yes they are unecessary... it is only for playing around... however in Linux you can turn them off in an easier way and they do not burden up your system like Windows thingies do... thus you have the freedom...

I have Xubuntu 9.04 and it's awesome. It's so fast.... Also Ubuntu it's fast too, but I want that my pc runs more fast... I don't like the compiz.... but, the video was cool. Now I want install compiz on my pc. Wow!!!  Visit my channel, I made the Xubuntu Logo in Blender on Xubuntu.

Compiz uses less RAM because the window textures are not stored in RAM but instead in video RAM (i.e. graphics card memory). On a desktop you might as well use it if you've got the dedicated memory.

This is the ubuntu i downloaded and first started using a few days ago, all i can say is WOW! no messing around with drivers disks and 'this program isnt responding, send error report' or pesky virus scans and updates to slow the system down, theres no unwanted rubbish taking up system memory either!

This is just what i always wanted, windows xp will collect dust in my cd wallet, £97 that cost me a few years ago! ouch!

Bullshit. Compiz has a lot of bells and whistles but it has a very little practical comfort in use.

It actually has a lot of practical use: with the scale windows effect providing an easy way to see/select previews of all your windows, Expo for easy VD management, the various accessibility features like trail focus and zoom... Yes, it DOES have a lot of pretty effects, but it's also got a lot of functions that make it easier to use the computer.

Salut georgeo82, merci beaucoup pour cette video, moi j'ai kubuntu 9.04 et j'aurai une question : Est-ce que tous les effets que l'on voit sur ta video sont inclus de base ou bien tu les rajoutes? Car moi j'ai bien cherché dans les effets de bureau je ne trouve pas l'écriture en feu ni les vagues. Peux-tu me dire ce que tu en penses?

Les effets ils sont inclus, mais il n'inclus pas le manager d'efets pour les activer (etrange...). allez synaptics et chercez compizconfig settings manager pour les activer. Ou:

sudo aptitude search ccsm (compizconfigsettingmanager)

sudo aptitude search simple-ccsm (meme, avec moins options)

Merci beaucoup, j'ai suivi ce que tu m'as dit et ça marche très bien, j'ai réussi à faire marcher les effets que je voulais. J'ai aussi pris Emerald comme gestionnaire de fenêtres et je suis très satisfait du résultat. Il est en effet étrange que les effets soient inclus mais qu'il faille aller chercher un gestionnaire ailleurs. Merci encore.
