on any muppett song steve just isnt cutting it. sorry i had to stop it after a minute. the original is and always will be the best version

  • This is a sweet cover of the original. I think Shawn did a good job of really capturing the feeling of the original version of the song. I do prefer the Henson version still...

  • Very good but Jim Henson was much beter at this.

  • It's a nicely done version, but I'll always prefer Jim Henson's vocals to Steve Whitmire's. Guess I just love the untouched classics.

  • I'm obsessed with this song now, and this is my favourite version. I love the look on Shawn Colvin's face when she delivers the line about oysters and clams. The only thing that bothers me is that the driver looks a bit miserable. The guy has a muppet and Shawn Colvin in his car, what's his problem?

  • Tucklis, I agree. I'm totally obsessed too. I stop frame all the way through to get the little expressions on her face. My favorite spot is where she says: "dinosaur"...She's just so adorable...and the spot where she fake pounces on Ernie...I was thinking the same thing about the driver...Long live Shawn Colvin...dollface! Angel voice...love the smoky way she sings "moon"

  • How cute is Shawn Colvin???

  • o yeah, great workmanship, a little fuzzy, but it's such an old song, how good can it get?

  • i <3 this song!!!
