your suppose to apply it from the inside out in a linear motion like the spikes on a wheel not in a circular motion as demonstrated here, this is because the brasso does leave behind faint lines where you have rubbed down the top layer of the plastic, this will not effect the laser on a player from reading the discs, its the circular marks that can cause the disc to skip as it deflects the laser
@liferasta1 just to be clear brasso will remove light scratches but at the same time create faint linear marks where you have polished, its never going to be perfectly unmarked like a brand new disc if thats your expectation
@liferasta1 The problem is going from the inside out is its very inefficient if you have lots of discs to fix. Your welcome to do it your way if you think it gets a better result. I like my way for speed.
As for getting them back to "brand new" im fully aware that brasso is not fine enough for that. You would have to finish it off with a finer polish like "Cut -in- Shine" for that.
The main objective of this demo it to get the disc back to playable/copyable condition.Cheers
Been restoring some of my earlier albums today, as it was a job long-overdue. My preferred method is using the very soft cotton wool balls, and polishing the discs using autoglym super resin polish (car wax). Unbelievably good for taking out scratches and restoring the discs to a brand new condition. I had some albums which were in a pretty rough state. These now look like brand new and a mirror-finish. Good tip on using a non-slip mat. An old mouse-mat works well.
@superpiratecupcake If you want to spend the extra time and energy going form the inside to the outside edge you are welcome to. I have never found it necessary to achieve a playable/copyable disc.
I gave this an honest try (I already had the Brasso). But I had little success. It looks like you polish the disc for 2 minutes (tops) in the video. I polished mine for a good 20 minutes. It doesn't have any deep scratches just a lot of surface scuffing from riding around in the car in a CD case. It looks only marginally better. I was able to successfully copy the data from it (post-polish). I'll report on how it plays in the future (before it skipped and jittered).
@TheFozzwad Are you using the old or the new formula? The new one in the plastic bottle is not very good. Also if you need to remove a heavy amount of plastic, be sure to turn over your rag to a fresh spot and apply more brasso.
@MrTubetown Probably not with just brasso. The grit partials are a bit large to get it back to a flawless finish. You will probably have to use a fine automotive polish for that. Cheers
It's working, mate, nearly thrown away my CD, tried your trick and here we go - it's playing! The only thing I did, or actually I didn't :) is circular movement, I was doing it straight from the centre of the CD to its edge.

