You know it's interesting to compare Ministry with New Order. Both had differing sounds at the start and at the end of their careers, Ministry was synth pop and New Order was Joy Division at the beginning. Then both evolved to produce the most interesting parts of their work as Ministry introduced more metal elements and New Order introduced more dance elements to post punk. But then both bands went too far. Ministry became an indistinguishable metal band. New Order became an ordinary pop band.
thiz iz the song that introduced me to the band anna i heard it by pure accident at a house party. 25 yearz later i got mixxxes od the the mole, geeez.
Probably my favorite all time song, may not be my favorite on any given day lately, but as songs become popular in my playlist and slowly fade away, this one is always right in there.
This is one of a few songs that Chris Connelly did the vocals for and Al continues to take credit for while calling Connelly talentless and so on. I don't think Grandpa Al could have sung the lyrics with nearly as much conviction as Connelly does.
15 years old, witnessed this LIVE at '92 Lolla. The energy, the sun setting, the rain hitting, the bone-clad mic stands slowly dragged out as this bass line played for about 20 min even before they 'busted' out into lyrics, ear~piercingly loud. My 'mind' will never forget the ENERGY of their set that day. Un~fucking~real. "SO WHAT!!!"
i'm 41 and i remember what a mosh pit is and i am ready to jump in right how, and all you motherfuckers, grease up your wheelchairs and roll them right the fuck out ME, and PROGRESS!
one of the best shows i have ever seen live. I think the best. it was at the House of Blues in Vegas. This song started the pit and made my night. it was about the 3rd or 4th song into the set and the first of the older songs at the time. It was the dark side of the spoon tour.
Inspired by the great (terrible) Ed wood scripted movie "The Violent Years." The judge's speech is sampled from that movie. "So What?" is the girls anthem. It's mine as well. FANTASTIC song.
I don't think you can fully appreciate this song if you haven't killed someone just to watch them die. Don't get me wrong it is still a good song, but until you experience the rush of murder, you will never understand. For the NSA and FBIs benefit, I was just joking.
@honeyandgold Also, doesn't it say "The spirit that something is going wrong with the environment?"
"Thus parents think somethings is going...." doesn't make any sense. First time I heard Ministry 1990, I was on 2 hits of Blotter acid, smoked pot, smoked PCP, and drank a fifth. Not that the alcohol had any effect by that point, lol. Long story short, I've loved this song ever since. I was 14 then.
@veridical i was in the mosh pit at a ministry concert for 4 hours strait when i was 16, im 30 now. It was bad fucking ass!! I was thrashin thru that pit like crazy, sweat poring off of me. One of my best teenage memories.
Damn... Only 2 comments on this song? This tune brings back memories... I used to jam this song alone before I stepped into the ring. So fucking what?

Ironically, I learned where the samples for this came from via MST3K: Ed Wood's The Violent Years.

at cyclicvideo It was. In the movie "Compulsion, a fictionalized account of the Leopold Leob murder (in Chicago) which inspired this song.
the samples used in the song did not come from that movie (not a bad guess though)
