  • Much as I loved Soul Mining and Infected, I never really warmed to Mind Bomb. This is a fantastic track, however. I remember shelling out quite a few squid for the video , er... video at the time. Anyone know whether a dvd version has been made ?

  • I followed that bead of sweat,

to the small of your back,

from the nape of your neck,

Lightin' it up, with every drag upon my cigarette.

  • merci !!!!!!

  • Oh, this cassette has been so warn out. Amazing.

  • Quality of the vid, that is.

  • Its a shame the qulaity is a bit jumpy!

  • this music will never die

  • OMG- THATs NENA CHERRY!!!! Holy crap!! I never knew that! wow.

  • From one of the best albums of all time. I've got the vhs series of the music videos.. THE the did it proper!

  • First time I heard The The I was hooked. Great lyrics from a underrated almost unheard of band. Saw them twice arond the Dusk era, once as a headliner, another time they opened for Depeche Mode. Unfortunately Johhny Marr did not tour with them, but they still put on a fine concert. Infected and Mind Bomb all time favorites! Thanks sophia11 for posting.

  • Hmmm.. Miss cherry all tied up! Sounds intresting, she looks a wildcat so maybe tieing her up would be less leathal than being scratched to bits by that wild pussycat! I used to have the whole album on vhs, cant find it on dvd anywhere!

  • to the small of your back from the nape of your neck

  • Under-rated band...

  • Matt Johnson-a true artist!

  • This is the rudest Thomas The Tank Engine clip I've ever seen

  • @shotgunreaper

You should see the one with Neneh Cherry and the Fat Controller getting it on....

  • Kick ass vocals and great brass!

  • another classic

  • I don't think that there are any interesting band or artists of the new generation that have the independence of style and inovation of this genre. This was a bolt out of the blue and stood alone and high in its revelation. This was excellence in exception. Iam now off to look for buffollow dance by nehna cherry. Another immeasurable icon.

  • Truly a fascinating man. I couldn't count how many times I listened to this album. Sexy voice, Matt!

  • Is that Neneh Cherry?

  • Yep - Neneh Cherry before she got famous

  • Best album of the 80's. Remember watching the full album video on channel 4 and being stunned.

  • When I first met my brother, we phoned each other in our cars, and we were both listening to the same song of the same album, this one

  • i left my ex in1996- the biggest argument was who kept Infected, Soul Mining, & Mind Bomb- the daughter came live with me

  • @dbox70 You can quite easily replace the albums though, you probably won!

  • You can get this on cd in HMV!!!! :)

  • so do i !! i totally agree with you !

  • bloody brilliant

  • Saw them live here in New Zealand back in the day, they were freaking awesome!! They opened with Sweet Bird Of Truth and as it built the stage gradually lit up more and more. Then as it reached a crescendo M.J came out of nowhere and started belting out the song!! Wowee boyo, that was a good as concert :-)

  • miles better than all the old shit today allways playing it in the car

  • takes me back a few years,awsome

  • still as stunning as the first time i heard the album

  • bloody stunning....even from France....how come artists can be so underrated......so hard to understand music

  • I just cant express how much i was into the the when i were a young lad! and the still sound so much better than most of the crap out today!

  • love neneh cherrys vocals x

  • saw the the 3 times live ....they were stunning.. most underated artist ever....

  • The The infected will always be a classic LP/cd ,matt is one of the best songsmiths of all time...thanks for posting

  • I forgot to mention, listen to that production !! on a decent stereo or headphones it is so 3D it makes the hair standup on my neck. Crisp, clean, clear

  • Infected is the defining album from the 80's, so far ahead of it's time in terms of social observation and political wit it really should be released in 2009.

It is still as relevant and pointed now as it was then. Excellent !

  • @spheripol : i agree on the INFECTED album, it has no weak point, is full of sarcasm and uptime beats. Especially the last extended versions ( i go for Sweet little bird!) cheers, Mike

  • Being a train driver, and having Neneh Cherry tied to the train tracks.

Well, I think Matt had all his childhood wishes fulfilled.

  • one of the best songwriters of the last few decades.

  • A great song off of one of the greatest albums ever

  • Couldnt agree more. One of the most underrated artists ever.

  • amen to that best pop alternative band ever

  • Sure is and watch for Sinead O'connor on track 6 I think of Mind Bomb

  • 100% right.

