  • Till this day I deeply regrate having sold mine! :-(

I once saw a website that red "This site is dedicated to the best car ever built". so True....

  • Wow, talk about toe adjustment

  • How much was insurence for this?

  • That car has a very slow heart rate.

  • I like watching this. Wish I had it on mine, I`m sure it must make a huge difference when cornering.

Those wheels aren`t too bad either.

  • the new 750 has 4 way steering

  • I still remember in Germany just how quickly you could change lanes in this beast....850CSi was just amazing...

  • If I recall there was a test process in the original repair manual. No need for extra software or anything like that. Similar to the older Nissan 300ZX with 4 wheel steering.

Extremely cool feature but abandoned idea. Have not heard of any recent BMW's using it.

Newer systems such as active steering, active roll stab making it outdated and expensive plus too complex.

a unique feature for sure as long as it is working !

  • Nope. BMW's AHK which is patended by Seimens is far beyond the systems used by others. It was (and is) very expensive as an option and was only used in BMW's flagship 8-series. However, it will be an option once again for the 2009 760iL. At $132,000, the 760iL is priced similarly to what the higher-end V12 8-series went for.

  • Honda's 3rd generation 4WS was superior to BMW/Siemens AHK in everything except weight.

Honda's never needed repair but it was heavier which affected speed.

  • In the end Honda changed it's 4WS to a lighter version in the 4th generation up that more resembled the Super HICAS from Nissan-significant lesser weight was achieved, more speed/performance was gained but that system broke down a LOT-corroded wires and such. So, Honda abandoned it altogether. The 3rd generation was the best but was too heavy and to implement that now would take a hit on mpg.

  • didnt mitsubushi have one on there 3000gt?

  • Yeah they did and they had AWD.

  • 3rd Gen Prelude was the best.

It was bullet proof. So much so that it still works today (I have one). No error codes, sensor failures etc.

Honda discontinued due to costs and target market for Prelude was too cheap to justify continuing providing it.

Fact is it worked and still works. BMW providing it only for highest end vehicles justify it as a issue of cost rather than a gimmick (which the great unwashed thought it to be) when Honda first introduced it on the Prelude.

  • @crxdelsolsir

+1 to what you said. Had two 3rd gens now, one 20 yrs old, and the second ws 18 yrs old....fully mechanical 4WS.....loved it, and never went rong. Unlike the computerised systems in 4th gens and 5th gens, and other cars.

Still not found another car that puts a smile on my face in the same way....n i got my last one for £450. LOL

  • The new 750's have it.

  • Sekse, kaip ir autosporte, svarbiausia negailėti pinigų gerai ir kokybiškai gumai.

  • What did you use to control it when shooting this vid? I have not found any third-party software to control and test the AHK on my own CSi (the AHK is locked right now due to previous under voltage condition, which often has this effect). Suggestions, anyone?

  • The AHK system can be diagnosed and tested (as in the video) with the BMW Group Tester one (GT1). This is what BMW dealers use.

You can build such a system for yourself: You need a DK diagnostic head (yellow head - search eBay for "bmw gt1") and a computer running VMware with BMW DIS. The yellow head is rather expensive, though...

  • Thank you very much, will check this out!

  • impressive

  • lol OMG I have never seen something like that!! Is this stock ?!?!

  • AHK was stock on the euro 850CSi (1285 cars made). The USA version (225 made) had to live without it. With the coming of the CSi, AHK became a (very expensive) option for the regular 8 series. Due to the high price a non-CSi 8 series with AHK is a very rare thing.

  • The Nissan sports cars had a similar system too, it is called

HICAS: High Capacity Actively Controlled Steering. Witch is almost the same thing as AHK.
