nataliaandnick14: Way off there. Hercules opened in 1989 as the tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the world. But, the ride became incredibly hard to maintain (especially the lake turn) and was expensive to keep up. So, they completely redesigned the lake turn a couple of times, and put brakes at the top of the drop to lessen the wear and tear. By the 2000's, so few people were riding it (because it was rough and slow) and it was so expensive to maintain, it wasn't worth it anymore.

Also, El Toro came three years after Hercules was torn down. And it never held the record for tallest or fastest wooden coaster (although it got close, and it is one of the best wooden coasters on the planet.)  Son of Beast at Kings Island near Cincinatti has held that record since 2001 - 218 feet tall and 78 mph.

i believe they tore this down instead of thunderhawk because this no longer had any special appeal. the attraction of this was it was the tallest wooden coaster in the east coast but then el toro came along. For thunderhawk it was built over seventy five years ago so i assume dorney thought that had more appeal to ride a ride that old.

hercules was the first rollercoaster i went on.  i wish they never tore it down. the drop was breathtakeing.

The thing in don't get is, why would folk built a ride named after a greek hero first, then tare it down and build a enemy ride thats made of steel?

I thought it was suppost to be the enemy first then the hero, not the other way round! Its just as bad as building a ride called purseus first, then building a ride called kraken: the revenge.
