  • @liferasta1 The problem is going from the inside out is its very inefficient if you have lots of discs to fix. Your welcome to do it your way if you think it gets a better result. I like my way for speed.

As for getting them back to "brand new" im fully aware that brasso is not fine enough for that. You would have to finish it off with a finer polish like "Cut -in- Shine" for that.

The main objective of this demo it to get the disc back to playable/copyable condition.Cheers

  • Been restoring some of my earlier albums today, as it was a job long-overdue. My preferred method is using the very soft cotton wool balls, and polishing the discs using autoglym super resin polish (car wax). Unbelievably good for taking out scratches and restoring the discs to a brand new condition. I had some albums which were in a pretty rough state. These now look like brand new and a mirror-finish. Good tip on using a non-slip mat. An old mouse-mat works well.

  • holy shit it works!

  • Pro? Yet I see him cleaning it in a circular motion, which makes it worse.

  • @superpiratecupcake If you want to spend the extra time and energy going form the inside to the outside edge you are welcome to. I have never found it necessary to achieve a playable/copyable disc.

  • New brasso sucks

  • It worked 4 me, my ole forza 2 runs fine again :)

  • I gave this an honest try (I already had the Brasso). But I had little success. It looks like you polish the disc for 2 minutes (tops) in the video. I polished mine for a good 20 minutes. It doesn't have any deep scratches just a lot of surface scuffing from riding around in the car in a CD case. It looks only marginally better. I was able to successfully copy the data from it (post-polish). I'll report on how it plays in the future (before it skipped and jittered).

  • @TheFozzwad Are you using the old or the new formula? The new one in the plastic bottle is not very good. Also if you need to remove a heavy amount of plastic, be sure to turn over your rag to a fresh spot and apply more brasso.

  • dammit, i got the new formula and it scratched it up but still works.

  • Sorry, i don't live in the USA. Your best bet is tour local hardware shop.

  • WHERE CAN I GET BRASSO IN AMERICA!!!! please help

  • @miseryland11 Walmart

  • @miseryland11 ebay walmart maybe walgreens

  • "a CD that's a bit mankey"....lol

  • @theghostofbleach56

There's some NZ Slang for you. It means beat-up. Cheers

  • brasso rules

  • I have tried and it makes the disks play, however they still have a visible swirl pattern. Can you genuinely get them flawless as-new condition?

  • @MrTubetown Probably not with just brasso. The grit partials are a bit large to get it back to a flawless finish. You will probably have to use a fine automotive polish for that. Cheers

  • does this work for blu ray discs because they are made differently

  • @longshot1120

It should still work. Bluray discs still use a laser like cd/dvd's. Just a smaller one.

  • thanks you saved my mw2!!!!

  • it looks like a pair of stained underwear lol 0:24

  • @TheGabe121212 The under wear has to be soiled for it to work

  • @234Leo2341 Mate. Brasso is brown. Get over it.

  • The guy used his old underpants to do it. ¬¬'

  • If your getting the cnt.bik error when installing, i tried this 3 times, on the third try it worked like a charm, game installed fine. :D

  • It's working, mate, nearly thrown away my CD, tried your trick and here we go - it's playing! The only thing I did, or actually I didn't :) is circular movement, I was doing it straight from the centre of the CD to its edge.

  • Where could I get that brasso your using in the video??

  • Where can I buy the elbow grease? Will it work without it?

  • @thornygravy lmao, I hope you're joking!

  • @xocaitlin88ox i am, bahaha

  • @thornygravy LOL. Elbow grease is slang for hard work. LOL

  • It works with the 'NEW" Brasso.

  • i use some lemon floor polish

  • i love ur accent =P

  • i got the new bottle and it made more scratches but the stuf you used here looks like it works great

  • @badfish8592 That might be the new formula. I have heard people having problems with it.

  • OMG DUDE U ARE AMAZING!!!

SEREUSLY MY GAME I LOVED IT SOOOO MUCH I CANT BELIEVE ITS WORKING !!

    subed!

  • the disc is brand new

  • Didn't use brasso, I used Plastix Plastic/ Cd polish but The process was great helped me get a game working after 3 hours of trying, Thanks whoop whoop

  • Nope, didn't work. Poor bad company 2. I'll try the toothpaste.

  • @gatortribe bad company 2 wtf did u do wth it

  • @gatortribe your bad company 2 is broken too? XD i knew i wasnt the only one

  • one of my cd i tryd everyithing and nothing works

  • I had the new brasso and fucked up the games

  • Better take a look @ skipdr.eu

  • cloth looks like a dolls pants :P

  • ANY BODY WATCHING, do NOT try. unless you own an older bottle of brasso like the one in the video, this wont work.. A couple years back brasso changed thier formulation, and now it actually damages cd's. any new brasso doesnt work.

