vette video dit!! op the bluesestafette in Utrecht 1991!! is dus gewoon 20 jaar back in time! had big bad smitty in het hotel waar ik werkte als bartender toendertijd! SMITS HOTEL**** Utrecht. Ben nog met big bad smitty himself op kroegentocht geweest en showde hem el torro coffeeshop!! Whats up Big Bad Smitty!!!??? We did a lot of gin that week...Damn you still got it man!!! cheers Eddy
I saw Smitty in 1992 at The Grand Emporium, he then jammed with Booba Barnes at Nightmoves. Also saw him at Spriggins Hacienda in St Louis. He then visited Australia and played at the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival. Smitty was one of the highlights of our USA trip, we had never heard of him, yet what a band. All very nice people too, sad that nearly all of them have since passed.
I had a chance to meet Smitty and his wife at the Miss. Valley Blues fest in the 90's. I was there with Guitar Gabriel and Pinetop Perkins Big time Sara was there 2 along with Lonnie Pitchford and Lazy Lester. Don't Forget about John so Blue western he was there 2. I was in my teens then WHAT a weekend It was a haunting time the music will never be played like that again. The Music belongs to jesus he gave us this Soul music not the world. Thanks Smitty RIP Right on Good Times !! Aberdeen Slim
I remember their awesome show-stopping performance at the 1993 Chicago Blues Festival. Long time blues fans thought with the passing of Muddy and the Wolf, we'd never see another band of their caliber - but Smitty's band, with Bennie Smith and all of the above clearly was.
Five deadly killer Saint Louis Bluesmen. Some of the best unsung bluesmen that came out of America. Durius Montgomery on bass, Arthur (Moonshine) Williams on harp, Big Bad Smitty on Slide and vocals, the Saint Louis Dean of Electric Blues Guitar Bennie Smith, and Ray Hayes on drums. Unfortunately (and fortunately) only Arthur is still with us. Everyone may cheer the 'big names'... but it is the unsung blues masters like these (and that is no exaggeration) who have kept the blues alive and well
