  • What dialect of Armenian is this??? I am Persian and I'm learning some Eastern Armenian but this is hard for me to understand, yet it is filled with Persian words! Even more than eastern armenian!

  • @Pahlevuni - My dear friend, this song was written about 250 years ago by Sayat Nova, the greatest Armenian gusans (ashugs). He had been living in Tiflis (Georgia). So, it is not modern Eastern Armenian language

  • @60BearPolar Thanks so much for your response! To be honest, these persian words and phrases contribute a lot of beautiful imagery, it would be nice if they existed in modern eastern armenian!

  • No one sings this song as him.Perfect.

  • Aznavour the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest

  • ay charl jan amot ches anum dra het xosum es?

  • This is originally a love song by Sayat Nova. He making references comparing her with Leyla (Leyla And Majnun arab romance story)

This line basically means the person who sees her will turn insane.

  • I consider Charles Aznavour to be a gift to the world from France and Armenian immigrants. Without those 2 contributors, I think Aznaovur would not have developed to the poet, songwriter, actor, singer, writer, diplomat, writer and humanitarian that he is. If he were Assyrian, with what the Turks did to them, I think he would have been just the same, so enjoy his work, and there is no reason to make Assyrians angry with your preferences. I try to be a good Armenian, and you be a good Assyrian

  • shad lav yerq e,VIDEON al shad lav e,,abres

  • Thank you sir for your video. I've come (sadly) across many people who had no idea that Mr. Aznavour is Armenian as much as he is French. I am an Assyrian and (unfortunately) I prefer the Armenian language (which I don't speak, but my father did) to the Assyrian language -- by saying this, I've created many Assyrian enemies! In a 1968 performance in Paris (if I'm correct), Mr, Aznavour performed a French song as a French performer, but then he exited the stage in an Armenian dance... I love you!

  • Aznavour is the best!!!

His songs are from the heart!!!!

  • SUPER MERCI la famille AZNAVOUR

    quelle famille merveilleuse ...

  • You are correct, but I was not trying to make a political video. I wanted to show Aznavour's attachments to Armenia, and these are the photos I found. I believe Aznavour is one of the best examples on how an Armenian should conduct himself in the diaspora. He contributed to both his geographical country and to his ancestral homeland. May the politics sort itself out with the Armenian genius that allows us win the chess championships year after year, and God's grace.

  • @meandpepsi ... I understand you, and I congratulate you because of the video... I appreciated a lot... but I want all Armenian politicians to go HELL, specially Sargsyan and his gangsters in Armenia, as well as Israeli politicians... Long life to both Armenian and Jewish people!!! Sorry, I'm Jewish -:) .. Yaakov

  • Charle Aznavour is not only a beloved

international artist; he is our best Patriot

    Armenian Ambassadeur for whom the

    the Armenian nation is again in great need during the actual critical period;

veratartsir sireli Charle, azkit kez bedk ouni.

  • I read Aznavour's autobiography when I was 14 (Aznavoure Aznavouri Masin) and cannot even count how many times have re-read it ever since.

Whenever I say I am Armenian and people don't know who Armenians are I say Aznavour's name and everyone recognises instantly.

Sayat Nova's poems/songs become even more beautiful and breathtaking with such a brilliant performance of father and daughter. Thank you for sharing it!

  • Aznavour, our living Legend is perfectly singing with his daughter Seda a sweet song

of an absent legend Sayat Nova.

    Armenian Soul never dies.

  • Charle Aznavour is singing this song in his father's language!!! His father was armenian living in Georgia!!!

  • chem gokni lselov!!

  • Unique, singing in his mother language

  • Long live CHARLE AZNAVOUR!!! Our hero

  • Sayat Nova Übersetzung Yes Ko Ghimetn Chim Gidi

  • part 2:Auf deinen Lippen liegen Zuckerkristalle

  • part 4: Über dich sollte man sprechen

  • This song is a cure for every sickness .try to hear it 3 times a day ....Love it ...

  • Armenia is beautiful please keep it beautiful. this is where God gave 2nd chance to human race.(ARARAT)

  • Sayat Nova one of the greatest armenians.and mr.Aznavour.i love him and he will always stay in my heart-he is helping armenia none stop.GOD bless him.

  • Sayat Nova always will be greatest & Aznavour in heart of every Armenian. I hope he is aware of it. I miss Armenia so much its hurts. i miss barks of the trees, cracks on the walls, puddles on asphalt, aroma of the air in the mountains...

  • Akhper jan, I checked to see who you are, and because I respect people's right for free self expression and thought, I will let your entry stand. Aznavour would help Armenia regardless of who's president. Let's let this page be a place where we celebrate what he did for the entire world, for France and Armenians all over the world. I don't support what the Armenian leaders did to their population, but I would not call Aznavour the type of names you gave. The man doing more than many others.

  • Congratulating and shaking assasins'(who has killed 13 or possibly more of his own people) hand is not a good or upright person's attribute, no matter how much good he has done.

  • youre ignorant! sorry nothing else. =\GO find out first who he is and what he has done... then talk.

