  • I just used his neck as an ashtray!! AWESOME!

  • Another dose of reality. Great vid as always.

  • I know what you mean by people saying something is not fair. I had one time I hit a guy in the throat, and my friend was like man that was not cool man that is not fair. I asked him was it fair that he attacked me?

  • Taichi :-)

  • For me the most important thing is to Not get my self in the situation! U know. When U train Self DEFENCE U are training to miss the attacker sneaking up on U. They are already on U grabbing and what not. Train to be aware all the time and U will find Ur self not being an easy victim. And if the shit hits the fan.....do whatever is necessary! Self Awareness & Protection

  • Hey mate

Been watching your vids for a while now.

What do you think of Krav Maga?

Im assuming you've heard of it before :P

    be safe. :)

  • (Personally) A well branded/promoted Mixed Martial Art. Not much more to say really. There's just as much politics with the 3 styles of it now. One of my students is from the Isreali Special Forces, he did it there and now he does Kapap which he says is better but now he also does Silat & Knife with me to 'fill in gaps' I personally dont like anything pre-arranged and set. We do random response & simulation training looking at all scanarios & devloping complexity.

  • The people who I have seen who are GOOD at krav maga have an extensive background in other things.. the rest wear army pants and play commando for a day. But that's not just Krav Maga doing it.. before I had alot of KM people talking shit at us, now ALOT of them do my seminars. we simply do something different as Im sure you can see ;-) I dont mean them disrespect. Im just telling you what I have seen and I have taught in 14 countries in the last 18months.. So I can safely say... Ive been around

  • I see where you're coming from.

I did a few lessons of Krav.

I admit it taught me many useful principles and the teaching was pretty legitimate and the trainer had qualifications and came directly from teaching the army.

  • The training was structured to milk you of money. Very Very repetitive and fitness activities were thrown into the hour sessions (Good, but i can do them at home)

the thing i really liked about the training though was how it modified the body's natural reactions to say, a hook punch. Into a self defense technique. and that it wasn't punching air, you actually hit your partner, fairly forcefully. and became more familiar with handling another human :)

  • I agree with force on force training. We do alot of impact absorption (conditioning) to handle serious strikes and in that we hit each other hard. But I dont like to suit up like an assault team if that's not your profession.. Also, what I was trying to say before was, I dont believe in Self Defense; I believe in self Protection! It's a different concept. It's like; If he does this then you do this. I think its all crap to be honest. Every single attack from every man is different!

  • and that's why we train drills to become skills; to deal instinctively with random attacks appropriately (depending on the situation at hand) and fluently. You see, anyone can team the army. One of the Victorian Navy Teams had a Taekwondo team who thought they were hardcore, 1 of them challenged me.. In QLD some Karate 4th & 5th Dans were teaching absolute shit to infintry and getting off on it big time! It seriously gives me the shits! Never even been in a fight, let alone had to survive!

  • You know what, you're right.

So basically, train your ass off until 'self protection' becomes as natural to you as walking?

  • That is exactly how I described it in a recent Swedish seminar.. 'Masters' make it look easy.. Why? because it is second nature! We walk and dont think 'Left, Right, Left, Right' we have done it so many times it is natural. Thats why I mentioned training drills to become skills. It is muscle memory, a natural action apposed to re-action. Pro-activism! So yes, train the shit out of whatever you like! Just have the right approach to Self Awareness & Protection :-)

  • Thanks man :)

Lemme know if you're teaching anything in Vic, would make an effort to stop by :)

    Take care.

  • I have some guys organizing & hosting a seminar of mine in the second weekend of December in Melbourne. I will post specifics soon, cheers mate ;-)

  • I have a question, does force on force training have any long term physical risks later down the road? I know runners or football players can have worn out or ligament problems due to their high impact training.

  • Depending on how you go about it possibly yes but most likely not if you're doing it supervised and correctly. I mean we all get banged up. I still got a tiff neck from being bashed 2days ago, but its part of the simulation training to get rid of that shock factor when you're all of a sudden cracked in the head. But again, I know how to look after my body with stretching it out.. My neck and head is sore cause the last 3 days have been pretty intense, thats what Im saying.

  • Rest periods, stretching, exercise, re-hab (acupuncture/massage) are necessary things, I myself and most of my guys go regularly just to saty on top and be able to cope. But yeah I mean, some will smoke 1 cigaratte and get lung cancer, I know I go in his 80's and he has drank rum and smoked every day since he's 20's and he's fit as a horse! So clearly I cannot speak for anyone. If you have a reason to do this training then you should be doing it. Preparing yourself for out on the field.

  • I have a tai chi training question. You once said that we have to be a representation of the yin yang symbol when training in tai chi. I know that a majority of tai chi requires breathing, posture, and relaxation to do it correctly. My question is, would hard type training like push ups, weight lifting, and stance development be a part of the tai chi training as well? I figure the soft nature of relaxation would have to be balanced with something hard as well.

  • This is really a great video. no your not ready I ve been attacked and few times and stalked by a man and it happens really fast one min. your looking at the radio in your and the next your being dragged out by your hair.
