  • Metro North does have trains such as the push pull Shoreliner coaches and cab cars, M3, and M7 that depend on underrunning third rail, M2, M4, M6, and M8 that depend on underrunning third rail and or catenary, GE P32ac-dm that depends on underrunning third rail and once it's out of third rail territory, it depends on diesel, and then there is the Bl20-GH which is a low emissions diesel locomotive. The M8 is also compatible with overrunning third rail which is what is used on the LIRR.
