Just stumbled onto this and is a very fine tune. . .I'am 64 and can remember some of these tunes thru the years. ... Thanks for the TUNES. . .real old !!!
The reference to Henry Ford is there because he was strongly anti-Semite and until the Nazis really became notorious by the late 1930s, he had no hesitation in saying so.
1927. what is it about this aged picture of these glamorous kids and this haunting jazz melody that makes this moment in time look so wonderful?
i doubt a video containing a picture of a group of kids from 2007 with miley cyrus playing in the background could ever dare to have the same effect. bleh.
MY Great Grandmother used to dance to this as a little girl, when she'd visit rich relatives in Shreveport. Once, Palesteena came on Public Radio. She broke into a very good Charleston, & later told us there were recordings of a Yiddish Charleston. Decades later, when we were helping close up the house she'd danced in...one of the last grand mansions on the grandest boulevard...we found the record this is on. It's safely archived, now, in a cousin's St.-Jean-Cap-Ferrat Villa.
So do I. I have it recorded in my DVR and sometimes I'll just let it play in the background. I love the soundtrack and some of the dialog is just too funny. Great cover of 'Minnie the Moocher' too...
"Ale to banda" (I hope I phrased that right) What a group of revelers and what a pose...SUCH ATTITUDE! Too bad there isn't a video of them dancing to this great song.
I enjoyed the song but I LOVE THIS PHOTO! Where on earth did you find it? I would have loved to have been at that party. You always find the perfect photo for your songs. Thanks...
GREAT clip! I heard a different version of this song on the radio (Doctor Demento) twenty-some years ago with the final line changed to "Even Ku Klux Kleagles do the Yiddishe Charleston now."
The reference to Henry Ford is funny, because in his day Ford was infamous as a virulent anti-Semite...he ran a newspaper which specialised in anti-Semitic propoganda.
I was so happy with this photo find: With my eyes(!) they look if they had just danced this music; what's more - the date of the picture is precisely the same as the date of recording: 1927.

Just as he sings: Yiddishe Charleston -- Chiddishe (surprising) Charleston. Great fun. Lovely photo of a party dressed up for the Purim Festival.
