Millimetric wave seeker successfully flight-tested in Nag. The mmW seeker was designed and developed by scientists at Research Centre Imarat (RCI), one of the key laboratories of the DRDO's missile complex. This would provide solutions for applications in surface-to-air missiles, air-to-air missiles, anti-tank missiles and air-to-surface missiles. It would also provide the technology base for changing to dual-mode seeker in future.

@ramasubur Nag is not Man portable. Javelin is a man portable missile. Obviously, we need a mixture of weapons which can be used during different situations.

While the infrared seekers of the Javelin and the Spike can be jammed, the Nags optical guidance system makes it virtually jam-proof. The indigenous development of an imaging seeker, a highly complex and closely guarded technology, is the Nags greatest triumph.

The plume of burning propellant from the tail of most missiles gives away its flight path and allows the target to get behind cover. The Nag, in contrast, is visible only during the first one second of flight, when the missiles booster imparts 90% of the momentum; after that, a sustainer maintains the missiles speed, burning a smokeless propellant that is practically invisible.

Ground launched NAG ATGMs have been already ordered. 443 missiles and 13 launchers. One more trial is needed for NAG ATGM for more orders.

Air launched version also called as Helina, with 7 km range would be test fired very soon.

According to a senior army officer, Nag is the worlds deadliest anti-tank guided missile (ATGM).

Nag missile operators search for enemy tanks through thermal imaging telescopes, which see as well by night as they do by day. Picking up a tank, the operator locks the Nags seeker onto the target. A digital snapshot of the target is automatically taken, which serves as a reference image. As the Nag streaks towards the target, at 230 metres per second, the seeker takes repeated snapshots of the target.

each one is compared with the reference image, and deviations are translated through on-board algorithms into corrections to the Nags control fins, which steer the missile precisely at the target.

In the pipeline is an even more sophisticated method —- lock-on after launch or LOAL —- for the helicopter-mounted Nag, or HELINA, which can target a tank 7 kilometres away.

Since the target will seldom be visible at such a distance, the missile operator launches the HELINA in As it flies towards the target, the Nags seeker downlinks to the missile operator images of the area ahead; after travelling 3-4 kilometres, general direction of the target.

i dont think u should compare the javelin with the NAG...javelin is much more heavier..plus it requires a crew of 2 to perform the attack..whereas the nag has its own special carrier ..namica..and the range of javelin is max 2.5 km..whereas nag has a max ability of 7km...this missile cant be tracked..the ONLY nation in the world to have thic tech...and what more..the speed of nag is an amazing 230m/s...mate..the chinkis and the pakis are gonna have a tough time protectin their useless tin cans.

I have a question regarding any guided anti tank missile. Suppose there are 10 tanks moving all together. One of them is hit by the anti tank guided missile (Nag). If the second Nag is fired, how it will know not to hit the already destroyed target. The destroyed target is also a piece of metal and radiating more heat. If it can not distinguish, then probability of success of forthcoming NAG decreases with every successful hit.

The software coding is done in such a way that it detects and homes in only a particular frequency and intensity. A burning tank (That too hit a instant ago) would have a very different IR profile. Ofcourse there is always a slight possibility of error. Tats y DRDO is replacing it with mmw seeker.

Why would you want a stealth missile?

Missiles are generally very hard to shoot down,

and this one only has a range of up to 7 clicks... it's probably high subsonic, meaning it's only in flight for less than a minute...

Enough time to detect it with radar, but not to do anything about it... besides, it's radar sig is probably tiny

This missile has hard protection ,it can't be easily tracked by satellite and radars plus this has anti-jamer protection , so its nearly impossible to jam the electronics of this missile. This missiles incorporate new missile technologies that IISc had invented this year , its a hypersonic missile. Only india has this tech now. NASA is also researching for this tech. it has some stealth features, but not fully stealth. Intercepting this is impossible coz of speed. MACH 6

This anti-tank missile doesn't give any warning and has anti jamer protection. Stealth missiles are the future. Think about Stealth BVR and Steath cruise missiles. Stealth missiles will be lethal if developed.

Indian Military is heading towards creating a lean but mean force. India is already working on setting up an Aero-space command. It is important for Network centric warfare. India is also working on KALI (Kilo Ampere Linear Injector). Most likely,it will get integrated with Ballistic missile defence program. It would be able to destroy ballistic missiles way before terminal phase to protect our satellites. Nobody wants to fight like world war I and II style warfares, maybe china does.

Looks like India is ready for the future !! Future Combat vehicles with Self guided missiles are a Killer alternative to fatass tanks. Tanks will be around for keeping an eye on the population after the war. Killer role will be given to guided missiles like NAG during the war.
