Bantams are cool, I have built one that is 190cc with Suzuki mag/flywheel and Mikuni carb, you'll see it in 2011 jan/feb issue of Real Classic mag. I made an expansion chamber for it as well. goes very well indeed. And before anyone comments about Jap bikes, I love them, and have had loads, but I also like Brit bikes as well, all bikes are fun, agreed... yes...good.
Great little bikes! I had a 1958 D3 which was a 148cc machine. I sold it to a hippie in 1983 and unsurprisingly he failed to make the final payment. As the Sex Pistols say "never trust a hippie". Not bitter at all... Replaced it with a 1961 350cc B40.
Well first of all its not about how fast these old bikes can go its about just going out for a nice enjoyable ride. the reliability of the bsa bikes is brilliant not a lot can go wrong with them, except minor things. Of course the type of bike you should get depends on what size you want, i have listed engine sizes of all the bikes you have listed below.
The design for this was giving to BSA as part of war reperations ! Its actually a DKW ! Harley ,and some Italian firm made a version also !! British bikes were the best in the world for decades bur lack of investment was what killed it !! Triumph are doing great though and Norton are coming back !! In fact the Triumph Daytona 675 is the class leader ! Beating all the Jap bikes !! The new Norton Commando is awesome and the NRV rotary is totally droolworthy !!
i also like the 675, commando and nrv but the bantam wasnt the best thing in the world was it ? compaired to the the japanese bikes of the time you must admit that the classics were a pain (oil leaks) they just needed more attention but we just seemed to give up when honda released there range of bike just look at the CB92 benley (awsome bike) and still would sell today due to its beautifull looks. plus im not just slagging off the classics im a big fan of them especially the BSA goldstar DBD34!
obviously got no mechanical sympathy then?