Agree 100%, friend. I also shudder when I see paper towels, cotton rags (especially an old pair of budgie smugglers like this chap is using), toothpaste or peanut butter put in use - always ends in tears. In an ideal world yes. But very few of us have buffing wheels. I have been using this technique for many years and it has never let me down. I find using a circular motion produces good results in an acceptable time, with minimal effort. And when you have a pile of discs to fix minimal effort is very important.
I've heard that going in circles can sometimes damage the disc further and that you're supposed to go in straight lines outward of the the inner circle
ah real talk........i just f-up my xbox 360 game (yea the perfect circle) and try brasso and it worked...dident take out all the scratches but it works
it does it puts shit load of mini scratches wich is like a scruff n stops lazer from reading ... but can be prepared if u polish and rub in a spoke kind of fashion ... centere to end
Do these techniques apply for DVD's as well. How much of improvement will it show? Does this product creates additional scratches to the DVD?? I would like to know?? Thanks??
That sounds like the the good old formula. the new one comes in a plastic bottle and is a cream.
The only thing i can suggest is that you repeat the proses and make sure to use a soft cloth, shake the can really well and rinse thoroughly after.
Is your cd a master or a burnt copy? If it is a copy the brasso might be chemically reacting with the plastic, if the disc is a budget or poor quality brand.
Brasso is great, however as it is a polish, it reduces scratched by removing some of the surface. Wanting to try something softer first, I had a go with a furniture wax spray to fill in the marks first - worked like a charm
Cd's have a full 1mm of substrate so there's plenty of tolerance to remove some of it. Be aware many waxes also have polishing agents in them as well.
i tries it with my wii sports that had a bunch of deep scratches. it didnt remove those but it removed all the them minor and medium sized scratches. works good for minor scratched cds
for big scratches u need a buffer or u can go to any workplace or at your school you have a buffer or you can take it to your dvd store they might take it out for like $2
I had to google that myself. it seems the new formula is some sort of cream. I would stick to the old liquid formula. Its watery constancy is what makes it work so well for cd's .
Glad to be of help :-). Because game CD/DVD's use corrupted error correction as part of the copy protection they are very susceptible to even small scratches. :-(
Brasso works like a charm. It was able to fix major scratches and the DVD works like new again! Thank you, MasterGravitron. And to anybody not able to find it - I was able to find it at my local grocery store.
you idiots, did it ever occur to you that he might ahve used brasso on this rag/underwear before and that's why it has the brasso colored stain on it -_-
just buy a disc cleaner machine for god's sake, it takes a long time to polish plus you get tired of doing this and by the way, im going to give it a try, lol!
I thought you weren't supposed to rub the disk in circular motion? It makes even more scratches on it. Or does it work when you go from the inside to out of the cd? I'll try this tomarrow and see if this works though~ It's my last hope for the cd that i have.
I see, but it didn't work on the Cd i tried it on lol. The scratches aren't even that bad, but it still won't play.. Oh well I'm buying a newer copy of the game anyway, kinda sucks though I don't really want to.. XD
Used a microfiber cloth, pressing to hard? I am unsure. I have not yet tried again, but I will use light pressure on this next trial and polish it a longer amount of time to see if this will improve it.
Yes it will work on any optical disc, cd, dvd ps2 game etc. Please leave the underwear subject alone. its just a rag for god sake, many people seem mystified buy the idea of a rag :-)
Many people have asked me this, unfortunately I cannot say exactly as in live in New Zealand and have different shops to the USA or UK. your best bet is a hardware store or maybe your local supper market.
I know this goes to a little bit of extreme, but if I used a bench grinder with a cotton wheel, placing the brasso on the disc, this would eliminate the use of the "elbow grease" needed to take out deeper scratches? And would not hurt the disc? Thank you by the way for your video, nicely done.
An interesting idea but if you only have one bad disc to polish it might be more hassle than its worth. If you still want to go ahead, I would make sure your grinder is set to the lowest speed possible. As brasso is as thin as water and you risk it spraying everywhere. Also while you are polishing your disc, keep moving it around so your not continuously polishing the same spot.
my soul calibur disk wouldnt read in my dreamcast due to very bad scratches, so i used brasso and some old soft socks and with some strong rubbing,i just cleaned the disk with brasso going in circles then i used another clean sock to buff the disk and after doing this process twice, voila the disk worked in my dreamcast!
thx mate :)
ohh and please make sure you got a window open as it is really strong stuff and it gave me a headache :p

The amount of improvement will depend on how badly scratched your disc is.
If you use a soft cloth it will only leave harmless swirl marks.

Glad to be of help :-). Because game CD/DVD's use corrupted error correction as part of the copy protection they are very susceptible to even small scratches. :-(

Thank You. You're My Hero you saved me $60. :)

Brasso works like a charm. It was able to fix major scratches and the DVD works like new again! Thank you, MasterGravitron. And to anybody not able to find it - I was able to find it at my local grocery store.