  • @kattsup89 Interesting. I have herd reports that the new formula is not as good as the old one for polishing CD's/DVD's.

I should probably make an updated video.

    Thanks for the info.

    Cheers

  • @MasterGravitron I used the new brasso and it did scrach my black ops disk but it still worked

  • I watched quite a few of these cleaning movies now many of which have really bad advice, and soon as i see anyone going round in a circular motion instead of straight lines,it kills the whole credibility of process on what you are trying to achieve.

  • @Badassmoafo Im quite aware that going in circles is not best practice. However when your polishing a large amount of discs you will quickly get a very sore arm if you were to use the centre out method. There will allays be a trade off between effort and resoles.

  • @MasterGravitron

    "Trade off"

So you are well prepared to damage all your discs in your collection, and every other persons who have watched this video, just because you can't be arsed to do it right in the 1st place, then you use a cheap excuse, that cleaning in a straight line is so much harder that going round in circles lol that's priceless.enjoy your damaged collection

  • @Badassmoafo I think you are being very pedantic. This method has served me very well over the years and has never damaged a disc, In fact it dose the opposite. This is not a cleaning technique, it is a polishing technique.

If you have a better way, maybe you should put the time and effort into making a video of your own.

  • @Badassmoafo

Polishing moves are different of cleaning moves...

  • @Badassmoafo

Agree 100%, friend. I also shudder when I see paper towels, cotton rags (especially an old pair of budgie smugglers like this chap is using), toothpaste or peanut butter put in use - always ends in tears. Water, a microfibre cloth and straight centre hole to outer edge motion is the only acceptable way to *clean* a disc. A scratched disc is another story, and the use of a machine costing £1000+ in a local game/movie rental store (for a small fee) is my remedy. They look like new.

  • What shop can i buy the elbow grease from?

  • @thedei

    Google it ;-)

  • @mymarioman. Its brasso tard.dude, this video is the most genuine on cd repair

  • dude on the boxers i saw a pee stain

  • wow, that's simply amazingly simple. I KNEW it had to come down to the polish. I've tried a few methods, but you have it bang on. Thanks so much, now my CD's won't be passed up at the pawn shop. They always have this crazy idea only mirror perfect CD's will be good to sell. Now they will and I will get my money. Cheers mate.

  • do u have to use brasso or can it be any metal polish?

  • @iMapleJimmy You could try, but brasso is the best I find.

  • kayyyy yayyyyy i fixed my cd :D TYY

  • Worked brilliantly! Thanks!!!

  • What types of cloths qualify as "soft" enough? Thanks a bunch.

  • usually something old that has been washed allot will be nice and soft. This is why i used the example of underwear.

  • CDs and DVDs should not be polished in a circular motion or tangent to concentric circles from the center. Polish them perpendicular to the tangents of concentric circles. It takes longer but you'll have better luck with sensitive readers.

I use a soft buffing wheel at low revs and very low pressure with plastic polish from the auto parts store. It does a very nice job quickly and inexpensively.

  • In an ideal world yes. But very few of us have buffing wheels. I have been using this technique for many years and it has never let me down. I find using a circular motion produces good results in an acceptable time, with minimal effort. And when you have a pile of discs to fix minimal effort is very important.

  • @MasterGravitron or if you have a bunch of crap you need to pawn off real fast.. great vids.

  • I got my Brasso for Around 3.50 at home depot

  • 5*'s 4 your accent XP

  • i just knocked my xbox 360 with my modern warfare2 disk in and got a circle about an inch from the middle. will this work using brasso and cloths??

how much would you say brasso is?

  • lol I played modern warfare 2 with my pro, we did spec ops and the xbox felt on my feet, i got a big cricle scratch just like u.

i hope u will send a response if it worked with toothpaste or something because i spare money to but the cd but now its gone likely ...

  • same here. mine fell over at the perfect time...it was in the middle of loading a map : /

  • I've heard that going in circles can sometimes damage the disc further and that you're supposed to go in straight lines outward of the the inner circle

  • Its not nearly as bad as some people would have you believe. And its much easer on your arm :-)

  • works wekk m8 chers

  • It works, fixed a 360 game that had the perfect circle.

  • Brasso is available at any hardware or home improvement store.

  • where can i get this brasso?

  • Ebay, Home Depot, Etc...

