I own a franking machine tag from ww2 that says" Kommando des Kreuzers "Lutzow"" z. zt Danzgier Werft 1407114 Danzig, could this be related to the lutzow battles ship ?

Great video, very thoughtful to put English titles as well as German thank you. These were great ships, economical and with a long range, much more practical than other German heavy ships. Never used to potential as their commanders were handicapped by stupid orders from the top. Russians raised her after the war, they hoped to refit her but she was to damaged so they sank her along with Graf Zepplin in weapons tests.

The Panzerships were commerce raiders,

they could sink solitary merchant ships,

and that was all.

@agwhitaker Not sure you are refering to that they were only ordered to engage Merchant ships, or you imply that they could not take on other warships? The Pocket Battleship or (Heavy Cruiser) could take on any Cruiser or lesser with no problems.. the 11" guns of the BC were more lethal then that of the British Cruisers. For what she was designed to do, she could do very well, and even cornered and outnumbered 3-1 Graf Spee did a remarkable job at defending herself.

@JuergenGDB You are rigth. Commerce raiders were the auxiliary cruiser. The deutschland class could fight with cruiser or destoryers or even battlecruisers with no problem. thats my opinion. :)

Einfach schade, das kein einziges dieser Schiffe den Krieg überlebt hat. Wenigstens den Prinz Eugen hätte man Deutschland als Museumsschiff zurückgeben können.