you idiots, did it ever occur to you that he might ahve used brasso on this rag/underwear before and that's why it has the brasso colored stain on it -_-
nykspree8 2 years ago
Cheers. I keep telling people that, but there are some people on you tube that have the emotional age of a 5 year old :-(
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
rofl, theres a poop stain on that underwear
StraggleFire 2 years ago
so where can you get brasso? canadian tire?
roguewaw12 2 years ago
Sorry mate, i don't live in Canada so i cant say exactly. You best bet is your local hardware store. Cheers
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
you might not wanna use USED underwwear on your video.... yuck
Tommuthy 2 years ago
Sigh... If you had read the previous comments you would know that brasso is a brown liquid and i have used this rag before.
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
just buy a disc cleaner machine for god's sake, it takes a long time to polish plus you get tired of doing this and by the way, im going to give it a try, lol!
lionfury88 2 years ago
I thought you weren't supposed to rub the disk in circular motion? It makes even more scratches on it. Or does it work when you go from the inside to out of the cd? I'll try this tomarrow and see if this works though~ It's my last hope for the cd that i have.
korinakorinakorina 2 years ago
Rubbing in a circular motion is not bad as you may have been told, and it is much easer on your arm :-)
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
I see, but it didn't work on the Cd i tried it on lol. The scratches aren't even that bad, but it still won't play.. Oh well I'm buying a newer copy of the game anyway, kinda sucks though I don't really want to.. XD
korinakorinakorina 2 years ago
Sad to hear that. Some times CDs & DVD'd can have other reading problems that aren't associated with scratches. Disc rot for example.
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
OK I tried it and it made circular scratches in the disc. Would not play. Going to try again this weekend and see what happens. (on the same disc)
kahuna825 2 years ago
Are you using a nice soft rag?, you might also be pressing too hard.
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
Used a microfiber cloth, pressing to hard? I am unsure. I have not yet tried again, but I will use light pressure on this next trial and polish it a longer amount of time to see if this will improve it.
kahuna825 2 years ago
Hi MasterGraviton does this trick work for CD/DVD PS1/2 games? also are those soft rag a girl's underware?
Zero4ph 2 years ago
Yes it will work on any optical disc, cd, dvd ps2 game etc. Please leave the underwear subject alone. its just a rag for god sake, many people seem mystified buy the idea of a rag :-)
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
thanks

Do plastic buffers/polishers work as well??
EnrikMolina 2 years ago
Sorry dude, i cant say, as I've never used them.
What's the brand / Product called?
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
every other video/site that i have seen say that cleaning in a circular motion can make the disk worse.
emperorofmuffins 2 years ago
The difference here is that were polishing the disc with a very fine abrasive liquid. not just removing dirt and finger prints. Cheers

i have a question, do other metal polishes work or leather polishes? great video btw
batista6224 2 years ago
The only other i have tried is 'autosol' but it is a little to thick, doesn't works as well.
MasterGravitron 2 years ago
the first cloth "UNDERWEAR" looks like it has a piss stain
DannyCruzz 2 years ago
You do realise that brasso is a yellow liquid. this is also a rag i have use to polish cds before.
Further stupid comments about 'piss stains' will be removed!

were you get brasso???
boomy818 3 years ago
Many people have asked me this, unfortunately I cannot say exactly as in live in New Zealand and have different shops to the USA or UK. your best bet is a hardware store or maybe your local supper market.
MasterGravitron 3 years ago
boomy818: go to walmart they sell brasso i bought some there a couple of days a go.
MyGamingAddiction 3 years ago
hey does this work for scratches that go around the disc in an axial manner??
gunmunkey1331 3 years ago
It will, but those are the worst type of scratches, so it will take more time and effort to polish them out.
What you can also do it get a q-tip or cotton bud (on a stick) dip it in brasso and uses it on a particularly bad scratch. Good luck.
MasterGravitron 3 years ago
Would a pair of cotton socks work?
kahuna825 3 years ago
Sure they would :-)
Make sure there old ones you done want any more though. The brasso will ruin them.
MasterGravitron 3 years ago
I know this goes to a little bit of extreme, but if I used a bench grinder with a cotton wheel, placing the brasso on the disc, this would eliminate the use of the "elbow grease" needed to take out deeper scratches? And would not hurt the disc? Thank you by the way for your video, nicely done.
mizzbehavin1 3 years ago
An interesting idea but if you only have one bad disc to polish it might be more hassle than its worth. If you still want to go ahead, I would make sure your grinder is set to the lowest speed possible. As brasso is as thin as water and you risk it spraying everywhere. Also while you are polishing your disc, keep moving it around so your not continuously polishing the same spot.
Good luck, let me know if it works or not.
Cheers

hi thx for the advise mate!
my soul calibur disk wouldnt read in my dreamcast due to very bad scratches, so i used brasso and some old soft socks and with some strong rubbing,i just cleaned the disk with brasso going in circles then i used another clean sock to buff the disk and after doing this process twice, voila the disk worked in my dreamcast!
thx mate :)
ohh and please make sure you got a window open as it is really strong stuff and it gave me a headache :p
thx again mate:)