  • it does work great just saved my modern warfare 2

  • ah real talk........i just f-up my xbox 360 game (yea the perfect circle) and try brasso and it worked...dident take out all the scratches but it works

  • I cant see any very big scratch before the polish!

Why you dont try polish a very damaged disc?

I think this method doesnt work!

    F***K

  • YO F**K, IT WORKS.

  • fake

  • Try it yourself before you pass judgement

  • Трусы конечно смотрятся фотогенично. Но радиальными движениями, действительно не стоит увлекаться при полировке..

Для Россиян подойдет паста ГОИ, разведенная чистым машинным маслом или вазелином (отлично работает способ).

  • BTW THANKS FOR THE VID' IT LOOKS NEWW!

  • For all ppl who want brasso, try silvo, its as effective and might be easy to find

  • i thought swirl motions damage the disc...

  • it does it puts shit load of mini scratches wich is like a scruff n stops lazer from reading ... but can be prepared if u polish and rub in a spoke kind of fashion ... centere to end

  • them swirl marks basicaly fuck ya disk up

they can be got rid of with method above :) x

  • not for soft material

  • Do they still sell the old formula?

  • hey will the new cream brasso work just as well?

  • Im not sure my self, but other people have said it dose not work as well. I recommend the old/original formula. Cheers

  • Do these techniques apply for DVD's as well. How much of improvement will it show? Does this product creates additional scratches to the DVD?? I would like to know?? Thanks??

  • Yes it apples to DVD's (Its says in the title)

The amount of improvement will depend on how badly scratched your disc is.

If you use a soft cloth it will only leave harmless swirl marks.

  • Sorry mate, im at a loss. I've never encountered this before. You may have to take it to a shop to get it polished.

  • That sounds like the the good old formula. the new one comes in a plastic bottle and is a cream.

The only thing i can suggest is that you repeat the proses and make sure to use a soft cloth, shake the can really well and rinse thoroughly after.

Is your cd a master or a burnt copy? If it is a copy the brasso might be chemically reacting with the plastic, if the disc is a budget or poor quality brand.

  • That's odd, I have not had that happen to me before. your not using that "New and improved formula" are you?

  • I suspect your cloth is not soft enough.

  • Brasso is great, however as it is a polish, it reduces scratched by removing some of the surface. Wanting to try something softer first, I had a go with a furniture wax spray to fill in the marks first - worked like a charm

  • Cd's have a full 1mm of substrate so there's plenty of tolerance to remove some of it. Be aware many waxes also have polishing agents in them as well.

    Good idea anyhow. Cheers

  • 20 minutes id rather go to game stop and get a new one

  • That's nice if you can afford it.

  • do you think i could use brasso to take scrates out of my nokia 6600 slide?

  • Sure, just use a little at a time. using a cotton tip /q tip might also be helpful.

  • juz buy a new disc... ... duh???

  • That seems rather short sighted. What if you cant buy a new disc for love or money?

  • i tries it with my wii sports that had a bunch of deep scratches. it didnt remove those but it removed all the them minor and medium sized scratches. works good for minor scratched cds

  • for big scratches u need a buffer or u can go to any workplace or at your school you have a buffer or you can take it to your dvd store they might take it out for like $2

  • what about the new brasso i looked on the internet and it said the new brasso wont work so i just want to know before i start to try

  • I had to google that myself. it seems the new formula is some sort of cream. I would stick to the old liquid formula. Its watery constancy is what makes it work so well for cd's .

  • the sad thing is i cant find the old one :( i bought the cream one and i still have to try it but i dont think it will work

  • Thank you so much, I had 2 scratched cd's, scratches were barely visible, but my xbox couldnt read them.... now i can play again ;) YAY

  • Glad to be of help :-). Because game CD/DVD's use corrupted error correction as part of the copy protection they are very susceptible to even small scratches. :-(

  • Thank You. You're My Hero you saved me $60. :)

  • Brasso works like a charm. It was able to fix major scratches and the DVD works like new again! Thank you, MasterGravitron. And to anybody not able to find it - I was able to find it at my local grocery store.

  • dam !! i just tryed this and it works incredible !!!

  • my forza 2 disc is scratched and i cant get onto nurburgring ! lol

  • you idiots, did it ever occur to you that he might ahve used brasso on this rag/underwear before and that's why it has the brasso colored stain on it -_-

  • Cheers. I keep telling people that, but there are some people on you tube that have the emotional age of a 5 year old :-(

  • rofl, theres a poop stain on that underwear

  • so where can you get brasso? canadian tire?

