We used to see this exact type of drill, with 3 missiles, while riding the school bus to school in about '71 in Orange County, Ca. I always thought we were under attack and wondered why no one else on the bus was freaking out.
My Dad was transferred to SF-88 in 1958. One day while Dad was off duty taking me out to the beach, the sirens started to blare, the missiles were up in a flash. A false alarm. A civilian aircraft had not identified itself fast enough and the Nike's stood ready to take it down, an unforgettable day.
I grew up in Naperville, IL and we had a Nike missile site on the North side of town. C-70 was it's designation in the Chicago defense ring. It closed in 1964 and once abandon, we kids used to explore the cavernous empty magazines. The site is now a multi purpose sports park run by the Naperville Park District. The park's appropriate name.... "Nike Park".

This video reminds me of the old days when in, 1965 Thur 1968 I was station at the Nike sight in Danvers / Topsfield Ma.

That's about 1/4 the speed that they would raise into position when the system was in service.
