Here's the story: There were cameras on Ritchie's side and Jon's side. But Ritchie's didn't like the cameraman on his side so he waited in his dressing room until the cameraman left his side, that's why Ritchie is late. He also didn't like the camera on the other side so he threw water at it to get away. As stated in the interviews, the and members weren't happy about this.

I was at this gig. Blackmore just came on stage to play the solos and seemed real pissed off with Gillan for some reason (chased him across the stage at one point). The heroes were Gillan and the rest of the band (Lord was fantastic), I thought at the time that Blackmore should remember who was paying him to be there - the audience, and the stuck up twat owed us all by the end of the evening. Ritchie may or may not be any of the things described here but you can be assured that without his songwriting talents Deep Purple would not have made their mark in rock history at such a grand level as they have. Till he finished, Gillan and co. were up to end of second part. But one of the camerist was still there. When Blackmore spotted him, he splashed the camera, which is recorded. Notice, that there is no more camview from Lord's back, when "the evening goes on".
A friend of mine saw DP in the 70's. Blackmore decided, for whatever reason, that he would not play lead the entire concert. He just strummed and made mean faces towards the crowd. I love his guitar playing, but somethinhg like that deserves an ass whippin'. As a matter of fact, he needs a beating for throwing the drink in this video. What a little bitch!!!

Blackmore also said in a magazine Eddie was technically brilliant as a guitarist but didn't play with any emotion which didn't sit too well with him (VH)

I am biased because I'm a fan but Ritchie was provoked to a certain extent. He stipulated no cameras at his side of the stage and they agreed but did anyway. They were bound to know what sort of a reaction he would give by then.

@Frazzo :) He was backstage in his own room till 3 hours before the concert and also didn't came out when the others wanted to start the gig. The rest of the band hoped Ritchie would come on stage when he hears them playing. They started the first time - Ritchie didn't came :) They interrupted the show and started a second time. So this vid is the 2nd.
Blackmore is a good guitarist and songwriter, and a very strict (and sometimes somewhat... egoistic) professional. He fancies himself as a kind of "god" sometimes, which he certainly isn´t. But perhaps some guys need the steady glorification in order for their spirit to start generating any kind of artistic product, be it music or anything else too. And I am only glad he did write so great songs.

Steve Morse does lot's of guitar pyrotechnics but Ritchie does those arpeggios in the lead....they are signature..songs not the same with out them. However he sucks in this recording.

Where is Blackmore? at 3:01 appears like he was the star and the rest of the band is his band. Blackmore is a good guitar player but no like others Eddie Van Halen and Ritchie Blackmore where both men were at a public function and Eddie went over to Blackmore and attempted to shake his hand to which Ritchie snubbed him and walked away. Blackmore also said in a magazine Eddie was technically brilliant as a guitarist but didn't play with any emotion which didn't sit too well with him (VH)

I am biased because I'm a fan but Ritchie was provoked to a certain extent. He stipulated no cameras at his side of the stage and they agreed but did anyway. They were bound to know what sort of a reaction he would give by then.

He really is an odd sort of bloke old Ritchie, the sort of bloke that if you were near him you would not know whether to run away from him or laugh at his antics; be that as it may he is an amazing guitarist, shame we never see him play anymore.

@Frazzo :) He was backstage in his own room till 3 hours before the concert and also didn't came out when the others wanted to start the gig. The rest of the band hoped Ritchie would come on stage when he hears them playing. They started the first time - Ritchie didn't came :) They interrupted the show and started a second time. So this vid is the 2nd.

Blackmore is a good guitarist and songwriter, and a very strict (and sometimes somewhat... egoistic) professional. He fancies himself as a kind of "god" sometimes, which he certainly isn´t. But perhaps some guys need the steady glorification in order for their spirit to start generating any kind of artistic product, be it music or anything else too. And I am only glad he did write so great songs.

Steve Morse does lot's of guitar pyrotechnics but Ritchie does those arpeggios in the lead....they are signature..songs not the same with out them. However he sucks in this recording.
