  • DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO PLAY THIS ON PIANO AND/OR HAVE THE SHEET MUSIC!? PLEASSSEEEEEEEEE I LOVE THIS SOO MUCH! <3

  • @Nella484 I found the chords for it at bettylou site

  • Браво, мистер Ферри! Душа разрывается...

  • Masterpiece!

  • Great solo from Andy Mackay

  • ...GODS OF GODS..!

  • Our childhood heroes turn out to be assholes. we have to get over that. I'm not that great ever.

  • Bryan Ferry oozes class, in his dress, in his demeanor on stage and he doesn't take all of the spotlight. Look at how he walks away from the microphone and off state as soon as he finishes whistling and when the sax solo starts (5:42). That is class written in stone.

  • The last album bearing the hand of Brian Eno, but without him on any of the recordings.

  • Sadly, I remember seeing (I think it was on MTV. {hard to admit that I watched that station at all}) that in England when Punk Rock was becoming king that there was a HUGE backlash against Bryan Ferry and his over produced type Rock. Sad but true.

  • @nightowlhunter2 Yeah, a huge backlash was building steam in '75, and after '77, nearly everybody hated soft-core-glam.....with good reason I suppose. Bolan died, and Bowie went industrial/ambient, and the only band carrying the flag was Japan, who then went synthpop with Numan and The Human League and Bowie after he and Pop parted ways, with Scary Monsters.

  • Sadly, I remember seeing (I think it was on MTV. {hard to admit that I watched that station at all}) that in England when Punk Rock was becoming king that there was a HUGE backlash against Bryan Ferry and his over produced type Rock. Sad but true. Very Sad Indeed because they were one of the (at least in my opinion) trurly great Rock Bands out there. Innovative, bluesy, classical and everthing else molded into one of the most original bands ever to touch the face of the earth.l

  • @nightowlhunter2 I was so touched to read your comment and totally agree with your opinion. Roxy Music are without doubt one of the greatest bands ever This song makes me want to cry it is just so lovely and hearing them play it live is amazing. Viva Roxy Music

  • I saw this tour in 1979 in Cleveland, Ohio. BF was super cool in his red suit. For the encore he came out without his jacket,smoking..... It seems like yesterday. I wish I knew now what I didn't know then ..... .

  • Vienna/ Austria/ Europe.

  • Anthony Price suit and blusher. Go Bryan.

  • I'm just about to seing come true one of my biggest dreams: listening to this song in Paris!!!!

  • This is a beautiful performance of this song, so thanks for sharing. This is one of my favourite Roxy Music songs.

Its a pity that the singer is in favour of hunting.

  • BTW. I LOVE his politics. He hates political correctness and is a Conservative. Bravo for him in a Liberal business.

  • Don't be ridiculous. The days of pop / rock musicians being so called left wing revolutionaries is long gone, and even then it was a pretence.

  • @Davidb327 Bloodsports are always hip with geordies,Usually confined to pubs or in the street though.

  • Bryan Ferry is hardly a typical geordie, and neither is his dimwit of a son.

  • @Davidb327

haha, well said on both points.

  • @Davidb327 Bryan is a total spunk but I agree that Otis is a dimwit!

  • Ila Mirabila

  • If you can say that after hearing 1 line of the whole couplet, what a genius you are.He skipped the whole thing for French.

  • : ) No, i was referring to the album version.. i know it by hearth. It wasn't a criticism, definitely my fave song from Stranded and by Roxy Music.

  • Impressive and suggestive song. Great.

The way Ferry pronounces latin, is queer by the way.

  • I remember! All these moments !

  • No ego, that's one of the best things about Bryan. Or at least I should say, no ego during the show itself. When ever there is a solo he walks away so the audience will spotlight on him and not Bryan. Just as he did here at 5:42, watch him walk almost off stage so everybody would listen and focus on Andy. Class, that's what Roxy Music is all about, class, style and beautifully written songs.

  • Nah, he just went to drink a pint of Newcastle Brown!

  • Oh PS: Eastern Europe. Have you ever seen Czech TV? If you want a VOMITRON like reaction, try it.

