  • HOLY CRAP TMNT 2 Secet Of the Ooze on VHS was $22 new!?

    Damn I won't complain about Blu-ray!

Wait a sec...Seems like movies and cost of living hasn't changed since.

    Sad..

  • lol he proposed to her in a Burger King

  • LEARN THE FACTS ABOUT AIDS! YOU CAN EVEN HUG "THEM!"

  • Whoah, the Soviet Union's having financial troubles? Could this be the end?

  • @Philkid3 Yes. It was dissolved about a week after these aired.

  • I was 6. Lemme tell ya: I really needed to see this particular video. I had a vhs of Christmas specials from this year and, sadly, it was lost. I love the specials, but have been a commercial junkie since before this even! Thank you so much for this one and might I say, if someone could get ahold of the commercials here, as broadcast by KMSP Minneapolis/St. Paul, I'd lose my mind.

  • I can't seem to find any articles on Sound Playground. How long did they last?

  • I was 11 then....memories

  • everything looks so yummy in the Cool Whip ad!

man, those Campbell's Kids were some hep cats

I sure everybody tuned into "Circus of the Stars" just to see Alfonso Ribiero in a leotard

the graphics for Sound Playground were pretty cool for that time

  • I was 7 back in this day

  • Whose the voiceover in the Sound Playground commercial? I hear him a lot

  • @blkplaguelmc Jackson Beck, of course. If you watch "G.I. Joe", you'll know. (and knowing is half the battle)

  • Never knew there was a Mother Goose and Grim cartoon...or that they were doing Circus of Stars by this time.

I can see why McDonald's wouldn't be able to have their own holiday special tradition. That's mostly the area Disney staked out.

    I like the Campbell's commercial.

  • @.@ Bring back that BK stake burger now!

  • @OvercomingOwls lol and vcr's cost $250!!!!

  • Wow! Thank you so much for posting this. I was actually watching this special on CBS back in '91. I was 8 at the time. My mother taped it for me so I could watch Rudolph over and over again. I feel like I was put in a time machine...remember it like it was yesterday. I just got very nostalgic. Merry Christmas!

  • These ads were on a tape of Christmas specials that was older than I was when I started watching it (I was born in 1992). These really take me back.

  • Oh, I remember The Wish that Changed Christmas. I think it was based on a book or something.

I remember hating that new CBS Special Presentation logo at the time. I still don't think it's that great.

Also I'm the only person on Earth that thought Star Trek V was a decent movie. Not a GREAT movie, but a decent one. It was way better than Star Trek: The Motion Picture, at any rate.

  • @skystarless I thought it was an OK movie too, mostly because it didn't take itself too seriously. And for the Uhura scenes.

  • I love that last BK commercial. I could see ending it with the woman winking to the screen: "He went to WALMART!"

These commercials are from the best Christmas I had as a kid. I can't watch these without getting swept away by the memories.

  • More memories from my area. My mom bought a TV from the Newington Sound Playground around this time. They're long gone, bought out by Bernie's who went out of business a few years ago. Gerry Brooks moved over to WVIT in the mid 90's and is still there minus the mustache, and most of his hair.

  • I managed to get all 4 Beauty and the Beast toys and I believe they're still in a trunk somewhere that has most of my novelty and happy meal stuff. Beast's tail broke off, but otherwise they're all intact.

  • wow seeing commercials right around my first christmas awesome!

  • You have to love any jingle that's brave enough to have the line "Here's the chorus".

  • West Springfield!!! My dad grew up there; hardly anyone outside of MA has heard of it.

I wonder what that countdown was for...

Hey, YouTube's new "snow" app makes the Christmas commercials even better!

  • I don't rember who the heck Riders in the Sky were???

  • 7UP

  • I used to have a Tonka truck.

  • Thanks for posting em brah...Love watching things that are my age Lol..born April 5th 1986..
