You can't appreciate how good Hugo Weaving is in this unless you understand the context of this scene; You have to see the whole film. Tony Martin was also riveting as Detective Sergeant John Steele. "Almost the entire film takes place in a police interrogation room, with some short flashback sequences, and the cast consists primarily of three key actors - Hugo Weaving, Tony Martin, and Aaron Jeffery" (Wikipedia). Craig Monahan's 'The Interview' is a great thriller.
How can you have no idea, if it was "left up to the viewer?" If it was left up to the viewer, then they didn't give you an answer, so there's nothing for you to have no idea about.
After seeing the film, I think that was either the look of a man who had just gotten away with murder, or just the look of a man who'd confused and confounded the police and subsequently got his confidence back. So in short . . . I have no idea whether he did it or not.
An alternate ending of the film was featured on the DVD release. In this version, Eddie Rodney Fleming is seen hitchhiking along a desolate road. A car stops and Barry Walls (Caton) offers him a ride. Fleming accepts and they drive away, followed at a distance by Steele (Martin) on his motorcycle, no doubt intending to enforce some vigilante justice.
What's the point of writing "CONTAINS SPOILER" in the description after you already spoiled the movie in the first sentence?

I always thought that Hugo Weaving looked like Nicholas Hope from Bad Boy Bubby...

It wasn't made explicit whether or not he did the murder. It was pretty open ended and was up to the viewer.
I myself have no idea.
I remember seeing this movie on late at night once, it was excellent. I've got the DVD now!

Exactly as the director intended, and a very good choice, in my opinion.

A very good choice.

Yes.
If it had ended, right after Eddy (Hugo Weaving) said "I'm no murderer you stupid bastard", then it would have been more clear.
But the director did something more artistic and made the film longer giving doubts to the viewer.
One implication was that: Jackson does not shake Eddy's hand, implicates that Jackson does not believe Eddy is innocent.
When Steele pulls out the tape recorder on HIS Interviewer. I felt it was a message stating "The truth can be interpreted differently".