  • I am currently visiting Australia, and this song just brings it home as to how aweful it would be if the European continent was also Americanised and turned into a MacDonalds, Fried Chicken, & warehouses-full-of-Chinese-rubbish clone of as well. US foreign policy has acted like a lobotomy to this place. Europe must be spared.

  • I'm sorry to tell you (and I am sorry to tell you), but you're 20 years too late. And its worse than America. Much worse. Eastern Europe however is still Europe, so all is not lost. I have a feeling if you visit Sweden or Holland or Germany or England now you'll probably want to kill yourself, sad to say... its all been pissed away.

  • Thats really depressing. I had some idea that the heads of Europe sucked dogshite, especially the Scandinavian countries, which are the origins of trailer park white trash after all.

  • Yes, good comment. Australia is just like you say. Europe is still Europe.

  • great version

  • Dramatic. I think Mr Ferry must have been studying Edith Piaf!

  • Magnificent! I love the performance of this song when Bryan ,w /cigarette takes off his dinner jacket and flings it over his shoulder and walks off into the moonlight !

  • als ik dit nummer hoor hoor ik emotie

  • it makes me so sad...

  • Damn those germans!

  • Andy rocks

  • aviatrix911, i have enjoyed that song for years without knowing the english interpretation, so thanks , you seem to be quite a fan. cheers.

  • You're welcome, del. And yes, I am a big fan...guilty as charged, I guess. ;-)

  • I have been wondering what the english lyrics since I was about 19 yo Thank You but it is the foreign lyrics that made it my favorite Roxy Music song but I always wanted to know the interpretation.I am now 52yo

  • There's no more time for us nothing is there for us to share but yesterdayxx

  • great song, I wish I knew what the French verse is !

  • I think they are: Tous ces moments (all those moments) Perdus dans l`enchantement (lost in wonder) Qui ne reviendront jamais (that will never come back) Pas d'aujourd'hui pour nous (no today for us) Pour nous il n'y a rien (for us there is nothing) A partager sauf le passé (to share but yesterdays) Tous ces moments (all those moments) Perdus dans l`enchantement (lost in wonder) Qui ne reviendront, oh jamais (that will never come back) Jamais, jamais, jamais (never, never, never)
  • thank you for the translation I fliunked French in School.

  • The Latin lyrics to this song is much the same. Hear my dance version of "A Song for Europe" at myspace/bowietribute1 which is on burningskyrecords :)

  • That's a nice translation - Bryan sort of translates the English lyric, but not literally and you do the same back, chapeau, as they say in France.

Spotters' badge to any swot who can spot the two pronunciation errors when he sings in French - they ain't easy and one of them he gets right first time and wrong on the repeat.

But mustn't be too hard - after all Bryan is a Geordie and they can't speak English properly, let alone French :-)

How did he father that prick Otis?

  • Comment removed

  • lazspk - That was indeed one of them :-)

  • Andy MacKay - Sax God

  • I want a suit like that?

    What is that made of?

  • Charisma-- Think it's leather. He had one made in almost every color apparently. He models it in:

    Pink (Angel Eyes vid)

    Black (Trash vid)

Acid yellow (Same Old Scene vid)

and the red seen here. Did I miss any?

  • Actually I have a vague recollection that his suits were made from sharkskin. I could be wrong though

  • The Lime Green one in Dance Away

  • Still so musically powerful and so so well sung. What a fantastic live show it was. Saw them twice. Mother of pearl has to follow this - so beautiful. And Brian Ferry always ready to share the spotlight. Up with the all-time greats even now.

  • To ramsenacka: Yeah, a great idea! I can almost hear Zarah's dark voice singing "jamais, jamais, jamais". That would have sounded fantastic.

  • Great song.

But Dave Gahan's version is fantastic too :D

  • Lovely song, lovely performance. Thanks for posting this.

  • I really love this song and has allways done, but I can´t help having this a bit perverted dream of if Zarah Leander had done a cover on it - Forgive me (but admit it would have been great)

  • What an excellent performance!

  • yeh the best ever