  • I would never think someone will say such a thing about Aznavour after everything that he has done for Armenia.

  • wear your glasses gradpa or ma and read it again what I wrote.

  • pepsi jan, like you go back to barak boyin, i come back to this, again and again... thank you, tsavt tanem...

  • Gugu jan. I love Aznavour. I absolutely do, but for me your Barak Boyin song is better than this one. You did a great job on it. I'm glad you enjoy this. Many Aznavour fan friends of mine have told me they enjoy it. I have another one with Aznavour singing a line or so in Hayeren. I will post it soon.

  • am looking forward to it, pepsi jan, the sooner the better, vertchapes mer charles-e ....tsi tchi...;))

  • Can u tell me the name of the song that you have? I dont believe that he has more Armenian songs. Moreover, this song actually belongs to Seda and is from her Armenian album. I have this album on a tape thats why i can not post the other fantastic songs of Seda sung in Armenian. i wish they all listened to her Sari Gyalin or Dle Yaman or Gusa Ashot's Voch mi tsaghik qo burmonqy chuni. Seda's voice is perfect for Armenian songs. And she has no French accent in Armenian, I guess it is her 1 lang.

  • In my opinion Aznavour set's up an almost perfect example on how we should behave in the diaspora. We Armenians have a unique opportunity to contribute to the improvement of the entire world because of the size and position of our diaspora. He's 100% French and 100% Armenian, and contributed so much to both parties. The beautiful thing is that he did not have to sacrifice one for the other. He did not have to.

  • I could not have agreed more.

  • GOD blessed Armenian nation by creating such an amazing human being and outstanding artist like Aznavour.

Incredible performance, I am simply speechless.

GOD bless you Charles, keep overwhelming our hearts with your talent, long life to you Maestoso !

  • When you comment about Aznavour like this, please remember France too. He said it right when he told the French TV that if there were no Armenian Genocide, he would have been the world's most famous Turkish singer.

  • I agree with you. France is a great country and is one of the countries where you say I am Armenian they smile at you and respect you. I am married to frenchman and so is my aunt. They are great people. Vive la France!

  • Love the French+France!

Anytime I say that I am an Armenian in France, the first thing they mention is Charles Aznavour and they also treat you extremely well. That happened to me so many times in France!

It's obvious that they admire the man and Armenian people in general for all of their contributions to France.

  • You are so right. Single handedly, with the power of his words and his music he achieved goals for us Armenians that decades of political work would not have achieved. I cannot believe his concerts are not packed with grateful Armenians wherever he goes. Aznavour set the perfect example on how Armenians should behave in the diaspora. He's 100% Armenian and 100% French. He used his French Armenian upbringing to help both groups equally. I'm going to be like him when I'm 84 too.

  • Believe me-not only in FRance! Wherever you go in Europe!the absolutely same I can say about the Switzerland , especially the French part of it (Geneva, Lausanne, or Italian-part or even Swiss-allemand!)

To be an Armenian-in Europe it means absolutely different , than for example to "try to feel"as an Armenian for example in Russia! On this country the locals nowadays hate anything which doesn't sound russian, and don't trust any State-propaganda about the"Rus-Arm-Friendship,partnership"ect.

  • the legend of Armenia the best artist

  • Wonderful performance!

    Abris!

  • PERFECT PERFECTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • shat shat lavne esi apres

  • where can i download the song!? great video

  • You can download the flv player free from the web. Then you can download this or any other youtube clip, and play it back with the flv player. I think there are other options available too. Search Google for "Downloading youtube videos". I purchased a CD called "Menk" with this song from Los Angeles.

  • No this is not in Grabar. Sayat Nova used to live in Tiflis (now Tbilisi Georgia) where they had compeletely different Arm dialect in 17-19 centuries. Tiflis was under Persian Azeri rule until the Russian takeover in 1801. Armenians became majority in the city in 19 century up to 1932. Today Armenians in Tiflis understand the language Sayat Nova spoke, but their dialect is very close now to literature Eastern Armenian and we have no problem in Yerevan understanding Tbilisi Armenians.

  • I don't know where do I begin, I'm not speak French language but when I'm listen to aznavour I feel what he says, it's very clear for me, because my heart translate the song, every day I wish If I can speak French language because I love this language and I love you France and I love Armenian.

  • Aznavour - indeed an "infatigable" fighter for the GREAT ARMENIAN cause, in fact an ARMENIAN Napoleon of 20-21st century... indeed a formidable and GREAT MAN !

A Guarding Angel of all ARMENIANS world wide.

    BRAVO MONSIEUR AZNAVOUR !

  • only one word PERFECT!!!

  • It's strange but the little French I know now is largely because I wanted to know what Charles Aznavours songs (English versions) meant in their original French! Seeme I'm not the only one!!!

  • You're right. I listened to the French version of Aznavour songs all my life, and with the internet, I downloaded the lyrics of his French songs, and started translating them. Now, when I read French text, I understand about 80% of the words, all because of Aznavour's work. He deserves the highest levels of official medals that the French government gave him. You'll also be very surprised to see that many French words are also English.