  • Sorry mate, i don't live in Canada so i cant say exactly. You best bet is your local hardware store. Cheers

  • you might not wanna use USED underwwear on your video.... yuck

  • Sigh... If you had read the previous comments you would know that brasso is a brown liquid and i have used this rag before.

  • just buy a disc cleaner machine for god's sake, it takes a long time to polish plus you get tired of doing this and by the way, im going to give it a try, lol!

  • I thought you weren't supposed to rub the disk in circular motion? It makes even more scratches on it. Or does it work when you go from the inside to out of the cd? I'll try this tomarrow and see if this works though~ It's my last hope for the cd that i have.

  • Rubbing in a circular motion is not bad as you may have been told, and it is much easer on your arm :-)

  • I see, but it didn't work on the Cd i tried it on lol. The scratches aren't even that bad, but it still won't play.. Oh well I'm buying a newer copy of the game anyway, kinda sucks though I don't really want to.. XD

  • Sad to hear that. Some times CDs & DVD'd can have other reading problems that aren't associated with scratches. Disc rot for example.

  • OK I tried it and it made circular scratches in the disc. Would not play. Going to try again this weekend and see what happens. (on the same disc)

  • Are you using a nice soft rag?, you might also be pressing too hard.

  • Used a microfiber cloth, pressing to hard? I am unsure. I have not yet tried again, but I will use light pressure on this next trial and polish it a longer amount of time to see if this will improve it.

  • Hi MasterGraviton does this trick work for CD/DVD PS1/2 games? also are those soft rag a girl's underware?

  • Yes it will work on any optical disc, cd, dvd ps2 game etc. Please leave the underwear subject alone. its just a rag for god sake, many people seem mystified buy the idea of a rag :-)

  • thanks

  • Do plastic buffers/polishers work as well??

  • Sorry dude, i cant say, as I've never used them.

What's the brand / Product called?

  • every other video/site that i have seen say that cleaning in a circular motion can make the disk worse.

  • The difference here is that were polishing the disc with a very fine abrasive liquid. not just removing dirt and finger prints. Cheers

  • HaHA "If you cat get it in your country....then you need to move countries" llololp;p;p;p;p;lolololololollololoooooooooollll

  • it works with furniture polish aswell =]

  • 100% works

  • i have a question, do other metal polishes work or leather polishes? great video btw

  • The only other i have tried is 'autosol' but it is a little to thick, doesn't works as well.

  • the first cloth "UNDERWEAR" looks like it has a piss stain

  • You do realise that brasso is a yellow liquid. this is also a rag i have use to polish cds before.

Further stupid comments about 'piss stains' will be removed!

  • fyi, this work's fucking great. Was doing it this afternoon to fix old XBox games. Thanks man!

  • Cheers, no worries. :-)

  • were you get brasso???

  • Many people have asked me this, unfortunately I cannot say exactly as in live in New Zealand and have different shops to the USA or UK. your best bet is a hardware store or maybe your local supper market.

  • boomy818: go to walmart they sell brasso i bought some there a couple of days a go.

  • hey does this work for scratches that go around the disc in an axial manner??

  • It will, but those are the worst type of scratches, so it will take more time and effort to polish them out.

What you can also do it get a q-tip or cotton bud (on a stick) dip it in brasso and uses it on a particularly bad scratch. Good luck.

  • Would a pair of cotton socks work?

  • Sure they would :-)

Make sure there old ones you done want any more though. The brasso will ruin them.

  • I know this goes to a little bit of extreme, but if I used a bench grinder with a cotton wheel, placing the brasso on the disc, this would eliminate the use of the "elbow grease" needed to take out deeper scratches? And would not hurt the disc? Thank you by the way for your video, nicely done.

  • An interesting idea but if you only have one bad disc to polish it might be more hassle than its worth. If you still want to go ahead, I would make sure your grinder is set to the lowest speed possible. As brasso is as thin as water and you risk it spraying everywhere. Also while you are polishing your disc, keep moving it around so your not continuously polishing the same spot.

Good luck, let me know if it works or not.

    Cheers

  • hi thx for the advise mate!

my soul calibur disk wouldnt read in my dreamcast due to very bad scratches, so i used brasso and some old soft socks and with some strong rubbing,i just cleaned the disk with brasso going in circles then i used another clean sock to buff the disk and after doing this process twice, voila the disk worked in my dreamcast!

    thx mate :)

ohh and please make sure you got a window open as it is really strong stuff and it gave me a headache :p

    thx again mate:)

  • Sorry i should have mentioned that the smell is strong.

  • my skate. is messed up... like when it says press start it keeps loading for like 10 minutes then freezez
