  • I was wondering about the 9/11 reference -- I never saw the original (Depeche Mode) until a few minutes ago.

  • yeaaa nice cover!

  • 1:07 Ah, Failure's signature wall of sound. The layers are many and thick, like a rich musical lasagna. This track was the first MP3 I downloaded back in the Napster days. I eventually bought the CD, and while I still think this is the best cover on it, there are some other great DM interpretations as well.

  • @Ofecks 1:07 is the best moment in the song! Like you said, the layers are many and thick, it's sounds so unique.

  • how is this a tribute to 9/11? because the original music video was on top of the wtc? the song has nothing to do with 9/11

  • @roboY2K5123 The original music video wasn't on top of the wtc, Depeche Mode just did an extra version of this song on top of that building.

  • sounds a lot like kurt cobain and nirvana. sounds great. thumbs up from me.

  • Didn't know they covered this. Thanx for sharing. Cheers!

  • Where do I download this version ?

  • vontade de chorar ... :/

  • Please, leave this tune to the originators of it---Depeche Mode. To quote the song's words, this rendition is "meaningless and forgettable".

  • @tedGEGI actually, if youd done a bit of research, the singer from depeche mode stated that he actually preferred this version to the original

  • At first, I thought this was going to be another crappy cover. However, once the guitars came in, I quickly changed my mind. It's great and justly pays homage to the original.

  • This is gorgeous.

  • I hadn't heard a single note by this band prior to today and I find myself sitting here on the verge of tears because they disbanded after only, what, 4 albums? 5? This eviscerates Lacuna Coil's version, and I liked that version. Still, A Perfect Circle's "Diary of a Madman/Love Song" cover is probably the best cover ever. Or maybe Tool's "No Quarter"...

  • Beautiful and haunting. T_T

  • The bassist from depeche mode has said on record that he prefers this version to the original enjoy the silence. oh my god failure rocks

  • Excellent.

  • best version!!!

  • What a great cover of this song...I'm a sucker for huge guitars, though, and I was blown away when I heard this for the first time. I remember the original version, and I remember really disliking it. Ironically, after hearing this, I can listen to the Depeche Mode version and kind of dig it.

  • failure is an amazing band! I have all three of their albums and including ken andrews side project (on),my fave album is fantastic planet, truly the most underrated album of the 90's

  • this is a fckng awesome cover!!!!

  • Good cover - but not in any way representative of Failure

  • HOLY SHIT!!!! Ive been a Ginormous Fan Of Ken Andrews since On, I have had this Depeche Mode cover Compilation album since the late 90's and NEVER until now knew this was him!!! Massive DUH!!!!!!

  • I like this cover but i still like Anberlin's cover better.

  • @MusicIsAPassion19 i actually went and searched that out.....each to their own, i feel officially gay after hearing anberlin, but they are talented i'll give them that....just not my thing i suppose

  • This reminds me of the comic book series, "Crossed".

  • NO ME CABE AUNQUE SUENA POWER

  • The bass line is catchy.

  • what album is this off?

never knew failure to sound like this

i only have the album 'magnified'

  • @IAINoodle

    Catalog#: 540 919-2

    &

  • failure is just so wrong in any context here,,,

  • its sounds good, why is this failure?

  • @pardavesiela ..."failure" is the name of the band, i post this one, because i find it better than the "lacuna coil" version....

  • @DarkSirAT So do i :)

  • @pardavesiela to fool the fools

  • I gotta ask -- What in the world does this song (a cover by a band that broke up 4 years before 9/11, of a song written by a British band) have to do with 9/11? It bums me out when I see images of the WTC. I don't get it

  • @weholdourown

In 1990 DM shot an alternative music video for "Enjoy The Silence" which had them lip-syncing on top of the WTC south tower.

  • @UncleSamFisher

Just caught that video. Kind of hard to watch, them being up so high. I get the connection now. I just thought "Wow this song is kind of dark. Tribute to the victims? Enjoy the silence?" I guess I get it now

  • So good, thank you!

  • do the same video with the original music

  • This cover genuinely shocked me. It's really really good. Love this one and Lacuna Coil's cover.

  • Was it just coincidence that the attack was on 9/11?? In US isn't 911 the number to call for emergencies?

  • @UnamedKing

No, they probably planned it that way.

  • @UnamedKing Really... It's maybe not a simple coincidence... there are many subliminal messages around USA (and in the world), mainly Hollywood movies and so on...

  • nice tribute, and Failure did a good job with this cover.

Message to Americans,.. dont let evil MotherF*ckers destroy what we have built here.

    enjoy the silence

  • good cover, depeche mode much better of course, but still pretty damn good!

  • Now THIS is a decent cover for such a great theme from a legendary band like DM.

  • @CuuijqyMuruqdte Means even more when you've seen the Depeche Mode Music video on the roof of the twin towers

  • Were you raging against Saddam when he butchered Kurd women, men and children? Very doubtful. Did you express outrage against the Serbs when they raped Sarajevo? Do you mourn for all the dead in Tibet? And why don't you pick up a guitar and do a better cover? What? No talent? Already knew as much.

  • lol, Saddam? Serbs? Tibet? what has that got to do with Afgahn terroists attacking the US years ago. and i wouldnt do a cover of this song because its pish, was linked to it by a mate cos its was crap

    go eat your orange

  • What did your original comment have to do with Afghan terrorists attacking us? If the Iraqis want memorial videos posted about their dead, let them do it themselves.

