Why does everyone go on about feeling sorry for the youth of today when they hear fantastic old songs like this? There was plenty of rubbish around in them days as well( showaddywaddy anyone)as there are lots of class songs about at the moment (Ed Sheeran).
I love the song, makes me nostalgic for the seventies! Great times and great music! (P.S. I can't help wondering why they're dancing in their shorts! LOL!)
@MrBoilonthearse totally agree with ya mate, this is real tallent unlike some today.went to see her at the Brighton centre uk in early 80s,fantastic performance.tried and tested with hit after hit.she is so beautiful too.
wat a great soul voice , wat a lady - brilliant song pity we dont have classics like this in the charts only trash from ga ga rhianna beiber beyonce and all the rest who use autocue, autotuning and cheap publicity to sell themselves. at least we have rumer, annie lennox, mary black, sade and julia fordham flying the flag foe true soul music
This song brings back so many memories ,it really told my story of a relationship I had with my boyfreind , I gave him this song , Well it certainly did the trick next year we shall be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary Thank's Gladys xx
The Stylistics performed the original version of this song in 1976 on the "Fabulous" album. George Michael and recently The M People recorded their own versions of this song. No matter how many times this song was covered, it sounds great :)
Yeah I was 15 when this came out ,takes me back ,god I wish I was 15 again lol the numbers are reversed now tho gawd . Oh happy days. midnight train was another fab song. they just don't make them like that anymore and that's a fact
A big hit for Gladys and her Pips, written by the late great Van Mccoy. Superb lyrics classic tune "my love is genuine - baby don't change your mind!"
I am in the Kirkstile Inn in Northumberland, UK and I am celebrating my 40th birthday by walking the Pennine Way long distance footpath over 15 days - all of 270 miles. It is lashing down with rain and I have blisters and sore shoulders from the rucksack and I put Gladys and the Pips on the juke box, buy a brandy, and suddenly Hadrian's Wall up ahead doesn't present any problems.
Great song by Gladys and the Pips....but you ought hear "The Stylistics" do it (1976 the album is "Fabulous".....I'd say they did it first. Written by Van McCoy, who had a pretty good ear for that disco sound. And believe me guys...there ain't a bigger Gladys Knight fan than me. Both do a great job on a great song.
I can't express with words the impact this song has on me. The molody and arrangament are excellent and Gladys sings with such ease, almost effortless.
Wow! What a find here! Great footage of Gladys and the Pips! This song was from one of the finest albums the group ever recorded -- "Still Together," released in 1977. The album never got quite the promotion it deserved. Thanks for sharing.
This is the only promo film I've ever seen of a Van McCoy produced song. He recorded this song with The Stylistics a year earlier. He liked to redo songs with his various artists, I guess to see if it became a hit, plus I'm guessing the royalties didn't hurt either. :) Too bad he wouldn't be able to enjoy them, since he would pass away a couple of years after recording this record.
heard this on the radio today and had forgotten all about it. Looked up Youtube and there is was....thanx for posting. It brings back a lot of memories of that time
A true classic written by the late Van McCoy. Fine lyrics and wonderful sound: great fun to see the Pips practising their dance routines! Saw Gladys & her bros in concert.
I love this song and always have, the only part i don't like it 2.43 onwards as it goes from a funkie song into spoken words. It's a shame they didn't keep the tempo up.
81 thousand odd hits for the best of the empress of soul; should be 81 million, wake up out there.

Wow! What a gem of a find here! This song was minor hit from one of the finest albums Gladys and the Pips ever recorded. Remember "Still Together?"
I'll say, all that dancing must have kept the Pips in top shape back then -- especially Bubba. He had absolutely no body fat!
What great memories. I was 14 when this album was released, and I received it as a gift, upon graduating from 9th grade. I wore this album out!
I miss Gladys Knight AND the Pips!