  • Is that Nina Cherry in the vid?

  • yeah

  • No, it's Neneh Cherry ;)

  • LOL, hahah hoho

    find him.. he's online somewhere?!?!

and ask him or view his recent blogs?

have him a game of poker, people don't seam hold back yapping on the chats during poker games, LOL

    cheers!

  • is there any truth in the rumour that matt johnson found religion and turned into an insufferable god bothering dick?

  • I always found him as an insufferable God bothering dick. I figured that by the music! But that's why I LOVE his jams!

  • i hope not.... he has always been my favorite under appreciated artist ever

  • always loved this song

  • I always though this was the scariest love song!! The intensity and desperation of the lyrics and the excuse that Matt is "just another Western Guy" a euphemism for an American male., probably. This album was recorded with an orchestra which gave the angst laden lyrics a more serious sinister surface.

Thanks for posting this video, but does the audio track jump a litle? lol, doesn't spoil a thing though......

  • how big are neneh's nipples in this video ha ha

  • One of my favorite The The songs!

  • Thanks to Nena Cherry for b/g and little else in way of career.

  • if any of you are aware of Matt's current "Save shoreditch" campaign. myself and a few of his loyal fans have decided to do everything in our power to encourage Matt to do a gig at the site to try and raise awareness for his cause. We think that with enough interest he might go for the idea. The plan is to get as much support as we can so if your interested in helping plz spread the word and join The The (and Matt johnsons) Face book and my space pages and check for further details. Mike harry

  • Always loved both the song, and the video. I particularly like that the two characters are always shown in opposition, never together, despite it being a duet. Stylishly filmed too.

  • Gotta' love 'em.

  • The The...

  • This album (INFECTED) cane at a good time. I was 18 and wanted to move beyond the bubblegum stuff! It was my first angst rock album. And it was brilliant.

This song at first sounds kinda sexy, but then gets kinda creepy! I geese he loves her so much he wants to run her over with a train? Good stuff, the whole album is solidly well written.

  • Love the song and love the video. They both look so cool. She is very pretty.

  • Great song. Silly video.

  • i'm just a midwestern guy, it's just sometimes i get so lonesome i could die.

  • i love this album,

i bought it the day i've became eighteen

  • Saw these live back in the 80's ..... flipping fantastic!!!!!

  • the first time i heard neneh....all those years ago

  • Genius song. Genius lyrics.

  • this was Neneh Cherry's introduction. She broke through later with 'Buffalo Stance'

  • thanks for uploadling these videos, they bring back many good memories., and its great to relive 6those times that still feel fresh in my memories.

  • clap clap clap !! first time ever i see this vid, brings many many great things back to surface ...

  • Looking back this was a very exciting time in music as it me aged 18 then. This wasa bolt out of the blue and capturing and exhilarating. It was short lived and unique but important at the time. Shame this type of adversity doesn't exist even with new social network music.

  • love this soooooo much how sexy is it totally underrated, still have their album fab!!!!!!!

  • Trains rushing into tunnels and a great looking girl tied down to the train line - no doubt what the video is about!! I bought the video of the album Infected when it first came out and was simply stunned by this one track (no pun intended). Until I read this post though I had no idea it was Neneh Cherry. Thanks for sharing.

  • The The, wickedly great band. I love the irony created in their pristine musical approach and their lyrics which are darkly dark, almost 'disturbing' - great contrast. Musically sophisticated, too. 'Infected' is brilliant.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

I miss Matt Johnson and The The so much...

Last thing I heard he lived in Sweden but that was a couple of years ago.

  • The best Neneh Cherry moment EVER! She hasn't come anywhere close to it during her entire career before or since. Dramatic that kills!

  • MATT JOHNSON IS GOD!

Check out the 1st song he's done in years on his website!

    He's back!?!

  • Neneh Cherry is superb in this video.

  • All the videos for "Infected" are amazing! I have not seen these in years! Thanks!

  • Yeah...There was a video for every song on the "The The" album. I remember sitting up one night in the 80's waiting for it to start on C4. It was made into a kinda movie with back to back video's. I've still got it up my loft on a tape.

My B/F particularly liked Nenah Cherry in that position...Perv!

  • i have to agree with your bf she looks hot.

  • I didn't even know there was a video to this song !

  • One of my favorite The The songs!