And it amazes me how the untalented always slam the talented. At least this band TRIED, unlike having never tried and only cired about others work.

And I have an orange for you.

  • Hmm... Failure was/is an awesome band. I saw them live July 29th 1997 at Lalapalooza in KC. They replaced Korn on the first stage because Munky was deathly ill. Love Failure. That being said, this cover is terrible. It lost any power that the original song had. It is like Failure had ADD and went 4 different directions with this song. Love the band. Hate the cover.

  • At 1:36, the lead is singing completely off key. You might notice this if we could hear the vocal track alone. Instead, the band distracts by throwing everything and the kitchen sink (distortion) at the accompanying melody. Just listen to the timely grunge guitar solo at 2:16.

FYI, Fletcher was just being magnanimous because this song was on a DM TRIBUTE ALBUM. There's also the possibility that he liked this version for making a much more powerful argument for enjoying the silence.

  • The funny part is several aficionados in each comment section declared his or her band's version better than the original. For a reality check, I gave most of the groups an honest evaluation. For all I know, Failure may be the greatest band on earth, but they do a sucky rendition of ETS. It's you who needs your hearing checked. Admittedly, the vocals start out okay, but the train leaves the track between :50 and 1:00. Almost on cue, the band by massacring the instrumental.

  • Aptly named band, especially when covering this DM classic. The lead singer does okay for a Tuesday night karaoke contest. I can also see how you might like this version if your tone deaf, related to a member of the band, and/or have never heard the DM original.

  • You sound like one of those Allmusic guide reviewers.

Please don't be a dick. I get it, you love Depeche Mode and your jaded by them. That's fine, but taking into account that even Andrew Fletcher himself stated that he preferred Failure's version over Depeche mode's own goes to show that Failure is not just simply a "Tuesday night karaoke contest". I'm also sorry that my opinion offended you and your ability to pick up tone quality.

  • Don't be a spoon fed pablum sucker. Your completely wrong with your evaluation of me. I'm not 'jaded' by Depeche Mode's version of ETS. In fact, I haven' heard it in years. On an unrelated music search, I noticed how many bands covered this song. Sadly, many of them including dismal Failure didn't have a front man nor woman capable of doing the song justice. Out of the 15 cover videos that I viewed only 3 groups did a decent job of covering the song. Failure was among the worst.

  • Dismal Failure? That's funny since their albums garnered critical acclaim and a devout following, but that's your opinion. If your comparing vocals to the original song and trying to find something that will do it justice, your essentially comparing Depeche Mode to whatever band is covering them and you seemly despise most of the vocal covers, I hate to say but that still comes off as pretty damn jaded, especially since DM, Andrew Fletcher in particular, prefer Failure's version over their own.

  • I'm not judging Failure's 3 albums based on this one cover song for a DM tribute album. My comments only pertain to this DM cover. Accordingly, I referred to them as 'dismal' Failure for this cover alone. As I stated in an earlier post, I heard 3 covers of ETS that I enjoyed. Not one of the three sounded anything like DM's original version of ETS.

From what I've seen on your channel, you have decent taste in music. Don't take my critique as an attack on Failure in general.

  • Failure never ceases to amaze me. This sounds better than the original as well as any other cover of the song. Please don't take that as any offense and I still personally love Depeche mode it's just that Failure did song wonders.

  • Best cover of Enjoy the Silence.

  • @MPG350 totally agree, the best cover. though still far from the original, it is the only cover that does not kill off the feeling of the song, plus they sound good. i heard some emo and metal versions... dammit how do they want me to enjoy the silence with their crappy noise!! i like how the vocals on this one are soft and don't come crahing into my little world :D

  • Dam good cover. Miss the WTC version... but great job just the same. I worked at the North Tower for 2 years as a Transmitter Engineer.. knew 5 people that were unlucky enough to be there on that faithfull day....

  • I must admit, DM is my favorite band of all times, but it's a pretty good cover !

  • DM?? dave mathews?

  • No ! Simply the greatest electro band in the world... DEPECHE MODE !!!

  • not bad

  • I love this song because it can sound so happy and yet so sad at the same time... I know that sounds cliched, but it is so conflicting and beautiful.

  • When I first saw the youtube with Depeche Mode singing this song on the roof of the twin towers, I loved this song even more then I already did. Failure did an incredible job with Enjoy the Silence. The slide show pulls at my heart strings.

    ~J~

  • ...thanks for your words...and i agree with you...meanwhile the mode / twin towers video is deleted from youtube...this day changes our whole life,no question...with this pictures i´ll pay my tribute to the victims & their relatives..

  • It is the perfect cover of this song others don't come close.

  • this is really good, i love it

  • i agree, finally i found it ,is the best perfomance of Enjoy the Silence that i've heard

  • This cover sounds fucking awesome ! I think that is best depeche mode cover

  • Finally found it! Thank you for uploading. I'm surprised there aren't more of this track on Youtube.

  • All hail Failure!

  • what a perfect cover...

    It is on:

For The Masses: A Tribute To Depeche Mode

  • Great cover, best yet. And a great slide show.

  • the best cover. lacuna's version.. two people are singing. ridiculous.

  • I thought Lacuna Coil did the best cover of this song...then I heard this. =)

  • Easily the best cover...
